This game is a lot of fun. Love the arcade feel to it where you can just pick up and play a level. Definitely some nostalgic vibes with space shooters of the past. Controls feel really good on both mouse/keyboard and HOTAS. I also really like how unique each of the ships feel, though I still have to try them all out. Good times so far!
Finally a easy to play Terminal Velocity type game and priced right.
Just finished doing the main 20 mission plot line with ~ 6.5 hours of play. Here's some thoughts. Silverwing is definitely an independent work of love and needs a bit of polish, but it was quite fun once you get past that The game took a bit of tweaking of controls to feel right on the controller and the control scheme felt a bit like everspace but less fluid and clunky. The story was decent - nothing groundbreaking but solid for the tropes of the genre. There were some funny moments along the way, especially when you were in the hangar and random announcements came over the speakers. The game has a tongue in cheek tone and it made me chuckle a few times. Overall I enjoyed the game and it was a fun way to spend an evening. Felt a bit nostalgic, like playing older star wars fighter games or mid-2000s space sims. Pros

It was fun once some things got tweaked in controls and you get past some of the less polished aspects and accept that it is what it is.
Nothing was procedurally generated, which always bugs me about games from bigger studios when the gameplay might be fun enough but lacks depth. This game had depth.
The story was entertaining, which makes it better than elite dangerous in that way.
Turret building defense game was intersting enough, but would work better with a setup phase and then a wave attack, or a multi-wave attack of smaller waves. Some UI notices like "Wave 1" etc would have been good.
The last level was quite fun in terms of level design.
Cons

It needs some polish and tweaking in many areas, but plays as well as some older school space flight games. Understanding the labor-of-love nature of this helps understand the type of game it is.
The ballistic guns didn't feel as fun to fire as the other guns.
I had to redo chunks of the gamepad controls to make it feel better to fly. I mapped wasd to the left stick and pitch / turn to the right stick. LB and RB I mapped to up and down. I made the right side buttons missle / radar / special / 2nd weapon and mapped the primary fire to the right trigger with a soft pull / long pull also firing the second weapon at once. Left trigger was afterburner and that was pretty much all I needed.
The insta-death on collisions was annoying, especially when the flight model felt a bit touchy.
Ways it could be improved

Add in some auto aim that you can configure. That would make the game feel better.
A first person view would have been fun, even without cockpit just a hide fighter option.
Add a mission selector (from the starmap?) or just a training sim to learn some stuff and get used to the controls. The first few levels are training, but more player control would be good.
Some customization options on a game like this can make up for some of the polish issues and make it a fun thing ot dip into just to blow off some steam. Like Collision damage multiplier to tune down or up, shields to tune for easier or harder play, etc.
More ui notes and text like descriptions of what different difficulties do, text descrpiptions and lore on your enemies / things you find in the main story, etc. The tongue in cheek tone would work well there and add some narrative engagement.
Been a fan of flight games forever and I like this one as a little arcade-style shooter. Fun to just strafe around and fight other ships. Not too big of a learning curve on the controls (but I did reset some of the defaults in Options). Music is great and the voice-over Easter eggs are amazing...nice touch!
Although the game recognises the HOTAS, it sets EQUAL default actions to the Throttle and Joystic, and programming the buttons is cryptic at best. After several attempts at getting it to work, I finally desisted.
Fun game. I enjoyed my run through. My computer is right about the minimum requirements and it did alright in game play. Menus were laggy for me. A map would be nice on a few of the levels in particular but you would lose getting the explore and search the world.
Im not a big arcade person, but this game is absolutely phenomenal for a basic flight simulator game. The only critiques I would make is that the voice acting is kind of low quality, and it would be a nice addition to the game if a sort of open world/freeroam mode was added.
Had high hopes based on trailer video. But the game crashes if there's a joystick/throttle/hotas plugged in. Unplug the hotas gear and works ok with a controller. Dev if you care enough to respond I can help you with logs/feedback etc. Until this is fixed - dont recommend.
This game is an excellent "space shooter" type game, though most of the missions are planetary. Like sci fi action? This is a worthy title. Takes about 2.5 hours to beat in my experience. Very accessible once you realize some objectives light on fire and need additional shots before they explode into nothing. Replayability seems high because there are many ships and upgrades for each ship, as well as an option to carry upgrades to a new game. It also seems like there may be multiple endings because choices you make affect the dialogue/game. The mission scenery is amazing. You're getting a lot of different terrain to fly over. Sometimes it feels a little empty, but most flight games do. All of this praise said, I have to say the mission types are a bit bland. It boils down to "shoot and destroy everything" or "kill the objectives to win." It also suffers from a lack of radar or HUD (you have to press R to "find nearest target." So it's a game missing comforts we've had since perhaps the 90s or early 2000s, which can be jarring, but it still works well for what it is and most maps are not confusing in their layout/presentation. SPOILERS BELOW: If you cannot beat a mission where you are chasing objectives, you can fly up over the canyon wall to skip part of the canyon and end up in front of the objectives.
feels clunky and unpolished not even worth when 50% off it always starts my steam VR for no reason
