The third entry in the Sniper Elite franchise changes the setting from Berlin to North Africa, and it’s technically a prequel. Compared to V2, gameplay is a bit more refined, but the biggest change is that the maps are now more open. I wouldn’t say completely open like later entries, since they still steer you toward the objectives, but you definitely have more freedom. There’s more emphasis on stealth, since going guns blazing will get you killed on higher difficulties. A new mechanic is relocation, which allows you to fire two shots before enemies become alert, then move to a different location where you can fire two shots again. It forces you to move around, and it works well because of the more open nature of the maps. The X-ray bullet kill cam is still brutal, now with a bit more detail. It’s a simple concept, but it’s so satisfying. The game also added some quality-of-life improvements, and the graphics are better compared to V2, although nothing special by modern standards. Replay value is also higher due to more tactical options, co-op and multiplayer, and multiple difficulties and weapons to try, including some customization. It may feel a bit dated compared to newer entries, but it’s still an enjoyable game if you get it on sale. It did crash a few times for me, though.
