About
Trumpets in bottoms, horses with human faces, great gilded lettering framed by angels and lilies - nobody has vision like a medieval artist. Hey, that's you! Welcome to your very own illuminated manuscript workshop, the Scriptorium - a cozy, relaxing creative space with no timers and no pressure.
Create your own character in Story Mode, and take commissions from prestigious patrons in a kingdom overflowing with gossip. Illustrate battles and romances, decorate love letters and blackmail notes, design maps, masquerade balls, or, *cough*, bizarre artworks. With every request, you will help shape a royal drama that must be seen to be believed.
Prefer pure creativity? In Sandbox Mode, Scriptorium becomes your medieval “Canva”. Blank parchment, the entire library of medieval assets, and no clients or commissions - just you and your boundless imagination!

The composition screen is the creative heart of Scriptorium, where you decide how you want your masterpiece to look. Choose from light and dark parchments in many shapes and sizes, then drag and drop design elements directly onto your canvas. Work with a rich library of 1000+ pictures based on real medieval art - from beasts and bugs to princes and paupers, faces and butts, clothing, expressions, vegetation, oddments and decorative marginalia. Add text using medieval fonts adorned with ornate uppercase letters to complete your illuminated pages.

A colorful cast of clients brings you requests of all kinds - grand battles between snails and knights, wholesome scenes of peace, love, and the plague... and those aren't even the weird ones. But the customer is always right! Your job is to be creative and have fun as you fulfill their wishes in your own style. Spread your art across the kingdom and become celebrated by bards and historians for centuries to come.

Turn your Scriptorium into the coziest workshop in the kingdom. Spend your earnings to decorate your space with furniture, lighting, tapestries, flowers, windows, columns, and carpets - then make it truly yours with a pet companion by your side, from a purring cat to a loyal dog, or even a tiny dragon. Home is where the art is!

Our imaginative players have embraced Scriptorium's potential by creating:
Letters and invitations
Decorated song lyrics and illustrated quotes
Tarot cards
Cute stickers
Coloring pages to print
Desktop wallpapers
Fantasy maps
Props and handouts for tabletop RPG sessions
Medieval recreations of games, movies, and pop culture moments
And memes, of course!
Scriptorium is built for sharing. Save your work to your gallery, then export it as a PNG optimized for printing and social sharing. Show it to the world, or keep it forever as your own little masterpiece.

Massively FUN!!! Best game I've played in ages - feels like a puzzle game for Artists. Totally putting my fine arts degree and my wild imagination into each task. The Grandfather Mouse's Tale and The Latrine Family are just not to be missed. If you don't want to go way above and beyond then it would not feel fun. At 73 hours I'm about half done maybe. I try to make each one funny - If I've made myself laugh on top of the laughs from the quests lines then I will submit my entry. I always do all the basic and beyond tasks as well. My only wish would be to let us have more palette paint spaces - I want to get all the bought only colors as well as keep a lot of the ones you must mix yourself; 10 is too limiting. In sandbox you can see the whole vast selection of colors but the real fun is playing the campaign. Of course I picked the ex-nun who is a cat lady for my character :D
This game is peak art. Made rabbits frolicking for a little kid. And a battle scene for an errant knight. Among other whimsical things. I haven't had this fun since the Norman conquests! 10/10

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I loved the art style of Pentiment, and the artwork in this game is phenomenal as well. But to be honest, this just felt like a virtual sticker book rather than a game. In the story mode, you get requests from patrons to create an artwork that fits their theme, but after the first few, it actually felt like I was working, like a chore, not playing a game. Most of the illustrations are locked when you first start, which I guess is to make progression more fulfilling, but it felt like an inconvenience more than something exciting to work on. The illustrations are all listed under categories and don't have individual labels, which was also annoying, because I had no idea what I was looking at with some of them. And although there are a lot of illustrations, the collection still felt pretty limited when working in free mode. Wouldn't recommend unless you are decorator by blood and every corner of your animal crossing island is already decorated.
Lovely game, and useful too for making medieval themed documents for TTRPGs and LARPs :)
Who knew I was missing a making funny pictures with exceptionally angry and suspicious looking medieval cats scribe simulator?
If you are someone who has an interest in anything related to the medieval ages, especially the art style and illuminated texts, this is for you. A very cosy game one can spend hours on; either following the storyline or making your own designs in the sandbox.
