A Cute All-Star Dice Roguelite With Cozy Tactical Charm
A dice-based roguelite RPG that brings together characters from multiple IPs by a Taiwanese indie studio -- an agricultural VN, a food personification game, and a metro mascot series. Transported to another world, the heroes collect adorable combat characters called "Rice-Hime" and fight through 3v3 turn-based battles. With 22 Rice-Hime drawn from three distinct franchises, the roster is varied. The story takes a lighthearted comedy approach, keeping the mood fun and breezy throughout. The core of the battle system revolves around rolling each character's unique set of dice to generate action points. Each Rice-Hime has a different number of dice, face configurations, and reroll counts, with points spent to activate skills. The roster includes succubi, ninjas, samurai, maids, and more, making team composition against enemy weaknesses the heart of the strategy. Buff and debuff stacking plays a major role, creating a balance between dice luck and tactical judgment. The map follows a StS-style node-selection layout with normal battles, hard battles, camps, shops, and random events to choose from. At camp, players pick between rest, team upgrades, and skill upgrades -- resource allocation that adds another layer of decision-making. Meta-progression in the form of "Talents" can be toggled on or off, letting casual players lean on accumulated bonuses while challenge-seekers disable them for a tougher run. Post-launch updates added three protagonist routes with individual endings and a boss rush mode, expanding the content from the initial release. Visually, the pixel art battle animations stand out with individually crafted motions for each character. Watching the cute pixel fighters move across the screen is enjoyable, and the contrast with the anime-style character portraits in menus and events adds visual variety. Dramatic CG inserts during boss encounters create a tonal shift from the usual comedy, giving the overall experience a satisfying sense of rhythm. If there is room for improvement, it would be the somewhat limited strategic depth as a roguelite. Players seeking the thrill of explosive build scaling or dramatically different runs each time may find the experience a bit understated. The meta-progression growth curve can feel uneven, with early runs being punishing and later ones becoming noticeably easier. Content volume is compact, with full achievement completion reachable in a few hours -- a design that prioritizes accessibility over length. Combining the unique appeal of an all-star IP crossover with a solid casual dice roguelite framework, this title works both as a love letter to existing fans and as a standalone experience. At its price point, it can be recommended to anyone looking to relax with cute characters and dice-driven battles. HHF-chan's comment: "Building the perfect team and sweating over dice rolls is way too fun!"
Check out our Steam curator (link) , YouTube channel (link), and X(Twitter) (link)!
100% play here: This game was fantastic it's pretty easy since the game is nice enough to let you swap your additional characters in if someone dies, but the art style the little character interactions and the abilities of the characters were all a ton of fun definitely recommend! It's a blast!
I completed the free demo and this game. This game was fantastic. So many different combinations can be done. You will not win on the first few runs since it is a rouge lite and need meta progression. If that isn't your thing then this isn't your game. You can turn meta progression on or off to adjust the difficulty which makes it great. The dev is great as responding to things in the discussion as well with bug fixes and updates.
I bought Sakura And The Airyvixen on launch day and was instantly hooked! I've been playing it whenever I've had a spare moment over the last two days. It was my first roguelite, so I was learning about the genre, as well as this game specifically, as I played. I like the combination of strategy mixed with chance when deciding how to progress through a map. You know more or less what you're getting when you choose 'battle' or 'camp' or 'store', but an 'event' is unpredictable. There is more gameplay than story in this game, but the dialogue that does appear is entertaining and I love getting to meet more characters, so often I can't resist the events! The characters have super-cute designs and animations and personalities. That applies to the enemies as well as the heroes - everyone is adorable! There are 22 rice-hime to collect and a whole host of other bright and fun characters to encounter. I'm impressed by their variety too, such as
the zombie girl, the maid girl and the samurai girl.
I have to admit though, the overall story could be better. I was curious about why the three protagonists had been transported to this other world, and about Shrimpexia's motivations, and about Airyvixen's role and her apparent authority over Shrimpexia. Sadly, none of these things were properly explained. Airyvixen says that she's not at full power because "the seal is still set". What does that mean? I thought the player would fight her again after she regains her full strength but that doesn't happen, so why include this detail? I was intrigued by the fact that
Sakura (the protagonist) and Shrimpexia (the villain) have the same character design.
Surely that must be significant! But somehow that was never acknowledged?! This game definitely would have benefitted from the story being further developed. In terms of gameplay, learning the basics of fights is easy, but deciding which characters to have in the team working together and which of their skills to use at which moment is challenging. I enjoyed feeling like I earned my victories by using my brain. But, this was my first roguelite, so I can't comment on how difficult or easy more experienced players would find it. Nevertheless, I think newcomers and fans of the genre alike would have a good time playing Sakura And The Airyvixen for its joyful art and cute cast <3 Faye Strawberry Curator
