This game was played in its entirety on an Apple MacBook M1 Air. I obtained all achievements with no issue. There were no bugs or crashes, beyond the game's own shortcomings. This isn't a terrible game. But it isn't a good one, either. Slash Quest has a ton of charm and good humor. It has a nice gimmick that will hook you into the game quickly. But, beyond that, there is almost nothing left of value. The enemies you see in the first world, are the same enemies you will encounter in every other world, every challenge, every side quest, and the delivery quest. The mechanics you see in the first world will follow the same pattern. Each world does add a unique wrinkle, and they do change up your tactics and how you solve puzzles, but the differences are minor at best. Each world does have a very unique boss and they are fairly interesting to fight against. I would say that almost the entire game, including almost all of the challenges, all of the side quests, as well as the delivery quest, is WAY TOO EASY. I'm talking 1 out of 10 on the difficulty scale. Thankfully, the final world has a few puzzles that made me think at least. But, those only come right at the end. Most of the game has very little challenge to it. The controls are terrible. This was initially made for a touch screen (and they weren't the best controls there either, though they were better than this). You can use a dpad or analog stick to control the sword, though neither is precise enough for my liking. You will invariably fail a puzzle or a challenge because you tapped the dpad or analog stick for a second, and your sword swung wildly in almost a 180 degree circle. Other times, you'll hold left or right, and marvel at the lethargy on display. The game does a fairly good job at making the levels almost foolproof, so you never have to redo them as long as you watch for all of the treasure chests. The logic is good here, and you should not be able to trap yourself in any level's design. However, there were two occassions where I had to reload to a checkpoint. Once on ice, where I simply slid into a corner (not supposed to be able to do that) and I could not move at all anymore. Another time was in an arena, where the arena did not open up after killing all enemies. Thankfully, the checkpoints seem to be incredibly numerous. In both instances, I lost a minute at most. There are a lot of quirks to the physics. Switches, after being used, will launch you away from them (this is not the best way to handle this) and frequently this can cause you to hit something you did not mean to. Rotating cannons seem to use a random number to determine when they'll actually fire (requiring you to use them over and over again). The developers did not do much porting this game from Apple Arcade. One of the most common loading screen tips is "don't like the controls? change them in options!". There is no option to change the control scheme (there was in the Apple Arcade version!). Even better, the pause menu (which you will access OFTEN to change your passive skill) has a button marked Game Center. Thankfully, it does open the Steam Overlay (and goes right to achievements), but was it so hard to replace that one text string? (Game Center is the Apple achievement app for iPhones, iPads, and Macs running apps from the App Store). The ending is the coup de grace. It has a real "we are supposed to release in a week and the game is only half done" energy. There has been a decent amount of story up to this point, and the ending basically wraps things up with two sentences on screen. The *absolute best part* of the ending, however, is that you've been taunted with a second passive slot the entire game. It sure would have been useful in saving me from changing out my passive so often. Towards the end, when it had still not unlocked, I assumed it was for a DLC or expansion that never happened. Or, maybe it bugged out. But, nope! You get it right at the end of the game! What can you do with it now? Absolutely nothing! You cannot replay the main story stages or the delivery quest. You CAN replay the challenges and mini games. Guess what? You can't use passives in either of those. Chef's Kiss.
An absolutely delightful game! I do wish it was a little longer, but the levels were charming, the puzzles were simple yet engaging. The enemies were diverse and fun to fight. The challenges got a little difficult near the end but I am hoping a sequel comes out soon! Going to look for more from this developer.
👍
Jogo bonitinho d+++++! Super recomendo!
GORGEOUS GAME. Play this on Steam Deck. I played for a lot longer than it says I did, so not sure what happened there. I played a lot on Deck and on my TV. The colors are JUICY, the design is simple and fun. Gameplay is puzzley and sometimes even challenging! Really fun! Feels like a great mobile game and I'm glad it's on console instead.
The trailer and store page describe quite accurately what Slash quest is : A small, colorful adventure game coupled with some (light) clumsiness simulator. Don't expect to spend hundred of hours on it, it really isn't long. Don't take it for mind-globuling twists, the story isn't complex at all. Don't prepare tissues in the event you cry or you roll laughing on the floor, it doesn't try to invest you a lot emotionally in its characters. And that's a good thing! It is a nice short treat between those very deep or emotionally heavy games, one that knows how to not overstay its welcome. It's one that fits easily into one's busy schedule. It's simple and easy enough you only need a minute or two to get back into the game, should you leave it for two weeks. That's where it shines. It's simplicity also makes it very adapted to kids, I'd wager around ~6 to 9 years old ones. Again, it is not mind-bending, but it does the simple things right and it will respect your children's time. And that's what matters!
My 9 year old son played this game. It was lots of fun! Adventure, combat, and puzzles. The control are quite different from other games, and gets a bit of time to get used to. Overall, the game was fun and required little assistance from an adult.
