9/10
Sanitarium is still one of the most unique point-and-click adventures I’ve ever played, and revisiting it on Steam after watching some of my friends playing it back in the day just reinforces how ahead of its time it felt. What immediately stands out is the atmosphere. It’s surreal, unsettling, and constantly shifting in tone in a way that keeps you slightly off balance the entire time. One moment you’re dealing with dark, grounded psychological horror, and the next you’re thrown into bizarre, dreamlike worlds that feel almost symbolic rather than literal. That constant uncertainty is what makes it stick. The storytelling is easily its strongest point. Instead of relying on straightforward exposition, it unfolds like a fragmented psychological journey, and it really pulls you into trying to piece together what’s actually real. Even now, the narrative has a way of lingering in your head long after you stop playing. The puzzles are classic adventure game design: sometimes clever, sometimes a bit obscure, but always tied into the world in a way that feels intentional rather than random. There’s a real satisfaction in figuring things out, especially when you realize how deeply the game ties its mechanics to its themes. Visually, it still has a distinct identity. The pre-rendered backgrounds and character designs give it a grim, almost painterly quality that fits the unsettling tone perfectly. It’s not about realism, it’s about mood, and it nails that completely. It’s not a fast-paced game, and it definitely requires patience, especially by modern standards. Some puzzles can be trial-and-error heavy, and the pacing is deliberately slow. But that slower rhythm actually works in its favor, letting the atmosphere really sink in. Sanitarium isn’t just a point-and-click adventure, it’s a psychological experience. Even years later, it still feels bold, strange, and unforgettable in a way very few games manage to replicate.
Un clásico. Obra maestra.
Um clássico do PC com uma vibe meio Silent Hill, uma história completamente fora da caixa e cenários surpreendentes. Vale demais. 10/10
This game is great! Gave me goosebumps throughout and I stayed invested in what would happen next in the story. If you are a fan of games like Harvester or Phantasmagoria then this one is a must! Best played around Halloween for it's atmosphere and setting.
What a peculiar little gem! Really enjoyed the unexpected twists the story and took :)
old but gold lovecraftian horror ! love it!
Point and click to chulo y muy perturbador
