A Note From The Developer:
SAELIG is a solo-developed hobby project that's been worked on since 2017. It doesn't have a fixed endpoint, as it keeps evolving, with updates bringing fixes, tweaks, and new features. So the Early Access tag isn't really about missing content, it's more that I think of SAELIG as a living project. It's always changing, and Early Access is a good way to signal just how much things can shift from one update to the next.
The Game:
SAELIG is a strategy game that blends simulation, RPG elements, trading, and business management, where your goal is to ensure the survival, wealth, and legacy of your family. Set in the Dark Ages of England, you’ll step into the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Wessex during a time of turmoil. Engage in commerce, manage your enterprises, and make crucial decisions to carve your own path and leave a lasting mark on the world for generations to come.
You have the freedom to shape your destiny and play your way—become a trader, a business owner, a hardworking labourer, a landlord, a cunning criminal, a vigilant watchman, an influential abbot, a skilled hunter, or explore other roles. The choice is yours.
SAELIG features a dynamic, living world where every action counts, and each character leads a life of their own. You’re not here to save the world or play the hero—you’re here to live your life, make your choices, and do your best to thrive in a world full of possibilities.

SAELIG offers many possibilities for how you approach the game, giving you the freedom to shape your story in countless ways:
Begin your journey however you choose—from beggar to business owner and everything in between.
Forge your own path, regardless of your starting point.
Find love, start a family, and build a lasting dynasty.
Rise to power as an Abbot running the church, or take charge as a Town-Reeve, placing yourself above the law.
Take on a humble job and earn your keep with honest work.
Become a gravedigger, earning silver by tending to the dead, or care for the village children at the Learning Hall.
Forage for resources and sell your findings at the market.
Hunt wild animals and profit from processing their hides and meat.
Trade goods between markets and seize opportunities for wealth.
Establish towns and build them up alongside the other civilians.
Adopt orphans and send them to work in the mines.
Invest in properties and rent out homes for steady income.
Run a variety of businesses to supply towns with vital goods.
Buy land and develop it, helping the community grow.
Manipulate the economy, start fires, hoard resources, and create chaos if you wish.
Turn to a life of crime, stealing your way to riches.
Fight for survival against brutal Viking raids.
Win the favour of the King and rise to the rank of Thegn.
And so much more—your story is yours to create.
SAELIG has a living world that deepens your experience:
A living, breathing world where every character is striving to survive and thrive.
Every character has a full life, from birth to death, and the ability to influence the world just like you.
Experience multiple generations—when your character dies, continue the story as one of your children.
Dynamic seasons and weather that impact the environment and gameplay.
A variety of buildings to construct, purchase, and upgrade to suit your needs.
Fires and diseases that can devastate not only your home but entire towns and villages.
A living economy where every item is produced and consumed by the population—nothing exists without purpose.
A knowledge system that rewards practice and mastery, allowing you to improve skills through repeated actions.

TL;DR: it's fun, worth the money, has some issues, none of them I've found are game-breaking. You make a character, choose where/how to start and are then left with a sandbox to play in. It's fun! I'm someone who doesn't like to play tutorials, preferring to mess around in gameplay and find things out as I go. I ended up playing it a bit like a tycoon game. Got a house, made some bows, renovated a place into a bakery, hired some people to work there, had a fight with the other local baker when I caught them trying to ignite my place for the second time, local baker mysteriously disappears, end up becoming a polarising figure in the local towns because I am a competitor for many but pay good wages and sell nice food. Raiders were my main source of income early-game; their gear sells well. Overall, definitely worth the price. It reminds me of the time where each game coming out was interesting and exciting, where it wasn't just pretty 4K everything overly monetised without much thought for the gameplay. I hope it keeps up! Nice job. What I like: - social happenings have consequences - small dating-pools make sense for the environment - AI set fire to my house because I created a competing business, which makes a lot of sense - Arson is a skill, which I find hilarious. Have you practiced your arson today? What needs work (excluding bugs): - it's not always clear why the game tracks visitors. Some make sense like merchants, but wandering monks less so. Perhaps the notification could drop a hint? - It's not clear what there is to do beyond tycooning. There's potentially for a Sims-esk game here, if the needs were fleshed out a bit. What I'd like (in terms of features) - a more fleshed out needs system. - dynamic plots, or none at all (I'd like to grow a village into a city!) - more intrigue, both for me and NPCs (the little I saw was very fun, think CK3-style at a smaller scale) - travelling between towns, being a wandering merchant would be fun - alternative ways to play being fleshed out in general - I shouldn't instantly know that my cart has been robbed, as I can just move the camera and see who did it. A delay in reporting it (perhaps when it reaches market or the driver when there is on can run to me and say what happened. Even better if they might give ... false info ... if they don't like me.... ) - more use for my spouse. Married him, basically ignored him from then on. I don't mind not having to constantly top up some silly relationship bar, I mean more ... I don't have much to gain from interacting with them at present. There's a few limited options I can direct them towards which helps. I like that it's indirect, helps with RP a lot. Bugs: - memory leak. Noticed it the first time when my system hanged, turns out the game had spawned a _lot_ of threads consuming a lot of memory each. Had to kill the process in the end. When I reloaded the save and continued, I eventually found about 100MB of RAM being leaked periodically. - performance issues (was using system that ran Cyberpunk 2077 on fairly high settings without issue) -- e.g. when loading the list of townspeople, game lags often. Not always, unsure why. -- e.g. sometimes looking at water tanks the game to < 1FPS, regardless of settings. -- e.g. the memory leak eventually leads to the whole system slowing down to a halt. - watchmen not always dealing with raiders. My spouse did not bother whilst I ran out there like a beserker. However, I wouldn't consider it game breaking. The memory leak is something I can keep an eye on, saving and reloading before things hang. The other freezes are annoying but not permanent. The main gameplay loop performance is just fine; I didn't notice many issues there. I believe the game is reporting a low frame rate than is actually present, given the game looks smooth as 60 fps sometimes but reports < 10 fps. I am guessing the dev has used a simple average calculation that has been skewed by outliers. If you're reading this dev, I'm happy to give you a hand with alternatives / profiling and debugging performance issues locally if that helps you?

Relaxing and progressive RPG. Resource MGMT aspect isn't too complex yet fun to play.
A good medieval simulation. Live your dream of becoming a lord, starting as a lowlife peasant.
worth
i honestly have no idea what im doing in this game I started a butcher shop and began hunting / selling meat to the local market. All was going well for a really long time, but then this dude built 3 livestock farms in the village. It kinda made me angry so in the middle of the night I burnt down all 3 farms as to not let my neighbor devalue the price of meat within the regions economy. Im pretty sure the idea is to start a family but im just using my massive monopoly on the meat market to buy up all the housing and charge insane rent per month like an evil landlord
I really like it
Enfin, on retrouve un jeu de simulation au moyen age. Beaucoup plus propre que le dernier "the guild", et riche en possibilités. Quatre étoiles **** pour Saelig :) :master: :chef:
The Guild but better
SÆLIG is one of those games that really rewards patience and planning. What I enjoy the most is starting a town completely from zero and watching it slowly grow. Building the first few houses and businesses, attracting new families, creating jobs, producing goods, and gradually developing a real economy is extremely satisfying. I especially like the freedom the game gives you. You can focus on your own family and businesses, or try to influence the development of the whole settlement. The production chains, trading, NPC economy and gradual expansion make every new game feel different. The advanced start is probably my favourite way to play because you really feel that you are building a community from nothing. At the beginning every piece of wood, every nail and every building matters, and seeing the town eventually become active and self-sustaining is very rewarding. SÆLIG may not be the fastest-paced game, but that is part of its charm. It is a great mix of life simulation, business management, economy and medieval settlement building. Highly recommended if you enjoy slow progression, economic simulation and especially the challenge of starting a town from scratch.
Recommended! - Mom abandoned us and Dad was a drunk - Turned to music and petty crime as a kid, resisted urge to burn the place down before I left for good - Arrive in new town. Decided I was going to do better than I'd been taught. The king himself will know my name some day! - started playing lute in the streets, nobody cared - Chatted up every woman that walked by, made lots of new friends - People start noticing the music, kids dance, a few folk even drop some coins for me - Start waiting to see one woman in particular every day, the only single one for miles around. Turns out she's the only surviving child of one of the town's wealthiest families - We get close. Must marry this girl, propose, she says no. After all, I'm the lovable scamp living in a tent down by the river, surviving on raw foraged eggs to survive, and she's a wealthy landowner. - Decide to put down the lute and buy a bow with the little money I've made. Must run in the blood because I'm a crackshot, make more in a day than I made in a week playing the lute - Maybe if I wasn't homeless she'd like me more. Save up and buy a Hunter's hut with a little bed in the back, hire some locals to help process the carcasses and hides - Moving on up, proposed again but got shot down again. Still not good enough - Have a steady supply of leather now, and just my luck the hierless town leatherworker dies and I snatch up his shop. Even left some stuff behind to get started - Need wool for the shop, leftovers running out, buy a coral for sheep. - Making bank. Big man walking, will she marry me now? - She says Yes! We celebrate and get knocked up that very night. First try! - I move into her fancy homestead, start running her businesses and mine, pool our resources. - Buy the town workshop and a mine to supply it, am now the sole supplier of equipment for the king's military camp. - It's a boy! We celebrate and get knocked up again that very night. Oops. - Slowly build up the empire, running nearly half the town now, running caravans, supplying the military. - Start automating some things, letting other people do the work while I get back to playing lute. Getting pretty good too! - The king notices all my hard work. He knows my name! - Suck it mom and dad. And that playthrough is still going. Started running caravans, going to start shipping abroad, gonna have way more kids, buy an estate, become a town elder. Kids'll probably own the entire town eventually. Grandkids will probably own all the towns eventually. Lots of starting & customization options, decent-to-good mechanics, a medieval setting, a little roleplaying/imagination and you've got a recipe for a compelling little experience, with enough late game automation to smooth out the grind, once you figure it out*. There's no story but what you invent. Will probably get a lot more hours out of this yet. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out. *
(Horse carts and a shed are your best friends, automate delivery to a shed at end of day. The trading post is not particularly useful except for caravans and selling exotic items, once your trading is over 40 the market comparison will spell out some market-to-market trade opportunities that your horse cart can fulfill while you sleep that'll provide a pretty considerable boost to your income)
