I won this game in a developer giveaway, otherwise I would have refunded it. Simply put, for the price being asked, it is not worth it. I would be okay with paying maybe $5 for this, as it has some good concepts, but as a whole it just doesn't feel solid enough for the $25 price tag. First the good: -Reaching behind your back to swap weapons is fun. -"Dropping" the magazine and bringing your weapon to your chest to reload is fun. -Exploring the haunted mansion instead of just another wave-shooter is great. Now, the bad: -Weapons don't feel good to use. The hit detection on the sword is atrocious, and it's a coin toss whether or not you'll actually hit the enemies when swinging. -Enemy animations are awful. They all stagger identically no matter how you hit them, and then abruptly end their animation and start walking towards you. -While exploring the mansion is fun, the combat while in it isn't. Every so often you'll hear a scream, and then waves of enemies will attack you for a bit, then stop entirely. I think it would be much better to have enemies planted throughout the mansion than to have them just spawn in every so often. I think there's some good ideas here, but it's just lacking the polish needed for the asking price.
Obnoxious price tag on a cheesy little zombie shooter. The sounds the zombies make is as corny as it gets, the animations are lazy and repetitive, and there is no part of killing them that brings any satisfaction. I found reaching behind my head to switch weapons to be super annoying if I want to cycle the other direction (from machine gun to pistol) I have to reach back to get through all the weapons I don't want first, which is costly when there are zombies right in your face. I would've like to see a little more focus put on designing more realistic enemies, more satisfying shooting/head shots, and more weapons. I got my money back.
right overall the games not to bad the dark house mode is by far the best but considering i paid £18.99 just for the first game i couldnt recommend it, i see that its gone down to £11.99 but thats still more then its worth. The £5 mark is what this game should be, this price you might aswell buy brook haven experience which is the best zombie game, i no people will probably say hordz but hordz is a terrible game. the pistol on it is probably the only weapon you can actually hit stuff with, the sword is just terrible and the machine guns not far off. good reload system but thats about it still to much for me tho so Refund time!
I brought this game when it first came out , it looked good but no so good as I was playing it , the AI on zombies needs to be improved and they don't act like zombies they walk casual and also sound is terrible too, so I issued a refund , I was expecting more realistic feel to this but it does not quiet cuts the mustard for me
It's a nice experience in VR, the sounds sometimes really get your attention and you will startle. You can look at a door opening with a zombie coming to you slowly, and turn around and shoot the zombie from your back, but when you then turn around again that other zombie is standing right in front of your face! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRw1QSChZWs
Nice game.. Zombies animation looks funny, but overall it is a cool game to play with family and friends, it has unique game mechanics for VR
Experienced on the Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers
I was convinced by the Mostly Positive reviews to give this 2016 VR action horror game a chance. It's a good thing that Steam has a good refund policy. This game is horrible. You don't have to take my word for it, you can just watch my video to see me falling through the map here: https://youtu.be/e8miC2PfRRE What makes it really horrible is that this was the second time this happened. Both times I tried playing this game, I fell through the map. Twice in about 15 minutes total of gameplay. But it's not just that's it's a buggy mess. It's clunky as hell. The teleportation system is bad. One little bit of force of your left joystick (Touch controller) will cause you to move in all kinds of directions. Do not hit it by accident. There is free locomotion with your right hand joystick, but It feels like you're floating in the air versus walking on the ground. The weapon handling is also subpar. Reloading (realistic mode) is just weird where you grab the ammo clip, put it on your chest. Then press grip on your weapon and move the weapon to your chest to reload. There's nothing realistic about it. The guns were not aligned correctly to my Touch controllers. And the aiming seemed off. The graphics are also poor as well as the lighting. The death animations were glitchy as sometimes zombies would just freeze standing and other times they would fall to the ground. I honestly couldn't tell when one died except to stare at it for a few seconds to make sure it didn't move again. I didn't get far into the game. I clipped through objects and fell through the map endlessly. At least manually quitting worked. Smell of Death is a good name. Because this game has been abandoned with no updates since 2017. Rate 3/10. Smell of Death ... to your money if you buy this turd without refunding within the 14 day period of buying. I know you won't play this for more than 2 hours though so you're good there.
I did a review earlier where I ripped into this game, now after a little more time in it I will do a new review. Before I wasn't to kind on this title, but TBH it's not as bad as I thought. It's another horror type shooter with waves of creatures, like many other vive games. It's a small time independent or bedroom dev so you pretty much know what you're getting. But it's not to bad considering some of the ♥♥♥♥ that is released and is very playable. The AI could be better, there is far to much ammo left around but that could be the game mode I choose. It has chilling atmosphere but not to terrifying that people who don't like horror avoid. The price at under $5.00 is perfect to pick this title up.
https://youtu.be/3ufnUCIQpP0 Smell of Death is a game that trys to accomplish too much and becuase of that it lacks direction. The game has a lot of great ideas but all those ideas shouldn't necessarily fit into one game or at least the same level. WIth that being said, the game is decent at this point with the dev making changes and updates regularly. It also sales itself as a horror game which is kind of true. However, the atmosphere and all the different variety of monsters constantly running toward you make it feel more like a carnival fun house experience. There are some jump scares but other than that it is not scary at all. The game also still has a lot of bugs but considering the dev is active it's not much of an issue. There are many areas of the room that are unfinished and you can see around the walls to the outside. This is one of those games that needs something other than a thumbs up or down button. Overall, the game is enjoyable but just still needs a lot of work. Because I enjoyed it, I will give it a thumbs up.
This game is awesome! And I will give you the reasons why! A) You don't get motion sickness so easily B) This is seriously terrifying game C) This is hard even though you play on easy D) It is very well made in my opinion E) It was worth the money! F) Super Fun! G) Super Scary Yes I know i said scary twice but it seriously is scary! Thanks to the Game Developers! Thumbs up!!!
