I am absolutely enchanted with this game. It looks like a simple Sudoku knock-off, but it is a cleverly crafted mechanic that feels totally different. You are looking at a top-down grid where the outside numbers represent different-sized skyscrapers visible from that number. For example, the nuumber 1 means that only one skyscraper can be seen from that vantage point; thus, it must be the tallest (represented by a 4 inside the grid). The interface is simple, but elegant. The mechanics aren't explained, but left-click brings up a wheel with numbers 1-4 that you can place, while right-clicking brings up a similar wheel, but places them as if in "pencil" mode (the numbers will be smaller so you can work through solutions). There is no undo, but you can overwrite numbers as often as needed. Skyscrapers does not notify you if you've made a mistake, so you can't "game" the game by placing random numbers in the grid; if you mess up, you'll be well and truly stuck. I appreciate this, but some players might miss the option to turn on such hints. It will save multiple boards on exit, which is a nice addition. Another great touch is that, when the difficulty ramps up, multiple solutions are accepted so you're not locked into the developer's preference (something I wish more Indie game developers would take note of). The music is soft and unobtrusive and the sound effects are servicable, and there are options to fade or turn off both, as well as multiple screen resolution choices and a window / fullscreen toggle. The addition of a surprise visual novel (which I had not even known was there!), unlocakbles, and a random puzzle generator make this a keeper. Lots of fun, and zero problems or bugs encountered. What a breath of fresh air! Highly recomennded.
Mamy pola i cyfry. I w czym rzecz z tą mnogością gatunków? To Airi, sztuczna inteligencja przyobleczona w wirtualne ciało. Służyła do kontroli systemu satelitarnego o niebywałej mocy, przykładowo zdolnej zniszczyć spore połacie Ziemi. Przydała by się jednak choć szczypta oryginalności... Good puzzle game. The game has simple rules, so it's easy to learn how to play, but still offers a good level of challenge and i really liked the possibility of insert notes, which is extremely useful in the most difficult levels. The main campaign is well studied: it starts with very simple levels and gradually introduces more difficult levels, offering a good level of challenge without becoming frustrating. There is also a visual novel (I don't like visual novels so much, but this one is fine and there are some funny easter eggs) and the possibility to generate levels randomly, offering good longevity. The game also has a low price, so i totally recommend it.
Skyscrapers or High Rise is one of those less well known Japanese logic puzzles but they are great fun. It is not at all similar to Sudoku except for the fact that they both use numbers.
PUZZLE INFO: - Each row or column can never have a building with the same height - Numbers outside the grid tells you how many buildings can be seen from that side - Taller buildings block shorter ones eg. in a row 21453, viewing from the left you will see 3 buildings (245) viewing from the right you will see 2 buildings (35) All puzzles can be solved with logic alone. There is never a need to guess.
What you see from the screenshots is what you get. The layout is really that simplistic but it does includes all the basic yet important features one would require in a puzzle game: - notation system - mid puzzle progress is saved automatically - handcrafted puzzles - windowed mode is possible - turning off sounds & music is possible - extra: random level generator = unlimited puzzles I was actually surprised to find a digital adaptation and on steam to boot. This game however added in a (really redundant) visual novel on the side. To be honest, I skimmed through as the plot was crap. The puzzles on the other hand are great. Note: You do not have to play the vn in order to play the puzzles but you have to finish most puzzles in order to progress through the vn. If you yearn for more, there is a much more challenging variant known as High Rise Suguru which can be found in 'Beyond Sudoku' published by Puzzler. If you like such (obscure) Japanese logic puzzles, do check out Hashi, Siltherlink, Hitori.
If you like difficult sudoku but you're kind of tired of it, this might be the perfect challenge and length of puzzle game for you. I love the logic of the skyscraper concept, and best of all, you never have to guess. It took me several hours to solve every puzzle in the "story" (I didn't even bother with the random puzzle generator) and since the scratch work feature works fine, I never had to get out a piece of paper or backtrack. Okay, actually on one puzzle I took a picture of my work in case I screwed it up, but other than that, every puzzle was satifying to work out on screen. Then there's the visual novel element. I found that part to be completely pointless. I clicked my way through to find every achievement, but it's about 15 minutes of game time and tacked on just to give some color to an otherwise drab series of puzzle boards. I guess anime-style girls sell games, but there is literally one choice (of no consequence because you are really just picking which scene to see first) and one "puzzle" (where you just follow the instructions) to get the good ending. The good ending is just a way of saying you finished enough of the number grids. You have to try to find the wrong thing to click to get the bad ending. Anyway, there's nothing here to like if you don't like sudoku, but if you do, this is a nifty little logic game that will last you $4 worth.
Fun logic game and visual novel.
