About

After a car accident, you wake up in a gloomy asylum with your head wrapped in bandages. Many questions remain, but the most important one to solve is: what are you doing here?

Sanitarium features a plot intricate set in an intense dark world where a very thin line separates senses from madness. There are many riddles to solve throughout this immersive and captivating adventure that will make your head spin with terror.
Even now, Sanitarium is a masterwork suitable for point-and-click beginners, confirmed or riddle-solving experts who enjoy.

Reviews
This game is great! Gave me goosebumps throughout and I stayed invested in what would happen next in the story. If you are a fan of games like Harvester or Phantasmagoria then this one is a must! Best played around Halloween for it's atmosphere and setting.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Sanitarium is still one of the most unique point-and-click adventures I’ve ever played, and revisiting it on Steam after watching some of my friends playing it back in the day just reinforces how ahead of its time it felt. What immediately stands out is the atmosphere. It’s surreal, unsettling, and constantly shifting in tone in a way that keeps you slightly off balance the entire time. One moment you’re dealing with dark, grounded psychological horror, and the next you’re thrown into bizarre, dreamlike worlds that feel almost symbolic rather than literal. That constant uncertainty is what makes it stick. The storytelling is easily its strongest point. Instead of relying on straightforward exposition, it unfolds like a fragmented psychological journey, and it really pulls you into trying to piece together what’s actually real. Even now, the narrative has a way of lingering in your head long after you stop playing. The puzzles are classic adventure game design: sometimes clever, sometimes a bit obscure, but always tied into the world in a way that feels intentional rather than random. There’s a real satisfaction in figuring things out, especially when you realize how deeply the game ties its mechanics to its themes. Visually, it still has a distinct identity. The pre-rendered backgrounds and character designs give it a grim, almost painterly quality that fits the unsettling tone perfectly. It’s not about realism, it’s about mood, and it nails that completely. It’s not a fast-paced game, and it definitely requires patience, especially by modern standards. Some puzzles can be trial-and-error heavy, and the pacing is deliberately slow. But that slower rhythm actually works in its favor, letting the atmosphere really sink in. Sanitarium isn’t just a point-and-click adventure, it’s a psychological experience. Even years later, it still feels bold, strange, and unforgettable in a way very few games manage to replicate.

Good puzzle game, great story, frustrating movement controls
This ♥♥♥♥ dont run on my modernized system im goin to gog it crazy style!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It is surely a game of its time. No tutorials,no hints, no *anything* Overall it is a pretty good game. The story is a solid 8/10. I loved the art style. I overall enjoyed the game. The only bad thing about it is that in many cases you *will not* be able to distinguish the items and interactive objects with the non items/interactive. The only hint is that the cursor will change. This does not sound that bad on paper but when we take into consideration that the Chapter maps are pretty big and that the objects are literally tiny it is not that pleasant experience. Generally an amazing game and in terms of story it would make an exceptional movie
I recommend playing the game with a lot of patience and and an active motivation of challenging oneself as the game certainly has not been too kind over the years with its janky character movements and FMVs. For me, I view it as a brief respite from the fast-paced gaming experience that we have today. Even so, I was personally accustomed to this game's charm earlier on due to my experiences with playing old LucasArts games (DotT, Full Throttle and Grim Fandango, etc.). Therefore, one's experiences with the game may differ from mine. Moreover, I can safely say that some of the puzzles in this game seems child's play to understand compared to LucasArts' wide library of moon logic puzzles during their heyday. Other than that, I'm a huge lover of pre-rendered backgrounds like the ones from the OG Final Fantasy VII and the DKC Trilogy so some of the games assets just amplifies its horror and "jank-ness" with its story that it's trying to tell. But hey, one opinion is different from the others, I guess.....
Un clásico. Obra maestra.
