Gameplay is a bit simple, but it's oozing with variety and charm, and Kenta would make an amazing DM with all the effort he put into this project of his, in universe. That said, play this in Windowed Mode, since that's the only way to have an easy method to exit out of the game.
Not a video game, more of a visual novel trying to capture the feeling of playing dumb games to pass the time with an eccentric friend after school. In no particular order some odd things to know or I would recommend about this game: - Settings menu is 'unlocked' about 2.5 hours in. Use volume mixer to change sound - The game autosaves frequently in the bottom left, no manual save - No way to leave game. Alt-f4. - There's 7 chapters, some quirky things happen when you relaunch the game so I'd play 1 per day and not binge. - There's a multiplayer mario party mode that my girlfriend enjoyed a lot.
Wanted so much to thumbs up, but... Let's start with the dialog. There's tons of it and it is slow. No problem, go to the options and change the text speed. Ha-ha-ha, you don't even get option until half way through chapter two and the only useful option is to change the audio setting from "too loud" to "medium". No problem, just hit the action button to fast forward the text. Nope, not allowed. Sigh. Okay then, just wait and hit the action button as soon as the text finishes. Nope, there is a delay between the end of the text and the appearance of the prompt to allow you to finally move forward. And the whole game is like this. So much seeking to annoy the player that it almost seems deliberate. There is only one action button. Except...it changes. And there is only one movement button. Except...it changes. I lost one mini-game because I didn't really the controls had changed quickly enough. And there are a lot of crappy parts. A lot of time where your attack will hit but the game will not register it. And just weird bugs. For example, you have to attack one enemy where he is not armored. Fine. The unarmored parts are (a) eyes, (b) tail, (c) leg. I attack tail. "Sorry, the tail isn't even real". Then I attack eyes. "Sorry, the leg armor protects that." I mean seriously WTF.
I wanted to like this game. I genuinely wanted to play this game, however there were a couple things that made this game unplayable for me. There's no quit button, so you're made to force close the game every time you're done playing. Secondly, after playing for over an hour I still hadn't unlocked the Options menu... you know... the thing you usually configure first before starting any game. Thirdly, (and perhaps this is hidden in the Options menu) there was no way I could find to delete your save. I missed a few items in the beginning and wanted to restart before getting too far into the game but that doesn't seem to be an option... or maybe just something I have to unlock later in the game but that just seems like poor design.
I am shocked this game is not on more cozy/wholesome game lists. It is vastly underrated & super fun! I had a blast with this game. You're in school & your classmate asks you to play his game. You agree & it ends up being a RPG that he has made in his notebook with all homemade props. There is even an entire sidequest section. Just know if you're here for a hardcore RPG strat game this isn't it. This is relaxing, fun, cozy and adorable.
Imagine when you were little and were not allowed any handheld device in school. This is how we (Gen X ) play games with our friends, with pencils and drawing books. This game is a point-and-click puzzle with a little bit of action-adventure and a lot of narrative and storytelling. The story is so cute, especially how they are represented in the game. The puzzle level is easy (of course!). You can not find challenging experiences in this game. It was meant for storytelling and enjoying visual art mainly. Some chapters may be spooky for children under 8. However, it is pretty safe for children at any age. I finished the game with nearly all collectibles within 11 hours. The only downside is that once you finish the game, you can not retry a specific chapter that you miss the collectible. You have to replay from the start. It is recommended for artists, those who enjoy playing point-and-click games and doodle art, and all children.
This is an extremely creative game and has some of the best presentation I've ever seen in the medium. The concept is you're a kid in school playing a D&D style tabletop RPG that your friend made and the visuals are made up of cardboard structures, paper-mache, and drawings in a notebook. In addition to being stylistically striking, the game also features some surprisingly charming and funny writing. In terms of gameplay, RPG Time switches between a wide variety of genres that ensures it never gets boring, but the quality of these varies wildly. If you're okay with some inconsistent gameplay that feaures very high highs and very low lows as well as a baffling lack of settings (including a way to exit the game without using ALT + F4), this is definitely worth playing. With a little bit of refinement I think this developer can make something really special. 7.5/10
Cute and fun. My only complaint is it should have a "take a break" button to end the game from the inside. You literally have to kill the program to exit it. 10-12 hours of playtime. Just a straight up RPG set up as if it was run by a preteen dungeon master, all making it seem to be a real childhood friend you are playing with.
