About
Sisyphus Paradox mixes traditional side-scrolling shoot 'em up gameplay with many roguelike mechanics, such as procedurally generated star maps to explore, bonuses that are persistent between runs, and multiple different builds you can try to conquer your enemies. Course through hand-drawn battlefields, lose, try again, until you solve the Sisyphus Paradox.
The Story: An ordinary person finds themselves flung across the galaxy. They are lost far away from home, with a voice in their head as their only guide and companion. Strange alien looking creatures are in pursuit. Help them fight their way back to Earth.

3 Playable Ships: Each has very distinctive mechanics that go well beyond simply having different stats.
56 Unique Items: You have weapons, passives and active-use specials, all of which can be upgraded, and some can change significantly as they level.
10 Timestreams: Each more challenging than the last. As you become better at the game, more options are revealed to you.
The Antagonists: There are three different factions to face, each with their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their own Bosses and Minibosses.
Infinite Universes: Choose your path across the stars as each run will offer you a new map to explore, full of random encounters and enemies to deal with.
Multitude of Options: Each ship has slots for two weapons, two passives, and two specials, giving you a multitude of build options with which to approach each game.
Sisyphean Task: Every time you are defeated you set out on a new journey, hopefully moving closer to your end goal, this time with new bonuses to help you out.

Fast-paced and addictive gameplay, the loop gets better the more familiar you become with the game. The music is epic and grows on you and the hand-drawn graphics are a nice touch. If you are into roguelikes, this one should be in your collection.
There is more depth here than I expected. The gameplay loop can be addictive and there is enough variety in the loot and builds you can make to keep you entertained. I really love the music even if the sound fx could be improved. Not a huge fan of the graphics but they are very unique. I'm hoping the devs keep working on this, even if it is relatively feature complete for an early access game.
totally worth playing this one! it is challenging, but rewarding. Once you play it a few times you get upgrades and boosts. It has fast pace action, upgrades for spaceships and weapons, achievements and a cool soundtrack! super addictive! nice one! the more i dive into it, the more i want to play.
Very nice game, arcade fun, spiced with RPG elements and true to it's title challenge!
I really liked the story and the artwork! For sure on my top 5 scifi games for 2024. One thing it kinda bothered me was that when you go down one route you can't go back. Sure I get the whole "on the run" trope, but by not allowing backtracking some quests might not be possible to complete. My suggestion would be to (ofc) allow it but make it extremely dangerous.
Fun addictive and has an interesting story so far (not yet completed). The music is fantastic, the gameplay is smooth and has a unique art style that works very well. Wish i could play it on mobile too.
As you play more (from play to play) , some permanent improvements are unlocked and your ship is upgraded. I also like the fact that you can choose your rewards and that you can buy different weapons.
I just burned my pasta playing this, so I reckon it warrants an early review. I never burn my pasta. Sisyphus Paradox is a labor of love and it shows. If you're looking for that roguelite "just one more run, I promise" experience, it hits the spots *JUST RIGHT*. Moreover, this comes from someone who's not a fan side-scrolling shooters. The different weapons, components, and customization options, however, can drastically alter how the game plays. If you're smart about it, you can somewhat "cheat" your way around the bullet hell aspect. And it feels great, too. My only real piece of criticism at this stage is that the UI/UX design, though fully functional, could use some polish. Which is about what you'd expect from any early access indie. Bonus points for the Camus quote on the Game Over screen.
Considering this game is in early access and is developed by a small indie studio, it's a lot of fun! I really like the old-school arcade-y feel with rouge-like elements... The music is superb! Attention to detail is what I value in games and I like how any modifications you make to weapons are shown visually as well! It has a very good foundation but needs a lot of work for sure... Few criticisms I can give and it might be a 'me' problem but I feel like bullets blend in with the background and I can't see them well to dodge with my ship; and the backgrounds themselves definitely need to change... The UI needs improvement and some sounds seems to be a placeholder, which I'm sure devs are not gonna keep in the final product. I only got the chance to play less than an hour so far but my overall impressions are great already... I hope devs don't give up on the game because it has an immense potential to be amazing.
Oh man, this is a cool one. Recommended. A retro recipe brought to the present as a rogue-lite. Reminds me of a number of old arcade games. (Gives me also a bit of Raptor: Call of the Shadows vibe) It is a bit challenging to begin with, but also very addictive with equally addictive music! Synthwave is my go-to background relax music🙂 Good, moody writing, with a nice mystery to it. I see that another made the mandatory Camus joke, so I'd instead like to say that I liked the Odyssey quote about Sisiphus' repetitive task for the rogue-like game😄 (Will write more as I play more!)
