Your aunt’s dead, your cousin hates you, and you’re stuck in the dead-end town of Scarlet Hollow. Choose your path through a branching narrative so dense that you'll see less than 1/5 of the game on a single playthrough. You won't be able to save everyone. Good luck, and welcome home.

About
From the developers of Slay the Princess, Scarlet Hollow is an immersive horror-mystery with sharp writing, impactful choices, and meticulously hand-drawn art.

Coal mines sealed off after a deadly collapse. Strange creatures preying on livestock. Houses infested with vengeful spirits. The sleepy town of Scarlet Hollow has suddenly come alive with horrors, just in time for your arrival. This was supposed to be a quiet getaway in the rural mountains of North Carolina. All you had to do was finally meet your long-lost cousin and comfort her through her mother’s funeral. But now, each new day welcomes new nightmares.
You only have to survive a week. But can you get to the bottom of the horrifying mysteries haunting Scarlet Hollow before they claim your life?
The first five episodes are available now, with one major content update planned before the story reaches its conclusion.
Features
A heavily branching narrative where your decisions (actually) matter. The relationships you forge and the decisions you make will dramatically alter your journey.
A complex paranormal mystery. Investigate haunted houses, strange sightings in the woods, a deteriorating mine, and more as you try and piece together what happened in Scarlet Hollow.
Trait-based dialogue and role-playing. Scarlet Hollow's dialogue system is driven by role-playing elements that let you choose who you want to be. Are you quiet and observant? Hot and clueless? Can you talk to animals? 21 different character builds change how you interact with the world and how your story unfolds.
A dynamic relationship system that reacts to your every choice and changes how your story unfolds. People won't just like or dislike you. Become friendly rivals, bitter adversaries, best friends, or mild acquaintances with everyone in town based on how you approach the story.
Original monster designs inspired by Appalachian myths and cryptids.
No jumpscares. All of the horror in Scarlet Hollow comes from dread, tension, and a sprinkle of disturbing imagery.
A touch of romance. Whether you're into goths, dads, moms, paranormal investigators, mysterious recluses, or actual monsters, you'll find something waiting for you here. And if you'd rather avoid that entirely, your story won't be any less for it.
Hundreds of meticulously hand-drawn and traditionally inked backgrounds. Every background in the game is hand drawn and inked by Ignatz-winning graphic novelist Abby Howard.
Fully immersive art. Each major character has dozens—and often hundreds—of hand-drawn sprites that interact with backgrounds and capture a full range of lighting, emotion, environment, and outfit changes.

the best visual novel i have ever played
Great game in it's genre! Rich and detailed story-telling with lots of choices to make, whenever I finish a chapter I'm always craving more. Big ups to the devs, who by the way, also made Slay the Princess, another phenomenal masterpiece! Stay safe, take care, love!
i have too little patience to replay most games, when there is so much good stuff coming out all the time this was an instant replay, i had to see more, and it rewarded it well with the variance from one playthrough to the next when its done ill be back for sure

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Scarlet Hollow easily—and quickly—became one of my favorite games of all time. I have played narrative-driven, your-choices-matter games since I was a teen and it's one of my favorite genres, but SH completely knocks it out of the park. Without taking into account that Tabitha is one of the best-written and most compelling character of all time and that all roads lead to Tabbymaxxing, Scarlet Hollow, like all games in this genre, tells you that your choices matter. You've played Life is Strange, you've played Telltale's The Walking Dead. Hell, even Dragon Age or Mass Effect (the latter being my favorite game of all time). You're skeptical going in, you already know how these games work. The consequences of your actions carry weight, yes, but only to a certain degree. It's too complicated to keep track of so many branches. It's then that you jump into Scarlet Hollow and realize that whatever you thought of its gimmick going in, it's nothing like what you thought. You play through the game several times, trying out different traits (or even the same ones), and realize just how much *content* and branching paths and decisions and relationship dynamics and different ways you can piss your cousin off there are, and you have to come to terms with the fact that you will probably never see all of it. But it's all there, and all it does is make you keep going in for more. The story is gripping (who doesn't love a horror mystery in a small Southern town?), the characters are flawed and real, your choices *actually* matter and have *actual* consequences (yes, even deciding whether to take a shower or not), and without taking into account how much I love Tabitha and how she's the best cousin of all time, you can also romance an eldritch horror in all its monster-loving glory. I love this game. I love Scarlet Hollow and how messed up it is. I love Tabitha in every timeline. As of my review, chapters 6 and 7 aren't out yet, but just get this game already. Play it. There is so much you can explore in this game and every little detail is as well-written and intentional as the last. You won't regret it.
This is the best game of this genre I have ever seen. I love the story and characters, and every choice you make actually matters and leads to very different outcomes. I wish more games would be more similar to this one. While not a deal breaker, there are a few thing I wish it had: - Multiple languages translation - Voice acting - Some kind of branch map like in !Detroit: become human! In any case, I already played this game multiple times and every time there is something new to see. I can't wait for the final chapters to be available.
ok redoing review post chapter 5: it's so peak. please get this. the dark souls of visual novels with shockingly good historical fiction folk horror
one of the best horror/mystery/cryptid visual novels worth every buck
