If you like Sim Tower, you'll like this game!
I took the gamble and decided to snag this game on launch. I enjoyed Sim Tower when I was younger but wondered what it looked like from the people's point of view. Now with Skytropolis, I can in VR! Graphics/Performance The game has clean graphics, probably to reduce the amount of processing when there are a lot of objects in view. Even with my GTX1080, I still experienced some judders and slow framerate when a bunch of stuff was in view. I was running on the beautiful setting though which I'll adjust next session. The style is very minimalist but works well. The people are silhouettes but I wish they had some sort of smiley or sad face on them to gauge how the general population feels. I also wished they would interact with the recreational buildings like seeing tennis players on the tennis court. If you like to min max your floor layouts, you'll have a hard time squeezing your head between the chunks of buildings you placed when you need to revisit that floor. Gameplay The balanceing of the people's needs are similar to other building simulation titles where you have to build homes when the housing need is high, offices when business demand is up, etc. The game also has challenges allong the way that spur you along with money rewards. If you do like to min max the layout, you'll have a fun time trying to see how much you can optimize the space in relation to the size of the buildings you can place. It's enjoyable in VR and the controls work very well for this type of game. Your left hand acts like an easil but with building types instead of paint. Your right selects from the types and places them in the world. Final Thoughts For around $20, I think it's definitely a good value. I'm really excited to see something other than wave shooters or jump scare games in the VR store. 2 thumbs up!
Loved it, been waiting for something like this in VR. The idea of the roomscale skyscraper makes so munch sense given your playspace. More complex and detailed than i expected. a couple of glitches but otherwise good. Great job!
I'm finding Skytroplis to be an almost meditative experience. It's so calming and forgiving (at least so far). I recommend playing it in VR and, rather than standing, sitting the floor. This gave me a feeling of being a kid building a lego set, or constructing some huge toy; all of the controls still work this way. City building isn't something that immediately comes to mind when thinking of ideas for a VR game, but it really works here. The team clearly demonstrated their experience designing VR controls. The rotating table menu is a neat idea and the movement, zooming, and interacting with buildings always feels intuitive and comfortable. Another stand-out feature of the game is the soothing, upbeat soundtrack. It doesn't make itself too known, but aids that meditative feeling.
Adorable city builder which really shines in VR roomscale setup (a sense that can't be conveyed from mere 2D screenshots). Being able to move around the city and scale it up and down as desired makes it feel like a very satisfying toybox, and you can zoom in and follow your people around, or walk around your city like a giant. I found the construction aspects the most satisfying as you get the sense of putting together a tower in virtual space. An appealing simulator which will appeal to those who are looking for a more relaxing, meditative VR experience. Great chill soundtrack too!
Gamplay Review : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXoAq4glOkM SkyTropolis is a completely unique game and although it works and has been built from the ground up to support both Desktop and VR, it is in VR where this game makes complete sense. Initially I was unimpressed, first 30mins left me feeling a bit lost, confused and uninspired. I am glad that I persisted though. It took me a while, a good 2 hours of gameplay split between multiple Desktop and VR sessions (mostly VR) to really `get` this game and understand what it is, what is does, why it does that and how best to use that to your advantage. Now that I have had the chance to `Master` the theory and controls I find this game very interesting, therapeutic and challenging, but not overly challenging yet (3 cities in I think I have cracked it!) PRO's ********* - VR mode is awesome, to be able to pull, push lift, drag expand and imerse yourself within the gameplay is just brilliant. - The graphics are not overly detailed but at the same time beautifully detailed and create a fantastic gaming environment. - Excellent choice of music to play with, very chilled, very relaxed almost meditative. - Concept....totally unique (mostly) and therefore very refreshing. - Bright colourful, especially rewards + fireworks :-) - Controls are very intuitive (eventually, but not at first). - Runs smooth as butter. - Has a real...`I just want to play a bit more` kinda feel about it. Cons ********* - The tutorial is either absent, hidden or just not in-depth enough, I figured the controls out and then they were brilliant, perfectly thought out and beautifully and cleverly implemented...but it took a while to get to that point. (It is also possible I just jumped straight in past the tutorial because I am too impatient) - Cannot rotate the city with your controller, despite being able to push, pull, lift & expand etc... No rotate (Req. a button, which is badly implemented and breaks the immersion) - Depth and lack of content is a concern, that being said I have not unlocked anywhere near everything yet! - Not enough detailed feedback, how many `Peeps` live in each residential building? Are they occupied? Conclusion *************** Really good quality game, very well put together, clever and a lot of chilled out relaxed fun. My only real concern is the content available, something that could be easily fixed with updates or perhaps DLC at a fair price. (Maybe the devs will read and comment on this point?) My only hatred of this game is the inability to rotate with controller. My recommendation would be to allow one of the movement buttons become the rotate button because when you hit that button it rotates around you rather than rotates the city, just annoying and awkward.....honestly only downside I have found. If you have VR and this is on sale or there is confirmation of more content / DLC to come, then def buy in if you want a really nice, chilled out fun experience. Really do Like it a lot!
This is my favorite sim / builder in VR. If you like Sim City or Sim Tower style games, then this might be a game for you.The controls are easy to use and work really well. The game uses room scale and you can zoom in and out to get around. I had no issues with motion sickness and the view in VR is great, I love moving around my city towers and watching the people. You can also play it without VR, so don't hesitate grab it now and enjoy. Here is my game play video if you'd like to see it. I have been waiting a while for a game like this for VR and I was not disappointed. I was on the fence about this one at first but this game is exactly what I was hoping it would be: a sim city/sim tower-style management game that feels great in VR. I am hoping they make Rift/Touch-specific controls at some point (the time control menu feels a bit awkward) but as-is it works well enough that it does not detract much. There is a decent amount of content to work with and there are still some things I haven't unlocked. The goals and challenges really help with pacing so you pretty much always feel like you have something to work toward. I hope they continue to add and polish it going forward as it has a lot of potential but the core gameplay is solid as is. Overall: looks great, feels great, I'm having a blast!
Great nastalgic memories of playing City Sim builders growing up. It would be awesome to have the fun natural disasters feature like Godzilla or Alien space ships destroying the city. Pre-built cities would be cool too.
This game checks a lot of boxes for me. when I first got a vive I was going into google blocks and building tiny low-poly cities out of bricks and making ugly trees - this game is very sim-tower-ish and you have to balance your residents desires and make something that's not ugly. the team appears responsive thus far (review made within two weeks of launch) if you like building towers and organizing things, you might enjoy this game. very fun design/concept. love the art, they've got the underpinnings, but I'm thinking they need to work a bit on the informational interface with the player to inform them of a few things better. overall, definetly worth the buy, if you're hesitant, wait a month and come back to see if the dev's have kept the pace up. concept and technology is all there for a great game, so far very fun even with limited info. reading the help page (stickied to this discussion forum) is a must. experimenting and trying over is a given for the first few runs. soon you'll be watching your little guys wander around your parks and buildings with a smug contentment as you construct your gleaming testament to man's folly.
Gameplay Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kweZuOqI14Y&list=PLrpCFaqHnjdyiF-atoM9iZyYbUuDAvLr9&index=35&t=173s I'm a sucker for building games. This one just hit the right nerve for me. The VR control interface is very intuitive. It works really well with the VR setup, you walk around your tower place the buildings with your hand, easy peasy. The gameplay is simple but engaging. You bild up your floors, satisfy your inhabitants needs and unlock more and more different buildings, some of which actually are so tall, that they take up space on the floor above them. This makes the optimal placement of buildings a bit more of a challenge. Graphicly Speaking it has a "comic" look to it and it has alot of details. You can "zoom" in and look at the interrior of the buildings which is a nice touch. I think this is a pretty fun game and if one day you feel lazy and don't want to put on your VR gear and move around, you can just play it in desktop mode aswell. A good game, the price looks high for a vr game at first but there is alot of content here. Worth it in my book.
