great game!! such good controlls, Graphics, and much more! but not as good as slime rancher 1!
YES.
Shlorp
There will be a TL;DR at the end. ~ Slime Rancher is an Excellent game! One of my favorites! I’ve played north of 120 hours of that game and will probably go back one day to do it all over again. Coming over to play 2 did not inspire the enjoyment that I was hoping, and I cannot in good faith recommend it. I understand why folks love this experience, even if I'm the odd one out. Slime Rancher 2 is great because it’s Slime Rancher! It’s also NOT great because it’s … it’s Slime Rancher. This is sadly something meant more literally than I wish it did. The experience is a direct sidegrade to the original experience - albeit with lower quality. That’s why I don’t like it as much as everyone else - also why my own mother didn’t seem to like it very much. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758881920 There’s actually a lot to like about the title. First and foremost - Harry Mack makes a AAA return to compose the music for the game - which takes center stage above all else. OST worthy of legendary status. The cute slimes, saccharine atmosphere, and kitschy exploration all make a return in force. Slurping up slimes, food, and resources while exploring the Far Far Range is as much a pleasure as it ever was. It’s the same formula that worked for the original title! The nicest things I can say about this game are also the same reasons I can’t rate it very high on a personal level. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758882642 It’s the same thing as the titular Slime Rancher - very little change overall. You corral mostly the same slimes as the first title and put them into the same corrals with the same upgrades, feeding them generally the same foods with the same tools and upgrades. What has changed is not for the better - which makes the entire experience transform from a benign copycat into a lackluster example of why the first is plainly superior. Slime Rancher 2 is agonizingly linear - much more than the first game, and the experience often turns into an uncomfortable marathon sprint. Cold - not nearly as cozy. Resources and objectives are much more spread out and distant while the farm feels more sterile than before. The first game could be grindy, especially at the later objectives - but 2’s grind starts early and doesn’t let up. The pacing is very inconsistent. In the first game, levels were connected enough with shortcuts that massive realm-teleporters were introduced later, but here the place is lazy with them. Everything is overindulgent - giving players too much too early, and too little too late. It’s less of a sequel than an overglorified DLC that does very little to expand on the core gameplay loop, in-game content, or end game objectives. It’s not worthy of the “2” - there are some new slimes and items, but they are far from groundbreaking. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3758882304 I got my mom into playing games, and the first Slime Rancher was a huge part of introducing her. She did more content on her account than I ever did and spent nearly 200 hours in that game. She tried her hand at 2, and after a few hours she moved on. She did not like it. Redeeming factors within are just lifted from the first game. If you never played the first game - you don’t need to bother with this one. If you played the first game - you don’t need to bother with this one. If you’re not really interested in the first game - you don’t need to bother with this one. Between me and my mom, we’ve put nearly 300 hours into Slime Rancher, and less than 30 in Slime Rancher 2 - and the latter portion of those hours were getting tired of it. You don’t need to bother with this one. ~
TL;DR
5/10 Slime Rancher 2 is an Average game. It doesn’t do enough to expand on what the original title offered, but manages to fumble key aspects that made it a cozy, timeless classic. It’s not an outspokenly bad title - you can certainly have fun with it - but it’s hard to argue if it’s worth anyone’s time when the first game is just as available and does whatever this game can do - but ostensibly better.
