An historic recreation of this battle. This is a game that a grognard can really sink his teeth into.
Brilliant game with good AI. Lots of fun, battles come down to the wire.
It a great game
Fun and easy to get into. A nice change of pace to play a war game set in the Pacific theater. I love the board game aesthetics.
An excellent game. It demonstrates just how hard fought these battles were. The limitations of terrain restrict overwhelming strength from being applied easily, particularly in harsh terrain like Peleliu, Saipan and Iwo Jima, Tinian is probably the "easiest" battle. Tarawa is a race against time. In all battles the loss rate for the marines dictates the pace of operations, and the VP loss for destroyed marine units means that you have to be very careful with their lives. The problem is that they have a lot to do to achieve victory, and you can't win this game without paying for it in blood. The Japanese in all these battles are basically doomed and it is for them to make the US player pay a grisly price. The card system adds a lot of flexibility and local colour to the game. Recommended. The downside is generally minor. Some translation issues, some units represented with the wrong icon, like machine gun units resented by AT guns/artillery. This should have been picked up in the beta test, but maybe it will be addressed in a future patch. SGS is often pretty good on patching issues. The game did CTD on a few occasions, but not frequently. In any event the worst case scenario was remedied by a reload from the autosave.
Its a challenge but I learned how to edit JSON files to make it better. But it cheats to high heaven. Dare you to play Tarawa as USMC and get a win. Japanese units get regenerated...bogus question mark counter for units to soak up your airpower (they show up late in the game). I counted at least 5 Japanese SLF counters. You pound the crap out of them....even when they sneak in the surf. They come back from the dead! Don't get me started on Japanese fighters and bombers showing up from the airfield in Tarawa. I edited that out of the Unit JSON file along with tons of other stuff. Most of my time in game is to check edits I made.
