About
Salt 2 is a pirate themed open world game with a focus on exploration, crafting, survival, and RPG elements.
You wake up stranded on an island and must find resources to build a raft and head out to sea. Set sail across the world solo or with up to 5 friends. Your ship will act as your traveling base as you explore in any direction you want. Discover islands filled with hundreds of hand crafted caves, ruins, pirate forts, and other mysterious places. Follow the main storyline to uncover the mysteries of the world or join various guilds and earn a name for yourself. Craft powerful weapons and armor, hunt and fish for survival, level up your character unlocking unique skills and talents for your gear, and decorate your ship, making it your home at sea.
In Salt 2, we've prioritized the PVE experience, allowing you to play completely solo or cooperatively with friends.
This isn't a game with naval combat, but is focused on PVE content such as decorating your ship, going on quests, and exploring islands with tons of unique locations. You don't have to worry about being attacked by other players while exploring the sea and losing your progress. The core gameplay is built around the solo and cooperative experience. A huge focus has also been put on making your ship your home base at sea. We've added over 100 different ship decorations you can place anywhere on your ship. Plus, the world is procedurally generated so you can explore in any direction for as long as you want.
Salt 2 is about pure freedom. You start in the middle of a vast ocean, pick a direction, and set sail across a procedurally generated world. Navigate the seas with a compass and sextant, using map coordinates as your guide to new locations. Discover uncharted islands with ruins, pirate camps, seaports, and over 200 unique dungeons all filled with loot and lore. Even though the islands are procedural, our points of interests are hand crafted with unique secrets, puzzles, and design.
Your ship is your home at sea. While exploring the world you will find all kinds of items to craft and decorate your ship making it unique to you. You can place items virtually anywhere on your ship and customize it as you see fit. While traveling the sea you can also craft items, cook food, and fish for survival.
You’ll need food to survive. Grab a fishing pole and toss a lure overboard to catch some fish or grab your bow and head into the woods to hunt some wildlife. Once you've got your ingredients, it's time to start cooking. With over 50 different meal recipes to discover, you'll constantly be on the lookout for a new recipe that will not only keep you alive, but give you passive benefits as well.
We wanted to create a world that you could not only get lost in, but live in. You set the pace of your adventure and decide what you want to do. Maybe you’re in the mood to go on epic quests and hunt down a world boss, or maybe you just want to relax on the shore and catch some fish. The choice is yours.
The islands are full of dangerous enemies. Fight legendary pirates, skeletons, bosses, and dangerous wildlife in your hunt for adventure.
As you explore the world you will discover tons of resources that can be used to craft new items, armor, weapons, and decorations for your ship.
Character progression is an important aspect of Salt 2. Level up your character and skills unlocking new world tiers, crafting recipes, and other upgrades. With each new world tier comes more difficult enemies and rare loot.
We've taken a lot of inspiration from games like Diablo and Skyrim when designing our dungeons. While exploring the world you'll discover caves, crypts, ruins, temples, and other dungeons full of secrets, enemies, puzzles, and unique loot.
Salt 2 features an RPG style loot system with different rarities of armor and weapons, and interesting stats to tailor to the play style you want. Each piece of gear also has randomized talents. So whether you are crafting a high level item, or hunting down a pirate captain for an epic sword, you'll always be searching for that new rare item with the perfect roll.
Dock your ship at a sea port and pick up quests and commissions from guilds, the townsfolk, and merchants.

Salt 2 is a pirate-themed open world adventur, well adventure is very generous... This game is like a sandwich made of a piece of white bread and nothing else, blan and boring
Tolles Abenteuer spiel! setzt die Segel mit vielen verschiedenen schiffen wer abendteuer mag und einfach mal abschalten will ist hier genau richtig
Salt 2 is one of the least optimized games I’ve played in years. I’m running it on a 4070 with 64GB of RAM, and even on the lowest settings, the game still lags in places like I’m trying to run it off a stack of floppy disks. For a game built around exploration, the constant performance issues completely kill any sense of immersion. The jank goes way beyond frame rate. There’s clipping in random places, including something as basic as trying to get onto your own boat. You’ll clip in and out of the structure like the game can’t decide where the player model is supposed to be. NPCs mostly just stand around doing nothing, which makes the world feel empty and unfinished rather than alive. Progression also feels strangely balanced. Skills scale in bizarre ways so you can end up with something like level 70 herbalism while your mining is still level 2. Character creation is weak, giving you a grand total of three character choices, which feels incredibly thin for a modern adventure/survival RPG. The loading design may be the weirdest part. Why is there a fade-out and fade-in just to go up a ladder to a second floor of a building that I can already see? I’m moving two feet upward inside the same tiny building. Why can’t I just climb the ladder normally? I loved the first Salt, and there may be a decent idea buried somewhere underneath Salt 2, but the terrible optimization, clipping, lifeless NPCs, weird progression, limited customization, and bizarre loading choices make it feel unfinished. Until these issues are seriously improved, I can’t recommend it.
game can be demanding on the computer, graphics could be better and multiplayer setup is a mess. i personally prefer a game where it is easy to setup multiplayer instead of all players involved needing to make the exact same world with the exact same seed and than the "host" invites the players. graphics wise id expect more from the game instead of cheaply made 3d designing and believe the company could have done way better on designing if took the time and effort for it. as for the gpu it can some times be heavy on the gpu when hosting the game. had a few times the host crashed due to gpu issues. overall id say the game is only if that worth no more than $5 USD and that is on a high price rating. overall feel though is about $1-$2 worth of value for effort, issues and complications.
If you are a hardcore survival player please disregard this review as most survival games have similar systems. While there is initially a lot to do, the game does get repetitive. However, also with that said, as you level up, the world (and some of things you can find) do change. But the core systems are still very repetitive once you are a few hours in. I am still enjoying myself 36 hours in.
Very good game! It is simple and does what it says. Two-developer team! It has a consistent and cozy art-style and it runs really well on my mid-grade PC. It's a little barebones but it's not trying to do anything massive. Movement feels really nice. Combat is a bit one-dimensional but it works. Game is great for folks who like to get lost exploring and enjoy pretty sunsets with soothing tunes. My only wish is that it had on-land base building, but the ship customization is fun, and it just works! Hope it keeps getting updated over the years.
Oufff... there's a lot to say here. I forced myself to finish the main storyline and I probably shouldn't have. Salt2 is a very very basic game, in all aspect. Graphics, gameplay, world building, puzzles, it's game making like we did in the late 1990s early 2000s. If you are intimidated by videogames, are looking for something to get your feet wet, and the theme appeals to you, this game might be for you. The price is friendly too. In many ways it feels like a student project where the teacher forgot to tell them to stop. At no point are you going to forget you are playing a videogame. Everything is generated, fake and planted. Unique locations and named NPCs repeat all over the place, completely breaking suspension of disbelief. Ebony is a metal that you mine. The progression is the blandest possible, with only numbers going up and nothing changing. The ship are undifferentiated. The puzzles are spelled out and obvious. It's all fetch quests and kill quests. It's 95% sailing and walking. The world is empty and only exists for the player. Technically it is ok, and the ambiance has its moments with seagulls and sunsets. But if that's what you are looking for, turn to Black Flag or even Sea of Thieves. The absence of naval combat in a pirate game is just... Controller support is tedious an lazy, with use of a cursor even to select items in a list menu (main menu for example). If you actually enjoy the basic blandness of it though, there is TONS of content. Questlines upon questlines, side quests, deliveries, orders, random loot. None of it is meaningful, satisfying or differentiated, but there is a LOT of it. As a side not, always focus on quests. I did a lot of random exploring early and it slows down progression and acheives nothing, forcing you to revisit locations onces a quest inevitably send you where you are already been. So I sunk 48hours into this and I really wish I hadn't. I hope your time is more fruitful.
Great little game. Its not nonstop action, there's plenty of peaceful sailing where you can tend to your crafting or making food. However its not without its challenges such as fighting pirates, archers, undead creatures, etc. I like that you have to rely on your sextant to determine your location and an island is only marked on the map when you use the same tool on land. Your map and sextant will become your best friends to setting a course to your set waypoint on the map.
