About
You're on a path in the woods, and at the end of that path is a cabin. And in the basement of that cabin is a Princess.
You're here to slay her. If you don't, it will be the end of the world.
She will do everything in her power to stop you. She'll charm, and she'll lie, and she'll promise you the world, and if you let her, she'll kill you a dozen times over. You can't let that happen. Don't forget, the fate of the world rests on your shoulders.
You're not going to listen to him, are you? We're supposed to save princesses, not slay them...
Features
Fully voice-acted by the impeccable Jonathan Sims and Nichole Goodnight.
Hand-penciled art - every background and sprite is drawn traditionally with pencil and paper by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
A princess. She's very bad and you have to get rid of her for all our sakes.
No, the Princess isn't a “cosmic horror,” whatever that is supposed to mean. She's just an ordinary human Princess, and you can definitely slay her as long as you put your mind to it.
Don't even think about trying to romance her. It won't end well for you.
Hopefully you won't die. But if you do, you'll die a lot. Be careful and stay focused on the task at hand!
A branching narrative where what you say and what you believe determines both who you are and how the story unfolds. Though I wouldn’t recommend taking any paths outside of the one I lay before you.
A new roleplaying experience from the creators of Scarlet Hollow.
Slay the Princess is a choice-driven psychological horror visual novel/dating sim with dramatic branching, light RPG elements, and hand-penciled art.

It's a good game. Interesting concept of a creature that changes based on someone's perception of it. Exploring the different routes is fun, and it mostly manages to avoid being repetitive. Each route manages to embody a different idea and theme very well, and experementing to see all the outcomes was enjoyable. Can be a bit pretentious at times, particularly with the shambling mound, who speaks in almost pure philosophese, to the point it can be slightly annoying, but it never gets too overbearing. I do appreciate that the game tackles the whole "ending death" concept with quite a bit more nuance than you usually get from the topic. Far too often that topic falls into the no-nuance "death is a good thing actually" trope, which always annoys me to no end. Humans unfortunately have a tendency to rationalize things they can't control, "I cannot stop this thing, therefore, I will pretend this thing is good" The old cliche of "death is what gives life meaning" is probably one of the biggest examples, it sounds deep, but if you think about it for even a bit, it quickly reveals itself to be nonsensical. The destination was never what gave the journey meaning, it was always the journey itself. The narrator is well appreciated in that regard. Definitely my favourite ending was the one where you rebuild the world with the voices. The one where you destroy the princess with no outside help was also cool, but it felt more lonely. Leaving the cabin with the Princess/Stranger was also an optimistic ending, presumably leaving your god selves behind to find new possibilities yourselves, I think it's an interesting concept. Rejecting both options in favour of a new choice is fitting for the themes of the game. The stranger version is the better one, just because I like the Contrarian. Also managing save files for all the routes is slightly awkward, some type of icon of what vessels you have delivered on the save file would have helped for managing all these routes. Overall, I would give this game an 8/10. Gave a lot to think about, going to check out Scarlet Hollow next.
This game never goes the way you think it will and its amazing for that alone. I have never been so happy being wrong about my choices!!
This game was something. I could not recommed this more. But just a warning... "She will lie, she will cheat, and she will do everything in her power to stop you from slaying her. Don't believe a word she says."
My favorite game of all time. The story is top notch, the art is breathtakingly beautiful, there's so many choices and possible outcomes, it's impossible to get bored with it. If I could play it for the first time I would absolutely would a million times over, this game had for real changed my life.
This is a horror game. This is a love story. This is everything and it is nothing. Ok, I'll stop being weird and cryptic, I ain't no Shifting Mound. When I say it is a horror game, I say that in the lightest way possible. It's more a comedy then anything, with the occasional gore or body horror moment, and a little bit of excistentialism, so even if you are not the biggest horror fan, you can enjoy this game, just check the content warning guidelines for what you can handle. And it is a love story. Oh boy is it a love story. Without getting into spoilers, it is very sweet and wholesome in some parts, and a bit not in others, but every route has some (sometimes blatent, sometimes subtle) messaging about love. Do play this game, it is one of my favorites. Also, know that in order to get to the true endings, you need to play through it 5 times, so just be aware of that before you drop it too early thinking you won.
great game made me and my friend cry
