Oh man, skateboarding is a dry genre on Steam. Not nearly enough good skateboarding games in it. I beat this game the day after Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 was announced. I think I revisited this game for that reason. Skate City is a 2.5D skateboarding game that isn't that bad. It isn't fantastic either. There is a bit of a challenge to be had but has a few hours of enjoyment. The graphics are nice but had little variation between the three locations which was disappointing. This game is originally a mobile game but isn't horrible to play with a controller on Steam. Definitely wait for a sale if you're interested. Backlog Games Beaten 2025 13/50
Skate City is a relaxed, style-forward skateboarding experience developed by Agens and Room8 and published by Snowman that deliberately shifts focus away from high-pressure competition and technical overload in favor of flow, atmosphere, and personal expression. Rather than trying to replicate the depth or complexity of classic skateboarding simulators, the game presents skating as a meditative act—about cruising through city streets, chaining tricks smoothly, and enjoying the rhythm of movement. This design philosophy defines the entire experience, making Skate City feel less like a challenge-driven sports game and more like a digital interpretation of the calm satisfaction that comes from an unhurried skate session. The game is structured around three iconic real-world locations—Los Angeles, Oslo, and Barcelona—each reimagined through a clean, stylized lens that emphasizes skate-friendly layouts over strict realism. Streets curve naturally, rails and ledges are placed intuitively, and elevation changes subtly guide players toward creative lines. These environments feel designed to be explored repeatedly, encouraging experimentation rather than punishing mistakes. While the total number of cities is modest, each one has a distinct visual and tonal identity that keeps the experience fresh as players move between sunlit boulevards, nighttime urban spaces, and European streetscapes. Skate City’s controls strike a careful balance between accessibility and expression. The trick system is intuitive enough that new players can quickly land ollies, kickflips, grinds, and manuals, but it also allows more experienced players to string together longer, more stylish combos through timing and rhythm. The game’s 2.5D perspective keeps movement readable while still offering depth, and the physics feel forgiving without becoming floaty. There is a strong emphasis on flow—maintaining momentum, landing cleanly, and transitioning seamlessly between tricks—which reinforces the game’s relaxed identity. Progression is built around a wide range of challenges scattered throughout each city. These tasks ask players to reach score thresholds, perform specific trick combinations, or navigate sections with precision. Rather than escalating into punishing difficulty, the challenges are designed to gently push players toward mastery, encouraging experimentation with different techniques and routes. Completing objectives rewards in-game currency that can be spent on cosmetic customization and gameplay upgrades, giving a tangible sense of growth without turning progression into a grind. Customization plays a meaningful role in shaping the experience. Players can unlock new boards, outfits, and trick modifiers that subtly alter how skating feels. While these systems are not deeply complex, they allow players to tailor their skater’s style and performance to match their preferred approach—whether that’s focusing on smoother lines, higher scores, or visual flair. Over time, this customization helps create a personal connection to the skater, reinforcing the game’s emphasis on individuality rather than competition. The presentation is one of Skate City’s strongest assets. Visually, the game embraces a minimalist aesthetic with soft lighting, clean geometry, and understated environmental detail. This restraint keeps the screen readable during fast movement while also contributing to the game’s calm, modern vibe. The soundtrack complements this perfectly, leaning heavily into lo-fi, chill electronic beats that make skating feel almost meditative. Audio and visuals work together to create a cohesive atmosphere that invites long, relaxed play sessions rather than short bursts of adrenaline. That said, Skate City’s intentionally subdued design can feel limiting depending on player expectations. Those looking for sprawling open worlds, deep trick systems, or intense competition may find the experience too gentle or lacking in long-term variety. The challenge structure, while satisfying, does not evolve dramatically over time, and once objectives are completed, continued engagement relies largely on personal enjoyment of flow and self-imposed goals. Additionally, remnants of the game’s mobile origins can occasionally be felt in interface decisions and overall scope. Despite these limitations, Skate City succeeds because it never loses sight of its core vision. It does not attempt to be a definitive skateboarding simulator, nor does it chase spectacle for its own sake. Instead, it offers a focused, thoughtfully designed experience that celebrates the joy of movement and the simple pleasure of skating through beautifully crafted urban spaces. For players who appreciate games that prioritize mood, rhythm, and self-expression over intensity and competition, Skate City delivers a uniquely calming and satisfying take on skateboarding that feels refreshing in a genre often dominated by excess. Rating: 7/10
Chill skateboarding game. It's a 2D sidescroller with pretty simple controls. The way you play it is that you can do short missions and there's freeplay with some challenges. When you complete these you get money that you can use to unlock one of the two other maps than the first and to buy gear for your skater. The artstyle is great and the gameplay is fun. The maps are real locations and there are spots that exist in real life.
This game is very nice to just chill after a long day, it got nice musik, good gameplay, nd nearly no glitches or bugs. I buyed it for 4 euros and it was totally worth it
Better than Olli Olli !!! Relaxing skate game. Soundtrack lo-fi beat is hypnotic. Tricks are not complicated, and many goals and challenges. Too bad it doesn't have cloud saves and it miss a lot content of the original Apple Arcade Game. Please add them ! Works great on Steam Deck
Got on sale for 1.50 SICK!!!!!!!
The game is fun with fine challenges and good feeling while skatin
Skvělá hra s inovativním ovládáním. Zabavila mě na 6 hodin.
