I won this game, so got it without spending anything for it. Still, I'm trying to take it's price into consideration. The game is about Sam Glyph, a private inspector, who's having problems with getting cases in the past months. Typical noir scene: private eye, whiskey, cigarette, rasping voice. Then suddenly the phone rings - murder. Finally something happens! Well, I don't want to spoiler the upcoming ~ 5 minute of the game... yes, you head me right. If you just got lucky and do what the game thinks you'll do, the story won't last more than 5 minutes from this point. If you take your time and look around, maybe 15 minutes. Opinion about the game: I love noir themed films and games, and this one looked promising. So it must be stated: the game is in a noir environment, but the game ISN'T proper noir, and this is one of it's serious weaknesses. It tries to be funny. Like 10-year-old-boy funny. D!ck, @$$, p!ss mentioned, some lousy jokes about raiding a dead man's fridge is maybe punishable by law " but it's pretty hard to prove though" and then A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TROLLFACE POPS UP. Later there is a clear "Science, ♥♥♥♥♥!" meme reference while confetti showers. Damn, I feel like this game just created the noir settings to have something that it can completely destroy. positives: -(wannabe) Noir setting -Great music Negatives: -Atmosphere destoyed by pre-teen humour (Trollface, Science, ♥♥♥♥♥!, confetti, even a " O_O " in subtitles) - Game seems rushed/ made without paying attention. Charater doesn't cast a shadow on toilet's door. Describes two people as sitting in the corner while they are in the middle booth of the 3. Also there is an animation of a police badge between scenes. It's terrible. They used a relatively small object and just animated/magnified it for the "coming closer" effect, and it became incredibly pixelish. (It's not the "cool" pixel graphics. This is just over-magnified.) - This game has absolutely no menu. You can choose: continue or exit. - You also can not skip cinematic parts. This also means that in the end of episode one you're forced to see a man taking a piss in first person. Even though I hoped for a good game, this just won't make it. Maybe the upcoming episodes will be longer or more reasoned, I'll try them as well, although I would be surprised if there would be improvement. Currently the 15€ game costs 4.49€ (-70%) , and includes season one pass (... there would be more than one season?). There will be at least 4 episodes - if each of them will be 15 minute long, you could get much more from a cinema ticket. Both in terms of quality and quantity. The full 15€ price is just purely outrageous. I suggest you never buying this game, not even on a sale, unless -90% and you really feeling like throwing away your money.
abandoned early access game- don't buy
DO NOT BUY luckily i got this on a sale as i thought it looked interesting, but what you get is 10-15 minuttes of gameplay with the promise of new episodes coming. I've been waiting for quite a while now and it seems that nothing is really happening, and the dev does not answer the forums anymore (98 days since last login). If you google the company's history you will find that they have previously released games which have never been finished. It smells like a scam, especially after i found this article on one of the guys that work there: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1094973/Musician-barred-selling-soul-eBay.html
Don't buy this game. The dev has abandoned it and it is extremely short. Also the achievements are broken.
THIS REVIEW IS A WORK IN PROGRESS. I WILL UPDATE IT IF THE OTHER EPISODES COME OUT. But if they dont this is getting a negative review. Sam Glyph is a an adventure game where we play as Sam. He is a detective who is out of work but one day he gets a job offer he cant refuse. After that he is pulled back into the game after a failed assasination attempt. So how is Sam Glyph ? I really like the first episode and its shows alot of promise for the game but theres a bunch of negatives i want to talk about right now. The game has bugged achievements so if youre a completionist just skip this one. But be carefull cause this game might be a scam. The devs of this game promised the next episode to be huge as it was in development for almost a year now. The dev in october stated that the second episode would be out before christmas. But the dev went silent for over 100 days and there is no updates for the game so i think this might be a scam. To get this game just for the first episode is now worth it cause its only like 15 minutes long. Only get this if episode 2 comes out and youre interested in it. I give Sam Glyph Episode 1 a 5/10 For more reviews follow Snort's Review curator page here - follow for regular updates on reviews for other games!
Gameplay isn't very interesting, it's nothing we haven't seen before in other "walking sims" or adventure games with minimal gameplay. The story is forgetable, and the humor is mostly dull. It's been almost a year and only the first out of four episodes is out, doesn't look to ever be completed. Not worth it in its unfinished state, quite likely won't be worth it in its finished state either.
I laughed my ass off at this game. Apparently the humor is not for everyone; it's not exactly high-brow, but it's not, say, South Park. The timing, writing, and delivery are all above-par. The thing of it is, Episode 1 is 15 minutes long, and episodes 2-4 are vaporware; the developer has disappeared, and this is very likely all we're getting. If this game was free I'd rate it 11/10. For five bucks I'd say to seriously consider grabbing it. For fifteen USD? Absolutely not. Do not buy this game, at least until there's some proof that the other three "episodes" are actually coming.
So I've played through the first two chapters (which as far as I can tell is all there is at this point), and I have to say I was highly disappointed. The dialogue is very juvenile, it really seems like a early teenage guy trying to sound super tough. As far as actual game play goes I would start by suggesting more payoff of exploration, by which I mean beyond the office there really isn't much you can click on or investigate. I'm not a huge fan of the blocky graphics but that is mostly just a personal preferance. The final thing I have to say about this slightly dull game with potential is that at no point in any game have I ever thought to myself "Gee if only I could actually watch my character piss, that would make this experience so much better". While I won't be reccomending this game anytime soon, I will certainly play the next two episodes when they come out in hopes that there is improvement :)
The game is decent with some dry humor in it. I am mixed about this game. Its an alright game, you don't really know what to do but look at everything that you can. The first episode took 20 mins to beat, which ended in a weird way. Right now I wouldn't recommend this to my friends as its not the best of games. It has potential though to be something fun but I guess we will see in the later episodes.
