I really wanted to like this and tried to give it a full chance but the grind is painful and the controls randomly become unresponsive. I like snake but I cannot recommend this
Snakecremental is an incredible incremental game. Simply put, it's just Snake with a skill tree. The only thing about this game that isn't amazing is the fact that you need to either play it twice to get 100% achievements, or do a few things that are so against the grain of such games that it really never would make sense to do unless you specifically know what you need to do. The actual playtime is about 4-5h per run, or a bit longer if you really wanna get everything done. I certainly would suggest this game to anyone looking to try any such incremental game.

snek
The core gameplay loop: you play the usual snake game, picking up items hurts you, items can later be exchanged to make your snake more durable. Different pickups deal different damage, they gain additional effects with upgrades, and each new level multiplies the damage dealt. Why thumbs down? About 7th level the progression grinds to a halt. The damage from pickups becomes high enough that picking up a wrong item can instakill you. Tounge upgrade (which allows to pick up items several cells ahead of snake's head) is a trap since it makes such situation more likely. Blue pickups add armor which reduce incoming damage, and red pickups heal you, but at 7th level they still do it painfully slow. Upgrading them becomes hard, because 7th level easily kills you and 6th level does not give enough currrency. I do not want to replay the same level over and over again in order to be unable to acquire a single upgrade several times in a row.
Excellent incremental game if you enjoy playing snake. I thought the upgrades and gameplay were both fun. Also quite interesting to see someone try and improve on such a classic concept, definitely a clever idea. Kinda wish it had a rebirth system so I would have an excuse to start over. I probably will anyway. Some recent reviews has marked it down as grindy, which I didn't really find to be the case. It does require slightly more strategy than most incremental games, like collecting enough armor before you start going for points, that I think presents a bit of an obstacle for some players. I reached the end of the game pretty quick with no rushing. It had some points where taking on new levels felt like a bit of a slog, and you have to go back to a previous level to grind out some points. But nothing over the top. Also it goes without saying that if you don't think playing snake is fun, you're probably not going to enjoy this game.
Nice game in its genre! Minor complaints: * Pink skin is practically hurting for eyes; * Colorless nodes are hard to distinguish between available/not because of the framing; * Pixel graphics are quite too pixelated: if you scale out the skill tree it'll blend into a mess of pixels; * You can't really tell how much of each currency you have, because each x1000 (thousand, million, billion, etc) is just marked with random symbol; Major complaints: * Too overstretched progression: you'll often have to grind currencies without being able to purchase any upgrades in-between; Positives: * Runs nicely on a Steam Deck; * Music is basic, but fitting the mood enough; * Easy mode (snake doesn't move until you send the directional input); * Simple, but funny, suitable ending; * Price is just USD 2-3 (in my region).
отвратительно нудная аномально затянутая однотипная помойка. еще и ради 100% ачивок перепроходить.
very fun the first time around but those missable achievements rly TICK me off still fun tho :)
