This Game Is Fun/Boring. I Havent Played It A While Because It Got Boring.
Want to play football then find a ball and go to the fresh air, ok wait, i mean download Fifa or how EA now call that crap, but if you want a stress free game with a story about evil corp banned football and where you start your way from underground arenas without rules (or maybe that was a simple school stadium :) and climbing to the top, then this was a pretty good game to play, Almost all negative reviews talking about bugs, but i don't know maybe devs just fix them already, because i finished the game in few days (yeah after i got it on sale with -90% off) and did not catch any gamebreaking bugs, only one time when hero was fishing the game stop responding, so was forced to end the task and restart it, Also game is not difficult as you can choose easy level and if you don't have two left hands its not hard to finish it under 15hours, you still can return to collect medals from challenges if you want. Looking at only 54% positive reviews for this game and 98% of any random garbage what everyone now playing i think that steam ratings is useless or i simply don't understand those Fortnite and Tiktok modern generation. Interesting who playing single player games in 2025 anyway?! as it must be pure coop where you can shout in microphone on your teammates and also neighbors to instruct them how all those 10 idiots should kill that one poor boss who even don't understand what is happening on the screen while everyone shooting, casting spells and jumping around him.
Soccer Story, developed by PanicBarn and published by No More Robots, delivers a unique and often whimsical experience that straddles the line between a sports game and a role-playing adventure. At first glance, it might seem like a quirky soccer title, but it's much more than that. The game opens with an offbeat premise: soccer has been banned following a mysterious global event known only as “The Calamity.” With the sport outlawed and the world under the iron grip of Soccer Inc., a magical ball quite literally crashes into your character’s life, kickstarting a journey to bring the beautiful game back to the people. This setup lays the foundation for a world filled with humor, satire, and an imaginative take on both sports and storytelling. The core gameplay of Soccer Story involves exploring an open world divided into several themed regions, each filled with strange characters, odd puzzles, and plenty of fetch quests. Whether you're kicking your magic ball at targets, solving riddles, or completing mini-games, the emphasis is clearly on variety rather than simulation. This isn't a game about mastering precise mechanics; it’s about using soccer as a tool to engage with the world around you. There’s an ever-present sense of light-heartedness, from helping pandas train for soccer tournaments to scoring goals against sharks. The mechanics are easy to grasp, with a single-button control scheme for passing, shooting, and tackling, making it accessible for players of all skill levels. However, the simplicity may also be a drawback for those looking for depth in the actual soccer matches. Matches themselves are scattered throughout the game and play more like arcade-style soccer than a traditional simulation. Teams are small, usually four players per side, and the pace is fast and chaotic. There’s fun to be had, especially in how absurd some opponents and arenas can be, but the mechanics feel shallow. Goalkeepers are unreliable, the AI can be inconsistent, and player movement is somewhat floaty. Despite these issues, the matches serve more as punctuation marks in your journey rather than the main event. They don’t overstay their welcome but don’t necessarily evolve either, which can make later matches feel repetitive. Where Soccer Story truly shines is in its charm and personality. The world is vibrant, brimming with color, and packed with oddball humor. Each region you visit has its own identity—be it desert canyons filled with monks or a bustling metropolis under strict soccer prohibition. The characters you meet are just as memorable, offering quirky dialogue and strange requests that give the game its distinct flavor. The writing leans heavily into comedy and satire, poking fun at sports culture, bureaucracy, and corporate overreach. There's a surprising amount of social commentary wrapped in all the silliness, and the tone remains consistent throughout the adventure. Visually, the game employs a retro-inspired pixel art style with 3D environments, offering a charming and nostalgic aesthetic. It’s both colorful and functional, with enough detail to make each location feel alive. The soundtrack complements the setting with upbeat, playful tunes that underscore the game’s tone without becoming overbearing. On the technical side, the game runs smoothly on most platforms, though the Switch version has suffered from occasional performance hiccups, including stuttering and minor bugs. While patches have addressed some of these issues, they may still impact the overall experience for some players. Soccer Story is not without flaws. While its world is rich in charm and exploration, some quests can feel like filler—standard fetch quests or repetitive puzzle-solving that don’t always build toward something meaningful. The soccer mechanics, though serviceable, lack the finesse or skill ceiling that might keep players coming back for more intense matches. As a result, the game sits in an odd middle ground: too casual for hardcore sports fans and perhaps too sports-focused for those solely looking for an RPG. Yet, despite this, it finds its audience in players who appreciate games with heart, humor, and creativity. In the end, Soccer Story is a delightful, if uneven, experience. It doesn’t aim to compete with sports simulation giants but instead offers a fresh and imaginative take on what a soccer-themed game can be. It thrives on its narrative quirkiness, world-building, and the sheer joy of kicking a ball through an open-ended, absurd world. If you're looking for a game that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still delivers an engaging and memorable adventure, Soccer Story is a worthwhile journey—even if the matches themselves aren’t always the main attraction. Rating: 5/10
Way too many game breaking bugs to enjoy. I like the concept and the wholesome storyline, but I seemed to play the same bit over and over as I keep encountering bugs that can't be overcome other than closing and reloading from the last save. After trying the same storyline challenge about 40 times, that was it. It wasn't fixed in the last update, and it probably never will be after I reported it in the forum but it hasn't been addressed in 3 years. Such a shame. It had potential.
