The boss artwork and animation in the game is impressive. Unfortunately, that's literally the only thing good about the game. Otherwise, it feels like a tech demo that COULD be a game, as it only has you fighting bosses in nigh-identical arenas without a hint of story and a single track of incredibly repetitive, basic music that is much too primitive to fit the game. A lack of decent controls is also a problem, namely, you cannot jump to avoid projectiles or attacks and are limited to blocking. However, there's no special gimmick to make this interesting; it simply feels like an omission. Once you figure out the pattern, you repeat it ad nauseam until you win. Bosses don't have health bars, adding to the tedium. The game lacks an ingame menu of any kind, and a sidescroller that only partially supports controllers is a bridge too far. The game could have been something great with a bit more programming effort, even the most threadbare of stories, and a solid OST, but, as it is, it's simply not even worth the low price it sells for. It's a tech demo and nothing more, and when there are free games like Cave Story, a bit more effort is required. If you've seen the trailer for the game, you have already seen most of what it has to offer.
