Beautiful artwork, fun gameplay and precise controls. If you enjoy platformers like Super Meat Boy or VVVVVV, then you're gonna also love this one.
(played with Xbox controller) As somebody who has played Celeste, I can tell that this was definitely inspired by it. This game has, for the most part, tight controls. The game's tutorials on every one of your moves makes you feel as though you're learning the game, and if you mess up, it's your fault as the player. Until it comes to the dashing and ledge grabbing. For the dash, it has a charge when you hold the button down, so it didn't sit right when I dashed to the next platform. Plus the dash is too quick and you can never readjust your eyes properly in time to see where you're ending up. Most of the time, I just hoped I dashed the right amount to get to the next platform. If I died, I don't know what I died from, I got frustrated because I didn't know for how long I had to charge my dash for, because I'd be in different positions when I dashed. Also when you dash, I noticed in some rooms, you fall slower than you jump, making it very difficult to line up some of the moving platform jumps. For the ledge grabbing, there were multiple times where I rubbed up against some ledge while I was holding the ledge grab button and it would fail to grab on. It was upsetting to see my player not respond to my command. Going on to the game play, it was very clenching in some of the rooms, but then in others it was just frustrating. I liked the progressive things to do in each room, like the blue platform, the rising platforms, and the blue orb, but I felt rushed into it. Being blinded by what laid ahead, so I'd die and it didn't feel like it was my fault, because I didn't know what was about to happen. With one example, you are introduced to the "rising" platforms in a room. They rose when I grabbed onto them. Well, a few rooms later, I grabbed onto one of those "rising" platforms, and it fell. I died in that instance. And I didn't feel like I should have died there because I was expecting the platform to go UP. There was no indication of it going down... There are other instances like that in the prologue. A simple solution would be putting more indicators and letting the player play with the new tech in a safe room. That way they know what they're getting themselves into. This game, despite its little flaws, held my attention until the end. I don't know if I'll buy the full game though. I suppose if I were to buy a game like this, I'd spend it on Celeste. But this is a strong 7/10. The stories wack, but I didn't even watch the cut scenes. Some boy and his sock? Idk.

I wasn't liking it at first. I found the setting and story weird, not a fan of the way the kid character portrait looks, and the jump arc felt a little too floaty. After getting used to the jump arc a bit more and the game adding more mechanisms, I definitely started enjoying myself a lot more. I'll be adding the game to my wishlist. My one gripe is the directional dashing. To dash up, you have to press up and dash. I'm not 100% positive, but it seemed like if you didn't hold up long enough, a side dash would come out instead. I had a number of times where I tried to up dash and got a side dash instead even though I'm pretty sure I pressed up. I'm thinking some leniency may need to be added to the input timing. Not sure if the full game is going to blow anyone's socks off (haha get it?), but it seems like it's shaping up to be a decent precision platformer.
So at first, the game didnt really stood out as something special for my first and second playthough, but once i started the dark side the game really grew on me. I really liked the difficutly and challenge the dark side provided, and the level were flowing really well Some other negative review critics the difficulty, but everything wasnt that hard. took me 30 min to get all 210 coins and finish the normal world, and took me 20 min for the dark world but no coins since there is none. This game also released after celeste so its gonna be compared a lots i think, but it still bring a different experience imo
♥♥♥♥
A super-sweet and hard as nails platformer. The controls are tight and work just as you'd expect. The visuals are bright and clear, you know what's going to kill you and what's safe straight away, no confusion with the backgrounds either. The coins show a clear path with extras thrown in to stretch your skills. I've not played platformers in years but this game brought back the joy.
