Bottom of the barrel trash. Not only it is a mobile game ported to PC, but it's a broken one at that. With wonky physics, badly implemented mechanics and graphical bugs everywhere. They didn't even bother to change the UI, you can still see the mobile buttons on the screen. And they want to charge $25 for this crap? Anyone that rated this positively is a bot paid by the devs, no doubt about it. Avoid like the plague.

So, I'm not super super far into the game. About 10% though or so. But to be blunt. I'm not specifically impressed. It DOES have it's good points. The controls are tight and responsive. I don't notice any significant input lag. The art style is nice. The sounds are a bit cheap, but not abrasive and are balanced well. But then the bad... Many of the hazards are borderline invisible. A black spike among black grass. What looks like could be a statue in a house with pots and gold/gems on it instantly kills you as soon as you try and collect them. I've found an enemy that walked on air and disappeared, as if it were meant to be in another spot and teleported when another enemy loaded in. And the primary attack of the game doesn't actually have an animation. It just fires from the character's chest. And by my progression, I think the whole game on a first playthrough could be done in 2-3 hours. Which isn't exactly a long time for a 25 dollar game. It isn't a 'bad' game. But it feels fairly unpolished, and I do think there are better games for the price tag.
卖相还行。 像手游暴力移植。 成吨的,且显而易见的BUG。 极端反人类的键位。 如果BUG全修完也许还行,但是我相信开发组不会修了。
关注我们 甄游组 第一印象 免费游戏
So, developed and published by Spacefarer Games Ltd this game give a feeling of an unfinished mobile game. With unfinished I'm not saying that it's bad. It's just the feeling I'm getting. The game is pretty linear if you'r not someone who rushes there shouldn't be any problems completing this game. It get repetitive some times and for me it's a game it can stay for a while and I'll look into it once a while, complete 1 or 2 levels and that move on. The art work is seems fine enough and all enemies are in black. You just have to look on what can kill you are not. Still there are some glitches where the char gets behind the " graphics" in "hidden areas" It seems that they've put a lot of time in physics since you'll notice the chars movement on some edges but still. There are times where it bugs a little bit. Overall, it seems like there was an attend to make ninja scroll and the developer will be able to do it sometime. Still a nice game for me. Ps: I'm not sure if the devs had the actual "Shimazu Clan" in mind when crating this game. First 20min Gameplay here
A simple action platformer. Despite some graphical issues and broken features, the stages are short and deliver a few hours of fun. For an action game, the controls are standard. The issue is that they do not work in certain situations. There will be no problems if you unplug your controller and solely play with a keyboard. When you plug in your gamepad, though, every button stops working. Even the UI is messed up since when you play with a keyboard, you get gamepad prompts. Your only traversal abilities are simple movement and a double jump. Despite carrying a sword, the primary assault is shuriken throwing. While a sword can be used to attack in a straight line, it has a very long cool down period, making it extremely limited. Both weapons can be upgraded with money and gems obtained by defeating enemies and destroying pots. Their upgrade is simple: faster sword cool down and critical rate for shurikens. The other two upgrades give you extra lives and a faster cool down for another useless ability - turning yourself into a stump. Because stages are relatively linear, you don't need much more. There are three areas, each with fifteen stages. The only difference between the areas is a different background. To unlock the next area, you must find the required amount of scrolls and complete all stages within a location. Each stage features three scrolls, which are usually directly on the route as you go through the stage, requiring no exploring. You also don't have to collect every scroll to complete the game. The stages are brief and straightforward. Despite the limited number of lives, you should have no issue because checkpoints are scattered throughout a stage. However, platforming is a necessary skill. Traps and items that kill you on touch litter the stages. The bomb was the one that killed me the most. This trap is occasionally hidden in a container that normally holds coins. Since the sword attack also works as dash, some stages become frustrating. Besides the cool down period after each use, the dash doesn’t tell you how you’re going to travel. Navigating several traps in a row with a dash usually ends in a game over screen. The artwork is interesting. While the world and enemies are black, everything else is colorful. However, there are inconsistencies. Some textures render the character completely or partially invisible. And I'm not talking about transparency. The half of the body is just gone. Unfortunately, this includes any walls or traps that may be hidden as a result of this issue. There are many situations in which you die without knowing why, hit an invisible wall, or fall through a floor that should be solid. Enemies are simple to defeat because they can only kill you if you get too close. The only ranged enemy appears to be bugged because it holds a gun but does nothing. Actually, there are a lot of missing options. World 2, for instance, has some inactive traps. And World 3 starts with a message that checkpoints are removed and you need to buy them yourself. But this also doesn't work because normal checkpoints are still there. Easy achievements for achievement hunters because you only need to finish all stages.
DISCLAIMER: This is a first impressions review, and NOT a full review

PLEASE NOTE: I recommended this game with some exceptions, overall if the game did not live up to just a tiny expectation, I would not have recommended it at all, so please read the review carefully if you are thinking of buying/playing this game
SHIMAZU is a game developed and published by Spacefarer Games Ltd The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nonetheless and ends just at the right time SHIMAZU overall, however, is a fun game to play, yet sometimes repetitive and it does get boring if being played for a long time, but is an okay-ish 2D platformer game to play in short bursts!
RECOMMENDED :)
REVIEW SOURCES:

None
This game is terrible. Not only it costs 25€ (I wouldn't reccomend it even if it was free, and I got it for free) it's also a bad mobile port full of ridiculous bugs, unifished parts and bad design choices. There's only ONE(1) enemy with animations excluding the final boss and half the enemies (it's not an exaggeration) have their AI broken and don't do anything (and the AI isn't precisely complex). There are multiple errors with the layers in this game who sometimes are in front of your character when it should be behind him or there are lethal objects who are indistinguishable from the non-lethal ones or are hidden so you can't see them. I believe that this game wasn't tested at all. Combined with all the said before and the featured AI art, it feels like a rushed failed student project. On the bright side, the final boss actually works, thing that genuinely surprised me since I was expecting another dead AI punching bag.
This game prices itself at 25 Euro but is worth maybe 2. Anything above that price can simply be considered a scam because you DO NOT get what you pay for. The game is basic, the animations are stiff or nonexistant. Most enemies are simply 2D cutouts that glide back and forth along ther surface with no move, attack or death animations. The game keeps reusing the same few areas over and over in the level layouts so everything feels the same and it doesn't feel like you are progressing anywhere. The keymapping is bad. Your moves (a dash, a ranged attack, a "hide"" are bound to X, A and L and cannot be changed. The "upgrades" you can spend gold on are boring and only consists of a lowered cooldown. I did a quick google and saw that the game was previously a "free to download" mobile game, which checks out, as most of those are just scams. And you can tell as it allows you to pay gold for more lives when you die. clearly a leftover version from the mobile game where you would have to pay real money to continue once you died. In any case the game is incredibly lackluster and if you want good 2D ninja platformers there are already others out there that are millions of times better than this.
SHIMAZU HD: Silent Requiem is a dark and punishing side-scrolling action platformer developed and published by Spacefarer Games Ltd that combines samurai combat, precision platforming, and grim fantasy storytelling into a demanding old-school experience. The game places players in the role of Shimazu, a warrior forced to confront a cursed world after tragedy destroys his family and a demonic force returns to threaten everything he once protected. From its opening moments, the game establishes an atmosphere built around despair, vengeance, and survival. Unlike many modern action games that prioritize cinematic spectacle and accessibility, SHIMAZU HD focuses almost entirely on mechanical challenge, environmental danger, and repeated mastery through failure. It is a game that expects patience and persistence from its players, rewarding careful observation and precision while punishing recklessness at nearly every opportunity. The strongest aspect of SHIMAZU HD is easily its atmosphere. The world feels oppressive, hostile, and consistently dangerous in a way that immediately pulls players into its dark fantasy setting. The HD remaster improves the visual presentation significantly, giving environments sharper detail and stronger lighting while still maintaining the grim tone that defines the experience. Ruined temples, haunted forests, underground caverns, and abandoned villages all contribute to a world that feels cursed and decayed. The game’s art direction successfully blends traditional Japanese influences with dark fantasy aesthetics, creating environments that are visually striking despite the relatively simple side-scrolling structure. Every location feels intentionally designed to reinforce tension, making exploration feel dangerous even before enemies appear on screen. The gameplay revolves around navigating deadly stages filled with traps, enemy ambushes, environmental hazards, and difficult platforming sequences. Precision is absolutely essential because nearly every mistake carries severe consequences. Spikes, collapsing floors, rotating hazards, hidden traps, and sudden enemy attacks constantly threaten the player, forcing careful movement and deliberate timing. The game relies heavily on old-school design philosophy where memorization becomes just as important as mechanical skill. Many sections require players to fail repeatedly while learning enemy placement and environmental dangers before eventually succeeding through familiarity and practice. This structure creates a satisfying sense of accomplishment whenever difficult areas are finally cleared, but it also makes the experience far less forgiving than most modern platformers. Combat mechanics remain relatively simple, but the game uses that simplicity effectively. Shimazu primarily fights using his katana, delivering fast melee strikes capable of eliminating enemies quickly if timed correctly. Additional abilities such as ranged shuriken attacks and dashing maneuvers help expand combat options slightly without overcomplicating the gameplay. The disappear ability also introduces moments where players can reposition strategically or avoid particularly dangerous situations. Combat encounters often occur within hazardous environments, meaning players must simultaneously manage enemy attacks and environmental threats. This combination creates a constant feeling of tension because battles rarely happen in completely safe areas. Every encounter feels dangerous, especially since enemies hit hard and mistakes can result in immediate death. One of the game’s more unique features is its customizable checkpoint system. Instead of relying solely on predetermined save locations, players can strategically place checkpoints during progression. This mechanic introduces an additional layer of planning because choosing the right location to preserve progress can dramatically affect later attempts. In a game built around repeated failure, this system provides just enough flexibility to reduce frustration without eliminating the challenge entirely. It creates moments where preparation and resource management become almost as important as platforming skill. Combined with upgrade systems that allow players to improve survivability and abilities, the game manages to maintain a rewarding progression loop despite its harsh difficulty curve. The sound design contributes heavily to the overall experience. The soundtrack uses dark orchestral themes and atmospheric compositions that constantly reinforce the game’s grim tone. Music often intensifies during difficult encounters, creating additional pressure during already tense situations. Environmental sound effects also play an important role, with sword clashes, trap activations, enemy screams, and ambient noises adding weight to every action. Together, the visuals and audio create a world that feels bleak and dangerous from beginning to end. There is very little sense of safety anywhere in the game, and that constant tension becomes one of the experience’s defining qualities. However, SHIMAZU HD is also a game that can become extremely frustrating, especially for players unfamiliar with older arcade-style platformers. The difficulty occasionally feels intentionally cruel rather than simply challenging. Some traps are placed specifically to surprise first-time players, leading to unavoidable deaths that feel more like punishment for lacking prior knowledge than failures of skill. Memorization is often mandatory, particularly during later stages where hazards appear rapidly and checkpoints become more valuable. While this style of design will appeal to hardcore players who enjoy trial-and-error progression, others may quickly become exhausted by the constant repetition and unforgiving structure. The controls are generally responsive, but there are moments where movement and collision detection feel slightly inconsistent during fast-paced sequences. Since the game demands such precise timing, even minor mechanical issues become more noticeable. Certain jumps near hazards can feel awkward due to collision behavior, and combat occasionally becomes chaotic when multiple enemies attack within confined spaces. The camera remains mostly functional because of the side-scrolling perspective, but some environmental elements can still obscure hazards during intense moments. These technical imperfections do not completely ruin the experience, but they occasionally interrupt the otherwise satisfying gameplay flow. Another weakness is the limited gameplay evolution throughout the adventure. Although new environments and enemy types appear over time, the overall structure changes very little from beginning to end. Players spend most of the game platforming through dangerous stages, avoiding traps, and fighting enemies using largely the same abilities introduced early on. While the consistency reinforces the game’s focused design philosophy, it can also make longer sessions feel repetitive. Players looking for dramatic gameplay shifts or deeper combat systems may eventually feel that the experience lacks variety. SHIMAZU HD: Silent Requiem is ultimately a demanding but rewarding side-scrolling action game that combines stylish presentation, brutal platforming, and intense combat into a memorable retro-inspired experience. Its unforgiving difficulty and repetitive structure will likely alienate some players, but fans of precision platformers and dark fantasy action games will appreciate the challenge, atmosphere, and satisfying sense of progression hidden beneath its relentless exterior.
