About

Bloodthirsty hordes of demons, criminals, clowns, and undead have flooded the streets of the once semi-relevant metropolis. The pantheon of the most famous and charming superheroes are dead or AWOL. Who's left? Well, uh… you guys are. Pick a 'hero' and fight to save Mayor McTrinkle and the, like, two untouched buildings left in the city. You know the drill: step up to the plate for once in your life, pick a sidekick, improve your super-hero game, and survive at least until one of the other Second Rates wakes up at noon and takes over your shift. Keep it up and maybe you'll get your own comic one day... if there was anyone left to write it. With intricate, interwoven and deep gameplay, crazy weapon combos, 20 heroes, 4 sidekicks, 4 levels, 3 difficulties, more than 400 upgrade cards, 82 permanent upgrades, and sweet, sweet hand drawn art – you’ll die over and over from anything but boredom. Ain’t nothing wholesome here: be prepared for a heart pounding urban adventure that juices up the action roguelike genre.

A new twist on the genre, giving you a Taunt mechanic and the use of Turrets to defend the Mayor, rather than just yourself.
Choose from 20 heroes (16 of which are unlockable), each of which plays entirely different.
Choose from 5 different sidekicks / unpaid interns with different bonuses - provided they stick around.
20 minute anxiety inducing runs which can be made even harder with certain in-game cards or purchasable bonuses.
Combine 18 Core weapons, 12 Rare weapons, 4 Superweapons, and 4 Side weapons at your fancy.
Over 400 ‘cards’ to choose from, in multiple rarities.
Metaprogression in the form of 84 permanent upgrade points, plus purchasable one-time items, to turn your Second Rates into eventual First Rates.
86 unlockable weapons, cards, lore and even music.
4 different stages in 3 different difficulties.
18 heart-pounding musical tracks
Hours upon hours of frustration, challenge, and heart-pounding fun.
100% original hand drawn art.

Potential Future Roadmap:
New Stages.
New Unlocks.
Multiple new heroes that must be unlocked with late game achievements.
New weapons.

good on deck. slow getting money for upgrades.
Good game for the price. I'm dogwater at it for some reason, but it pisses me off enough that I keep going and keep trying. I do recommend it. $5 is a steal
Finally i can play as a lazy, deadbeat and unknown hero in the "The Boys" universe
You got all the "classic" "heroes" at your disposal like Sewergirl, Miss Noxious, Bangkok Blaze and many more and only one mission: Protect the mayor at all costs (the cost being mostly your sidekick diying in a gruesome way) from a horde of demons, undead, clowns, assasins, criminals and way more weird things coming from somewhere with the help of your trusty bullet spewing AI outsourced turrets and powers/guns that you scrounged in your 20 minute run. Is it chaotic? Yes. Is it fun? A LOT. Just try the demo and the comeback to buy more survivor-like goodness. 10 out of 10. Maybe Batman doesn't kill but The Magpie sure does.
the game suddenly crashed while picking abilities and can't pick up your progress after restarting the game, make me waste money on 1 time buff, no cloud save, no speed up option, lack many QoL
Check the forums, the dev constantly updates and works on the game / listens and responds to customers.
Second Rate Superheroes tries to spice the genre up with some extra firepower and charming visuals, if you're a fan of survivor game you won't be dissapointed.
nope, tried a couple of times
nice
Great game. Slow progression(which I like). Great art and characters. Just a super fun, superhero vibe. Still playing. Still awesome!
Love the survivors genre, but this game is missing the fun for me. Not really a fan of the tower defense aspect, protect the mayor. I was drawn in by the title and the art style, but the gameplay feels very grindy, even for a survivors-likes. Now, I don't mind the grind if the minute-to-minute gameplay is fun, but I don't feel it here. The early weapons and abilites lack punch and the sound design is minimal and lacks a dynamic "superhero" feel. It all comes off a bit small and dull. On the plus side, there are frequent updates; however, they are all smaller hot fixes that don't do much to change the overall feel and direction of the game. I will likely leave this game here and continue on with Vampire Survivors, Halls of Torment, Soulstone Survivors, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, Greedland, and Yet Another Zombies Survivors.
