SMS 1999 is in my opinion, the PERFECT spin-off the series needed. don't get me wrong the Retro spin-offs are fine but 1999 manages to take the core of both 123 SMS 1 & 2 and twist it in such a way that makes it a lot more fun. The issue with the original 2 SMS games is that they were pretty barebones, and it really shows when you compare them to this game, what i love about this game is that, while not a direct remake of 1 & 2, it does build on its foundation and expends on it. Gameplay wise, this game is really tough to get into, even after 5 hours on this game i still cannot beat the final level. this however, doesn't mean that the game is bad. In my opinion the gameplay works really well, some maps are def a bit harder to work with, but figuring out where to go and how each characters works is quite satifing and it makes for a pretty unsettling and stressful game. To finish my review id like to say that overhaul this game is awesome and i think even someone who doesn't know what SMS is, could enjoy this. and finally id like to also say thank you to Glitched for making this awesome game!
SMS 1999 is a great arcade-y time!! Think of Slender: The Eight Pages, but drenched in a really cool retro look and more fast paced gameplay. The maps are pretty well designed and filled to the brim with detail and care, as well as the enemies you encounter. You can hop right into this game without previous knowledge of the former titles and still have fun and figure out the story. Though if you were like me and around the series when it was really popular, catching some of the easter eggs or references is pretty fun. It's very replayable, there are many difficulties and you are incentivized to play through them all for extra collectibles that unlock challenge levels, which give a fun spin on the levels and provide more out there experiences not seen in the normal game. My favorite is the City Escape one, where you try to complete the city level with your speed cranked up to the max, but the fastest enemies are there and ALSO have their speed cranked up. It's a fun time, and I always appreciate a good Sonic reference. The music is pretty good too! The more I played the game, the more I got around to really liking them. they're pretty catchy and compliment the vibe, as well as being dynamic and adapting to your progression throughout the level. My favorite would be track for the finale. The enemies are really well animated and filled with personality, as well as the various game over screens. Nightmare is pretty awesome. Overall, for the price, it's a steal. I couldn't recommend it enough. It's also easily the best game in the series- though to be frank, it's not a very high bar. I'm incredibly eager to get my hands on the developers next title Casino Casualty. This dev, and the other contributors, are very passionate people and put a lot of love into their work. I can't wait to play more games from GlitchedLizard.
lowkegenuinely probably the most fun I've had with a horror game and one of the very very few horror games that has struck fear upon me and also has good replayability and the challenges are actually challenging (wow crazy! challenges being hard?? unheard of!) also theres uhh lots of content yeah that's all I feel like saying right now
I can't even lie I had a very good time playing this one. I dunno what compelled me to play more of this series but part of me is glad I did because this game is kinda great lol. It's very simple yet again, and on top of that repetitive, but atleast you don't do the same ♥♥♥♥ in the same map every single time like in the first two. It's one of those games where you collect a certain amount of something in order to finish the level. Think something like Slender. But I really enjoy the arcade-y nature of this one, it's very much based on trial and error, and encourages strategizing. I really enjoyed finally catching onto this because I realized that the first minute and a half is just free time until you collect something, so you can roam the levels and find each spot for the relics before finally picking one up and speeding through it. Like the second game, this one is incredibly difficult, but it wasn't in an annoying way. The final level in particular did kinda piss me off at points but that's mainly because for a heavily lore-focused section it felt a little disappointing that there weren't atleast checkpoints in that level. I died atleast 20 times before finally managing to get through it. Unlike the second game, you don't have to crouch in blue spaces to progress either! OH YEAH, the stealth is fixed too! it doesn't feel very unnatural and nonsensical! The blue hiding spots are now completely gone, replaced only by green spots. There is now 4 different eye indicators in the bottom right. White = safe, closed = hidden, yellow = chased, and red = you're in line of sight. If the eye is red and you run into a green safe spot, the spot becomes compromised by turning red and you can still get killed. If the eye is yellow you are pretty much safe when getting into the hiding spot. This time around you can flash the enemies and blind them. This goes for every single enemy in the game, which there is a large variety of. Their designs are pretty much the same as they were in older entries. I actually figured out what Nightmare was this time around. It seems to be some floating puppet with a sort of lovecraftian energy going on I think that's a good way to put it. I really enjoy the visuals of this game. I am aware it's trying to go for PSX visuals (which it somewhat does well?) but it felt a lot closer to something like IMSCARED rather than like a SH game or something along the lines. I still couldn't care less about the lore of this series but this game seems to be about like a sort of purgatory or 9 circles of hell sorta deal? It's cool. I find this one surprisingly replayable too so I'll def be coming back to it eventually. I am still in awe that this series has a good entry.
peak, merece mas jugadores
I'm surprised this isn't SMS 3, outside of the PSX graphics, gameplay wise this is ALL the series ever wanted and needed: Simple to understand player movement mechanics, less levels compensated with more embrioment variety, a LOT of enemy variety that makes them stand out from each other, magnificent detail to animations and designs for the puppets hunting you down, a VERY fleshed out world that's fun to explore (SPECIALLY THE STUDIO), an OCEAN of extra/post-game content and a story that a bit cliche still fits the setting like a glove and even inmerses you into the game organically. The item locations being randomized is good but can be painful in the late game (Specially the final level), this game is HARD and would only recommend it to people who can handle a lot of trial and error trying to optimize paths and memorizing item spawn points. If SMS 3 has the same quality as this game or even more, a game that despite it's dificulty you can't help but revisit it to play more of it because it's fair and has such fun mechanics to play around with ASWELL as a world this interesting ENHANCED by the gorgeous 80's-esque OST, then I can say without a doubt Slaughter Me Street is gonna have a reinnasance. 5 Euros well spent, my only complain about this game is that sometimes the game is too hard even on Normal Mode (Never played easy mode except for the speedrun archivements) and I must say this game can give weeks if not MONTHS of content to it's buyers. 9/10, this is the best possible outcome for the series, never seen a game with 100% rating (as I'm writting this) on Steam in my entire life, and it's very well deserved.
Last level needed checkpoints cause it goes on far too long to be fun in one go. Otherwise this is objectively the best game in this series. Combining the Slender format of finding 8 items in a map but with FNaF elements like having to track and deal with multiple characters with unique mechanics while managing your resources to fend them off if caught was a neat way to make it stand out from being another basic slender clone. This feel like the perfect evolution of 123SMS2 was trying to go for, but executed WAY better. I also respect the retro direction to the graphics. The previous games, while ambitious, often had the issue of not having enough polish with the graphics, environment, and animations, making the the scares come across more of cheap than threatening. Slaughter Me Street 2 especially was extremely bad with this to where the cheapness really affected the atmosphere. Grounding the scope to the retro style not only makes it easier to develop for, but also gave more time to make these characters feel even more threatening with how much better they're animated and portrayed. Is the game perfect, not really. There are some gameplay moments that can feel cheap at times, with the aforementioned last level lasting WAY too long to be fun playing in one go, I wouldn't say the game is Scary outside a few moments, enemies are all dealt with the flashlight, which can take away from their unique attributes that could've been more interesting to juggle between, and at the end of the day, it's still another slender clone. But I still feel there's been a good amount of effort placed in this game to improve upon the previous games foundation to where I respect their dedication.
very good it's like playing a ps2 game
