Adding a battle pass to a paid game is just disgusting, especially 3 years after launch Sure, maybe if it was a free battle pass, but no, you added a PAID battle pass to your PAID game, greedy pigs.
Great game, battlepass was a stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ idea though fire the very clueless higher up that made that decision
I think I would have preferred never seeing an update to the game ever over having to see they added a battle pass to a game I paid money for already.
Goated game but battlepasses are super predatory so I can't recommend anymore. This game did not need a battlepass.
This game was really really fun, I may go as far to say it is my favorite VR title to date. A perfect example of what VR should be: your body as the controller. Sadly, it seems that after a battlepass update nobody asked for, servers are dead. cannot find a queue. It makes me quite sad to say not reccomended, and hopefully if there is content added in the future the game may be revived. but as it is, theres simply nobody playing, and its not fun to play by yourself.
A fun game, but seriously, do NOT buy this game unless you want to play singleplayer. I played this game a long time ago, and have about 7.5 hours of game time. I checked back after a new update dropped, and enjoyed every second. Servers were not too big, but the player count was high enough so queue times were low. You would occasionally run into the same people back to back, and oh how it was fun having miniature rivalries in the queue. Mechanics wise, the game does not actually feel like sword combat. If you found this game looking for intense sword fighting, this game is not that. Instead of traditional swordplay and physics like what Blade & Sorcery or similar titles try to aim for, Broken Edge plays closer to a Fighting game like Street Fighter or Samurai Showdown. Your health is measured in sword length, and every clash shaves off sword length for both people based on multiple factors: 1. Where the swords collided, so if you hit closer to their sword's hilt with the end of your sword, you will deal far more damage and take less damage. 2. How close to the "character style" you were when you struck. The game uses a hidden "awakening" meter for your weapons and based on what character you picked, your attacks will carry more weight if you follow the character's gimmick. For instance, the Duelist moves the rapier horizontally and vertically consistently, while always aiming at the opponent and occasionally stepping forward or backward to take space. 3. Special abilities. Everyone has a set of 3 special abilities, a block to protect your body from being hit once (normally an instant KO if their sword is awakened), a buff for your sword that makes it do max awakening damage for one hit and not take any damage, a one use sword regeneration on demand, and a last stand sword regeneration if you are left with just the hilt. When combined, the game becomes much less of a brainless hack-and-slash vr sandbox and much more complex. Do I aim for their shoulder given their stance, or do I chip away their sword more to get a better angle? Should I use my class consumable weapon to push the attack, or should I save that for if I'm cornered? A departure from what you would expect for VR combat, sure, but one of the most fun VR combat games I've seen and played. So, why am I not recommending this game? The servers (at least from SteamDB) are basically empty. Odds are, people are just playing it from the built in oculus store, but the game is extremely dead. It doesn't help that after not dropping any content updates for a long while, they add a battlepass for a paid game. I loved this game so much, it is just unfortunate to see it in such a rough state. As far as I know, there are no games quite like it. Maybe one day it'll see a resurgence.
This game has an interesting idea for it ill give it that but it lacks in balance and obviously some characters are incredibly way stronger then others, however im not going to give a bad review just on that because that happens on most fighting games. The problem to me is. If you are from EU, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME Most people that still play this game are from the US and playing with anything above then 40 ping makes the game just incredibly frustrating to play. The only way to fix this issue would be if the devs made the decision to make the game free to play and region locked. However considering the added battle pass for a quick buck i highly doubt this will ever happen. TLDR: Not a terrible game, unplayable if you are in EU.
simple idea, awesome execution maybe the most obtuse versus game I've ever played but weird VR fencing is incredibly fun and dealing more damage by larping better is satisfying online playerbase is very small and the handful of insufferable players make this game difficult to enjoy for long periods, but short sessions and with friends are a blast
This game deserves more attention. I almost can't believe the dedication that the devs have to it despite it being relatively niche. $20 cad is more than fair for this hidden gem.
The best pvp game in VR in my opinion. No artificial weight to the weapons but its genius awakening mechanics and fencing like gameplay rewards mastering how you move with your blade and how you strike. Gets my blood pumping everytime.
