There is a lot about this game that I enjoyed. However, I ran across multiple issues while playing this game and that is the reason for my score. However, there was an update to the game while I was near the end, so that may have fixed some of the issues. Even after the update though, I still fell off the map (and died) several times. Snow Scout is a narrative-driven game. It's very reminiscent of Firewatch, because you're also using a walkie / talkie to communicate with a female protagonist, Veronica aka Vreni. Vreni is easily the highlight of this game. She's very likeable, wholesome, and I dare say it's almost impossible to play this game until completion and not get at least a little crush on her. She's just always so upbeat & well, she's your only voice during the vast majority of the game. The voice actress who did her character did an amazing job. It's also well-written so it comes off as genuine and not corny dialogue. Besides the narrative, the core of this game is skiing. In a way, this game is subversive of the walking simulator genre. Most walking simulators are chill and relaxing. This one is physically demanding. You have to ski around the ski resort by using a ski motion, so you'll be swinging your arms a lot in this game, across seemingly vast distances, up steep inclines, and down thrilling ski slopes. The core gameplay includes opening up the different ski resort areas as a volunteer (who has taken a vow of silence) and trying out the cross country and down-hill courses. You also have a ton of side activities, including chopping wood, digging through snow, picking up trash, taking photos of songbirds, or whatever Vreni asks you to do. Game is running on the Unity Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting mostly 90 fps. I did experience several issues, although the most recent update may have fixed the issues I faced. Like I said, you're using a ski motion to propel yourself around on skis and turning your wrists to turn. You can play seated or standing (you can adjust height & ski pole length). While walking (slowly), you have snap or smooth turning available. There is a comfort vignette option. Sadly, there are no graphical settings. The game auto-saves for you. Several of the VR interactions were either very basic or rough around the edges. The game took me about 6 hours to complete. However, I faced multiple issues which extended my playtime. I would estimate this game would take most people 4 hours if your'e trying to complete most of the side activities (or 6-7 if you want to 100%). Maybe 3 hours if you skip most of the side activities. You can probably speed run this in 2 hours or less if you know exactly what you're doing. [b]Rate 6.5/10. I got my money's worth. Snow Scout is early access right now but shows a lot of promise to being something really great the story of the game is that you play a person who has taken to working the ski hills to escape his personal issues, on your journey you are guided by another snow scout by the name of Vreni who talks to you over the radio, there is where the bulk of the narrative is told and so far its an interesting story while playing I though it drew a lot of comparisons to Firewatch the writing for this character is fun and feels like a character with some good depth. dialogue at the moment can be quite buggy as performing actions too quickly can cut off or skip instructions. The gameplay at the moment is simple but enjoyable in a chill sort of way, and it's all physics-driven, the main gameplay mechanic is skiing it takes s bit to get the hang of and can be a bit tricky but in the more open areas is fun when you can get up to speed. in addition, there are also other little activities like Snow shovelling, woodchopping and the most exciting avalanche clearing. The other draw to the game for me was the environments they are simple graphically but the original look and cohesive feel lead to a really nice and calming atmosphere in the game. during the game, I have encountered quite a few bugs but so far the developers are quick to respond and address feedback and are actively working on improving it. I recommend the game with the caveat that it is very early access at the moment and not quite a polished game yet. I will update my review as game developers more.

Brrr, ist das kalt … Was gibt es da besseres, als sich in den Schneeanzug zu stopfen, die Schneelatten unterschnallen und los geht’s. Tunermaxx Media hat mit Snow Scout diese Idee in ein kleines Jobabenteuer in den verschneiten Alpen verwandelt. Wir sind ein namenloser Typ, der sich eine Auszeit gönnt und zu allem Überfluss zusätzlich ein Schweigegelübde abgelegt hat. Die beste Möglichkeit für uns bestand wohl darin, dass wir uns bei den Snow Scout gemeldet haben und eine Woche Scoutarbeit in den Bergen gebucht haben. Ein Schweigegelübde bedeutet aber leider nicht, dass andere nicht mit uns reden dürfen. So begleitet uns Veronica, genannt Vreni, per Walkie-Talkie die Woche über und sabbelt uns die Ohren voll. Leider verwechselt sie dabei immer wieder ihre Landessprache mit Englisch. Ein kleiner Bug der schon längst hätte behoben sein sollen. Versteht man Englisch, ist das nicht weiter schlimm, Vreni liebt Anglizismen ungemein. Sie schreibt dann sogar auf englisch in den Chatlog auf unserm Tablett. Von wegen Digital Detox, nicht war Vreni? Neben der Einführung in unser Arbeit, hat die lustige Quasselstripe noch einige Tipps und viele Geschichten auf Lager. Wir müssen hauptsächlich Skilifte und Pisten für die Touristen öffnen und die Lawinengefahr prüfen. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3144471022 Das Gameplay geht in Richtung Skisimulator, denn die Steuerung der Ski ist für mich als Laie schon recht realitätsnah und mitunter körperlich anstrengend. Die Steuerung ist aber mittlerweile so gut umgesetzt, dass ich von der ersten Minute an erfolgreich durch den Schnee pflügen konnte. Wir können Snow Scout im Sitzen spielen, es ist aber als Skispiel natürlich viel immersiver, wenn es im Stehen gespielt wird. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3144471742 Die Interaktionen mit unserem Equipment funktionieren alle sehr gut, manchmal kommt es allerdings mit den Index-Controllern vor, dass wir während des Skifahrens, versehentlich den Rucksack in der Hand bzw. Axt oder Schaufel haben. Den Rucksack können wir einfach wieder loslassen, bei Ausrüstungen sieht das schon anders aus. Wollen wir diese nicht mühselig an der Hütte wieder einsammeln, müssen wir sie schon zurück in den Rucksack packen. Daher rate ich auch ab, irgendwas nützliches, wie den Generalschlüssel in die Anzugtaschen zu packen. Da fällt es schnell heraus. Das Spiel hat eine realistische Physik, nur ist das Holzhacken anstrengender, als einen Berg hochzufahren. Ist ein Berg doch mal zu steil, um ihn mit Skiern aus dem Stand heraus zu erklimmen, können wir auch einfach ohne Ski herumlaufen. Das Spiel hat auch einen lehrreichen Auftrag, ist ja auch vom Ministerium gesponsert. Wir können die Umwelt sauber halten, indem wir Müll aufsammeln und etwas über die Fauna lernen, indem wir Vögel beobachten und sie mit dem Tablett fotografieren, dadurch erhalten wir Informationen über das Tier. Die Grafik ist leider ein wenig cartoonhaft, aber das stört den Spaß, den Snow Scout macht nur wenig. Snow Scout ein entspannter Skisimulator mit lehrreichen Aspekten der sich prima steuern lässt und auch noch für etwas Fitness sorgt. Tunermaxx Media has turned this idea into a little job adventure in the snowy Alps with Snow Scout We are a nameless guy who is taking some time out and, to make matters worse, has taken a vow of silence. The best option for us was probably to sign up with Snow Scout and book a week of scouting in the mountains. Unfortunately, a vow of silence does not mean that others are not allowed to talk to us. So Veronica, known as Vreni, accompanies us throughout the week via walkie-talkie and babbles our ears off. Unfortunately, she keeps confusing her native language with English. A small bug that should have been fixed a long time ago. If you understand English, it's no big deal, Vreni loves Anglicisms immensely. She even writes in English in the chat log on our tablet. Digital detox my ass, wasn't it Vreni? As well as introducing us to our work, the funny chatterbox has a few tips and lots of stories in store. We mainly have to open ski lifts and slopes for tourists and check the avalanche risk. The gameplay is a bit like a ski simulator, as the ski controls are quite realistic and sometimes physically demanding for me as a layman. However, the controls are now so well implemented that I was able to successfully plow through the snow from the very first minute. We can play Snow Scout sitting down, but as a ski game it is of course much more immersive when played standing up. The interactions with our equipment all work very well, but sometimes with the index controllers we accidentally have the rucksack in our hand or the axe or shovel in our hand while skiing. We can simply let go of the rucksack again, but it's a different story with equipment. If we don't want to have the hassle of picking it up again at the hut, we have to put it back in the rucksack. That's why I don't recommend packing anything useful, such as the master key, in your suit pockets. It will quickly fall out. The game has realistic physics, but chopping wood is more strenuous than driving up a mountain. If a mountain is too steep to climb from a standing start on skis, we can simply walk around without skis. However, our walking speed in deep snow is not very high. But we don't just have to ski. The game also has an educational mission, as it is sponsored by the ministry. We can keep the environment clean by picking up litter and learn about the fauna by observing birds and photographing them with the tablet, which gives us information about the animal. The graphics are unfortunately a little cartoonish, but this doesn't detract much from the fun that Snow Scout provides. Snow Scout is a relaxed ski simulator with educational aspects that is easy to control and also provides some fitness. ‘Snow Scout’ is a ski based adventure game in which you are told to open up a ski resort by clearing the paths and making sure the race courses are OK to use. While the game isn’t going to blow anyone away it does just enough to be worth the download. It did take me a little while to get used to the asking mechanics and it is a little janky, to say the least, but I was able to get through most of the game without issue. I do wish the game was a little cheaper than it currently is, but having said that there is still enough content to keep you going for a good few hours so I do give it the thumbs up. If ‘MEH’ was a rating, this game would get it. Do check out my gameplay video in which a nasty glitch made the key vanish so I couldn't get into the hut at the start of the game, thus I couldn't progress any further. The big update did improve the overall handling a lot. Before that I was also struggling. Just be aware if you're a Valve Index user with Index controller. At the moment grips are very sensitive but if you're used to the controllers and play with slightly open hands when skiing there is no problem at all for now. Hopefully the sensitivity gets fixed. I think there is also an option know where you can use your thumbstick to move. Other than that I had no issue moving forward into the story and it was quite relaxing but also a little cardio. :) It improved a lot and it's a thumbs up for me.

Ski controls made me seriously motion sick with its "smooth" turning. I've been playing VR games with all sorts of movement schemes for 4+ years now, haven't felt this bad in a very long time.

VERY FRUSTRATING 2/10

This is a really unique game that tries some new stuff in VR, which is very refreshing. As it says in the blurb, the game is somewhat reminiscent of Firewatch, in that you are afoot in nature and have a nice lady to talk to on the other end of your walkie-talkie. But here, you can even give your own yes/no/silence answers, instead of having to listen to some bloke talking. It's definitely an engaging experience, so far I'm about 3 hours in and as much as I gather, I finished about half the game. Can't wait to play more and find out what's next!

Nice game! I like the story and the atmosphere a lot. Skiing is great fun! I can definitely recommend this game.

Als Schneeliebender deutscher VR Entwickler müsste ich das Spiel eigentlich lieben. Aber leider kann ich das nicht. Denn es hat zu viele Fehler und die Steuerung ist einfach der Horror. Ich habe grade mal 34min geschafft bis mir schlecht war. Dabei halte ich mich eigentlich für einen stabielen VR-Zocker. Aber mir ist nun ziemlich schlecht. Weil jemand entschieden hat, das lineare Bewegung eine tolle Sache wäre. Nein, ist es nicht! Der Blick dreht sich auch abhängig von den Ski, was zuätzliche Verwirrung im Mittelohr schafft. Außerdem ist oft unklar was zu tun ist, auch da das Tutorial keine feste Schrittfolge vorgibt, sondern einen alles durcheinander machen lässt. So das ich mehrmals ratlos fest hing. Ich hoffe ein update kann das hinbekommen, aber viel Hoffnung hab ich nicht.
