Basic Information
Title: Crowman & Wolfboy Developer: Wither Studios Publisher: Wither Studios, LLC Genre: 2D platformer/runner hybrid
General Impression
Crowman & Wolfboy is a very intriguing platform/runner hybrid which manages to pull off the best mechanics of both genres. The game has already proved to be a success on the mobile gaming segment and it is making a well deserved debut onto Steam. The noir retro futuristic backdrop proved to be a great choice and C&W stands out from the many indie platformers out there. I struggled to find any flaws to this game. I could only say that it’s rather short but then again, it is still in Early Access. It has quite a few collectibles and interesting character abilities, marking the game’s replayability potential. Topping it all off is the inclusion of both Cards & Achievements and we now have one of 2016’s best platformers, in my humble opinion.
Strong Points
+ Beautiful art style. + Well thought game mechanics and features. + Steam Trading Cards & Achievements.
Weak Points
- A bit short. Rating 9/10
This review was submitted for Imperial Reviews.
Like its title "Crowman & Wolfboy" two animals who fought against darkness when animals living in their own despair, when darkness tried to consume their sullen heart, but the these two best friends kept fighting, searching for hope, guided by the light to fight against the horror.
Crowman & Wolfboy
Crowman & Wolfboy is a side-scrolling and fast-paced platformer where you play as Crowman & Wolfboy, luckily there's no micromanagement in this game, only some abilities that unlocked as the game runs through. What I like from this game is the graphic, a bold, and dark comic style, made it so cool. Though the game has a great feature of gameplay, timing and vivacity are needed to keep these two best friends running from the deadly wave of darkness, I know it sounds sad but the art presents how desperate they are, which makes a sweet story. When I tried it at first time, I thought it was child's play, but levels are getting harder, and it also has progress for each level completion. You can wish to keep running, and end each level, but the enjoyment is aroused when you reveal each level's secret. You need to play it like repetitively (as if it sounds repetitive), but the game is still enjoyable and not boring, for example your wit is needed to solve and find a better way to get the orb of lights and get through the obstacles and sometimes you need to die to reveal the better path to get secrets. Anyway, some stages can be finished in single run (if you are skilled and aware of every hints). The other good feature from this game is the control, it's responding so fast as you press the key, you won't be missing a single action from your finger. The game can also be played with controller, but if you play with keyboard, you will notice that you can't change the key icons for keyboard, maybe developer will add this feature in the future, nevertheless some tutorials inform which key to press (eg. hold S to duck).
Conclusion
Crowman & Wolfboy is very nice game to spend time with, especially when you have a little brother who loves to play similar games, and it's great too if you want to avoid a violent game. However, there are some features missing like I mentioned before, also there is no feature to turn off the music/sound (if there is any, then I must be having difficulty to find it). It's worth it, because of the features and the game itself, and it's still in early access!
TL;DR
Gameplay:4.5/5 Graphics:5/5 Sounds:4.5/5 Control:5/5 Cons: Missing feature: Loadout (Last updated: 5:22PM,10/20/2016) Note: I found less bug in this game which is clean like my kitchen. This game is worth buying.
7.3 – Early, Elegant Platformer with Some Serious Potential! The game is a typical platform runner which some unique graphics and pretty fun gameplay. You take on the role of helping Crowman & Wolfboy escape the darkness that relentlessly follows in their wake. I typically don't like this type of game but the graphics and gameplay were both good enough to make me want to continue on playing for a bit. After a few minutes though, the monotony starts to set in and you will soon want to succumb to the darkness which you first avoided. I completed 15 levels in about 36 minutes; so you could easily complete the entire 30+ levels in around 1.5 hours flat! The price is right; but I would like to see some more content and features with this game. The game desperately needs settings such as sound and resolution; the only controls right now are for full screen. I'd pay $3.99 presuming the updates keep coming in. Purchase this only if you know that the game is not complete and will have more coming!

Accidently Reviewed
Was this review helpful or maybe even not helpful? Follow The Cpt Froggy Club Curator Page for plenty more!
Crowman & Wolfboy: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Dark Forest, better known as the World of Shadows is full of weird and evil creatures. Their favourite entertainment is to dance amongst each other and look as eerie as they can be. That’s what shadows do! Not far from where the crazy dance is taking place, two shadows are sitting down, looking at a mysterious picture with an inscription reading, “The Happiest Place on Earth!” In a heartbeat, they decide to make a run for this better place. It won’t be easy to escape the shadows; Good luck Crowman and Wolfboy! Crowman and Wolfboy is a platformer/ runner genre of game where you control the two creatures. Your goal is to reach the end of each level (thirty five in total) as fast as possible and without being caught by the shadows. The first level is a nice, easy tutorial. The first skills you’ll learn for Crowman will be to jump and flap in mid-air. Wolfboy’s first skill is is the ability to climb. Pick up as many white orbs (small or large) as possible on each level to repel the incoming wall of shadows who want you back. Actually, if the wall touches your characters, you’ll restart the level. There are three large orbs to collect per level as well as one baby to save. Later on in the game you will come across large black orbs - these one will activate the wall of shadows. It could be a good idea to avoid them but sometimes it won’t be possible. As you progress through the game, you’ll collect additional skills for the pair. On some occasions you’ll probably be thinking, “how on earth I am going to reach those orbs,” especially early on in the game. Don’t worry, you’ll be able to come back to previous stages and use the new skills to collect them, which will give you slightly more re-playability. At the start of some levels, you’ll receive a warning to find a beacon. When you find and activate these beacons, further information on the storyline will be revealed. There are plenty of obstacles to avoid in this game, and you can expect to die more than a few times. The main obstacle is the wall of shadows. However, you will also come up against saws, spikes, robots and falling rocks, as well as shadow monsters hiding in rubbish bins and other places. Other items, such as rubbish bags, will slow you down too; not fun when you have the wall on your butt! I personally really like the artwork, and the soundtrack is nice. Control-wise, they are responsive either with the keyboard or a gamepad. Personally, I prefer the gamepad. The game is pretty short, though. Positives: ~~~~~~~~ - Great artwork - Great controls and mechanisms - Achievements and trading cards Negatives: ~~~~~~~~ - Needed more levels A fun and fast platformer/runners game with great artwork. 7/10 Key provided by developer/publisher for review purposes. Apparently this is out of early access now, so I decided to give it a shot. It's a level-based platformer with some endless runner mechanics, where you need to move quickly and collect light orbs to keep the shadows from catching up with you. As you progress, you unlock more abilities like a double jump, dash, and slide to help you navigate the hazards you encounter. Each level has 3 optional objectives to complete, some of which require returning to the level after you unlock a new ability later on. Many of the later levels are non-linear and require choosing between which path to take to get the collectibles. It's a simple premise with enough variation to stand out a bit. However, despite being allegedly "complete," it... doesn't really feel like that's the case? Don't get me wrong, the gameplay, design, and graphics are cohesive and definitely passable (although the camera often has trouble keeping up with you when you fall, making hazards difficult to dodge), but it doesn't really seem like a full game. It ends very abruptly, with no satisfying end to what little story was presented. It almost feels like the game was intended to be longer but the devs just decided to call it quits halfway through. The price may be low, but to be honest I expect more than 30 or so levels, each a couple minutes long, from a game with mechanics this simple. It feels a lot like a flash portal game at this length, and I don't believe it meets its full potential- the existing levels do offer some decent variety, and I'd be interested to see what else the designer can come up with. If the game is indeed incomplete, and more content is added, I will change my rating, but for now I unfortunately have to give it a thumbs down at its current length and price.
Will scare little children. Very dark and edgy artwork. The gamplay is solid and the struggle is real. Wild animals trying to get to the big city because their friends are all a bunch of savages Our heroes believe that since humans have cities = we never hurt each other (boy are they in for a surprise) A classic crow & wolf out of water story.
Graphics are nice but the story is... well I'm not sure if it can actually be called a story, and there is no culmination, the game just ends. Controls sometimes do not work properly, the camera has problems with keeping up with the characters, most of the achievements do not work and the last level is ridiculously long and difficult - I think I spend half of my overall playtime trying to beat it. Save yourself frustration and avoid this game.
A challenging runner/platformer with an oddly endearing story: Two Furry creatures of Eternal Darkness, literally outrunning their past on a quest for happiness, possibly saving the world in the process. Unfortunately, a lot of the challenge is created by the unintuitive controls. Jump and Attack are bound to A and B (on a controller) respectively, but they're also bound to the D-Pad as well — if you're used to games that use both sides of a controller, you'll have to unlearn that. Also, the fact that the characters auto-run without holding down left or right wasn't immediately clear. Still recommend this one, though! Fantastic visuals, animation, and music. Definitely worth it! (EDIT: A lot of the earlier negative reviews were due to the game ONLY supporting gamepads initially, I think? They fixed that, you can use the keyboard)
