This game was fun and cool. My favorite part was the innuendo talk . . . PRETTY MUCH the innuendo talk -- because it sets the proper mood for gameplay and mindset >D >D Anyone who enjoys a good old 8 bit platformer would enjoy this. If any of the developers feel like it, I think it would be cool with the 8 bit style music too.
Nice hidden gem of a game. samurai_jazz is a retro 2D style game, that combines item collecting, puzzles and simple sword fighting into one small nice game. You play as samurai, who goes out to this noir style city. You'll go through five story chapters, where you try to get to the next city section. Final part being in Japanese castle. Story is written in these pieces of dialog, that you can read from different NPCs. Also there's clues around the area, that gives you some sample of this world. So one part of the fun in this game is doing some detective work with game's lore. Gameplay is simple and works well. fighting is about carefully taking out enemies. There's no jumping here, just blocking or dodging. Enemies are simple and die in one hit, but you can't take hit as well. So patience is the key. Other thing in this game is puzzles and item transporting. For example one guy wants cigarettes, so you look for this other guy, that gives you these cigarettes. Pretty simple. Puzzles are mostly button pressing and finding keys. However they can be little challenging. Biggest thing about this game is the atmosphere. Game looks nice. Old school pixels graphics with this unique mix of film noir and samurai flick. Music is relaxing jazz, that sets the tone of this game's world well. Also game's areas are pretty fun to explore. So this game is really good source for fan art & stuff. If I have to give something negative about this game is that it demands good patience. Sometimes exploration can feel boring and getting stuck in some section can be annoying. Your not getting heavily punished for failing, but the slow feel can still make things more painful than they are. Also game is short, so if you are looking for big games with much content, this isn't it. So samurai_jazz isn't for every one, BUT this is a pretty good experience as a game and it's also working & playing well.

Even though I recommend this game, I must admit it's not an easy sell. First of all, the game is indeed charming thanks to an audiovisual retro shape and colors that match the jazzy soundtrack. The game itself, however, is hard in a way that seems more like cheating. As a guy who can only walk and slash, you must be really careful and precise regarding your actions, just like in an old-school NES Double Dragon or Final Fight game. However, not only is this game old-school simple and hard, it's also devoid of visual cues and an interface elements that could help you understand the game's state, where you can go to, and avoid mistakes. For example, whenever you reach a door or edge of the screen, you may end up in another area. However, it's never clear which doors are open or closed and which edges connect to some other area. Additionally, you may end up in another region simply by slightly hitting a door while fighting. It would've been better to just have a button to open a door when available. Similarly, it's not clear which items you can interact with, and they don't seem to improve the game that much. One might argue that all this is deliberate, but I don't think it plays to the game's advantage. It just makes things confusing. Also, some bugs occur randomly that allow you go to outside the borders of the stage or paralyze enemies. I'm ok with the difficulty since each area is a checkpoint, and it's not a bad concept. However, most of the time I overcame a challenge I felt more like luck rather than skill, either because an enemy moved differently from last time or because of some bug. Still, I must say I'm glad I played it. The game's definitely unique and charming, and it's not expensive. And the music's amazing!
Good game
NOTA: 4/10
A flawed but enjoyable retro style puzzle-brawler. I had control issues that hempered my experience, but otherwise it was decent. Grab it on sale if you are interested.
GUD GAME
It's a good game. It's really cheap. It helps pass time on a bus or when you're bored. It's a bit challenging (I only played on normal mode).
someone i once considered a friend bought this as a gift for my birthday.
As much as I want to support Indie devs, I just don't know who I would recommend this to. The game just doesn't have anything inventive or even especially intuitive going on. You can see the contours of a greater vision here, but only that. This is clearly meant to be more of a proof of concept than a complete title, and to be fair, it is priced as such. But, it's too rough. Too unfinished. Too unrealized.
