Reviews
This game is worth the $2.99 price tag. The still pictures are pretty and the text well written. I'm not sure it's possible to lose or get killed in this story, but I'm enjoying the tale nonetheless. There are some instances where the protagonist powers up, but this seems somewhat nonsensical, as it's not clean one can lose/die. There is some bad language and violence, but it's not excessive. Again, it's an enjoyable tale, but not really a game.
Shadows Over Harken delivers an engaging narrative led by Relic and his companions. The story is actually based on a real D&D campaign, which gives the world a great sense of history. The soundtrack is excellent and adds significantly to the atmosphere. While the graphics are AI-generated, they are well-executed and visually consistent throughout. One area for improvement is the combat. It uses a JRPG-style menu system, but it feels more like a simulation than a strategic challenge, as the outcomes feel largely predetermined. I would have preferred either more depth in the strategy or, alternatively, more 'comic-book style' sequences to heighten the immersion during these scenes. It runs perfectly on the Steam Deck, even at the low TDP. Thank you for the adventure!
