My first time playing Old Wu's horror game, and I was genuinely scared. The suspense is maxed out, and the male lead's revenge-fueled combat prowess is seriously impressive—he's truly fearless when it comes to these ghostly things. The female characters are also quite charming, but they don't play significant roles in most scenarios or against the final boss. It's basically all handled by the male lead and one female character's older sister, so no matter how you look at it, the female leads come off as pretty useless (lol). Then I discovered on the Chinese official site (https://www.hikarifield.co.jp/sakuranomori/) that the character-specific routes were added about half a year after release. Compared to the common route, they feel a bit disjointed, but that's no big deal—I only care about the HE. PS: The only real disappointment is the childhood friend. The prologue built her up so well, only for her to vanish afterward (my childhood friend just disappeared like that TAT). When she finally bids farewell to the protagonist, there's even a dedicated goodbye animation—so heartbreaking (┬_┬). Overall, it's still a solid work. I heard there's an uncensored patch out there, but I'm not chasing that for this kind of game. Time to prepare for the second installment. Translated with DeepL.com (free version)
Sakura no Mori † Dreamers, developed by MOONSTONE and published by HIKARI FIELD, is a psychological horror visual novel that blends supernatural mystery, emotional tragedy, and brutal violence into a deeply unsettling but highly engaging narrative experience. Rather than focusing purely on romance or slice-of-life storytelling like many visual novels in the genre, the game builds an atmosphere filled with paranoia, grief, and hidden terror lurking beneath the surface of an otherwise ordinary town. Its combination of emotional storytelling and graphic horror creates an experience that feels both emotionally intimate and relentlessly disturbing. The story follows Shinji Fukigami, a young man whose life was shattered after surviving a devastating airplane accident that killed his parents. Since that traumatic event, Shinji has possessed the terrifying ability to see monstrous entities known as devils. These creatures appear connected to a growing series of gruesome murders occurring throughout the town of Sakura no Mori. Shinji’s emotional state worsens further after the violent death of someone deeply important to him, leaving him trapped between grief, fear, and an obsession with uncovering the truth behind the supernatural horrors surrounding the town. One of the game’s most impressive strengths is its atmosphere. Sakura no Mori † Dreamers constantly creates unease even during its quieter moments. Conversations between characters often feel emotionally fragile, as though something terrible could interrupt them at any moment. The game excels at turning ordinary environments such as schools, streets, and homes into places filled with tension simply through pacing and tone. This slow buildup of dread makes the horror sequences far more effective because the story never allows players to feel fully safe or comfortable. The writing is particularly strong when exploring trauma and emotional damage. Shinji is not presented as a flawless protagonist or simple self-insert character. Instead, he feels psychologically scarred by both supernatural experiences and personal loss. His fear, loneliness, and desperation are portrayed with surprising emotional depth, helping the horror feel personal rather than purely external. The supporting heroines are also written with care, each carrying emotional wounds and vulnerabilities that make their relationships with Shinji feel meaningful and believable. The horror itself is genuinely disturbing at times. Murders are described with graphic intensity, and the devils remain deeply unsettling throughout the story. Rather than functioning as ordinary monsters, these entities symbolize deeper psychological fears and obsessions tied to violence, madness, and emotional corruption. The game constantly blurs the boundary between supernatural evil and human darkness, creating uncertainty about where the true source of horror actually lies. Another major strength is the structure of the mystery. The narrative steadily introduces clues, revelations, and hidden connections without sacrificing suspense. Early conversations and seemingly minor details gradually gain major significance later in the story, rewarding players who pay attention to subtle hints and character behavior. The pacing remains effective because emotional scenes and horror sequences are balanced carefully, allowing tension to escalate naturally instead of relying solely on sudden twists or shock value. Visually, Sakura no Mori † Dreamers features highly detailed artwork and expressive character designs that strengthen both the emotional and horror-focused scenes. Character expressions are especially important because much of the emotional impact comes from fear, grief, or psychological strain visible during conversations. The contrast between attractive anime-inspired visuals and brutal horror imagery creates an atmosphere that feels increasingly uncomfortable as the story progresses. Certain murder scenes and supernatural encounters leave a lasting impression because of how sharply they clash with the otherwise elegant presentation. The soundtrack also contributes significantly to the experience. Emotional piano tracks support the quieter relationship scenes, while darker ambient compositions and tense music intensify the horror moments. The game uses silence effectively as well, often allowing awkward pauses or unsettling dialogue to create tension more effectively than loud dramatic music. Voice acting further enhances the emotional impact, helping scenes involving terror, sorrow, or emotional breakdowns feel far more believable. What truly makes Sakura no Mori † Dreamers memorable is how seriously it treats its darker themes. The game constantly explores the psychological effects of violence, grief, obsession, and trauma without reducing them to simple plot devices. Characters are emotionally changed by the horrors surrounding them, and the story consistently reminds players that fear and loss leave lasting scars. This emotional weight gives the narrative far more impact than many horror visual novels that rely purely on graphic imagery. However, the game’s heavy emphasis on reading and dialogue may not appeal to players unfamiliar with visual novels. The experience is largely narrative-driven, with minimal gameplay interaction outside of choices and branching story routes. Players seeking more active gameplay systems may struggle with the slower pacing during longer dialogue-heavy scenes. The atmosphere can also become emotionally exhausting because of how relentlessly dark the story remains throughout much of its runtime. Graphic violence, disturbing imagery, and psychological trauma are constant elements of the experience. Some emotional scenes and twists also lean heavily into melodrama, occasionally pushing the intensity close to excess, though the strong writing usually prevents these moments from undermining the story entirely. Despite these flaws, Sakura no Mori † Dreamers succeeds because of its gripping mystery, emotionally grounded characters, and oppressive supernatural atmosphere. It combines psychological horror, emotional drama, and murder mystery storytelling into a visual novel that remains immersive and suspenseful from beginning to end. Rather than relying only on shock value, the game carefully builds emotional investment before confronting players with increasingly tragic and horrifying revelations. For fans of horror visual novels and dark supernatural mysteries, Sakura no Mori † Dreamers offers a tense and emotionally powerful experience filled with suspense, tragedy, and psychological terror. Its memorable atmosphere, strong character writing, and disturbing mystery make it one of the more compelling horror-focused visual novels available for players willing to immerse themselves in its bleak and unsettling world. 可
不得不玩2 圆香就是支持我的动力啊
GOOD!
