RPG NPC Simulator VR
I hate leaving negative reviews but I cant recommend this game at its current price. Its Early Access but the dev is already pumping out other titles so it doesnt seem like they are prioritizing making 1 good game, and instead focusing on making a bunch of sub par games. I have a feeling this will be left in EA and abandoned. Which sucks because it is a neat little niche game. TLDR Buy it on sale cause its not worth full price.
I highly recommend you don't buy this game if you use Valve Index controllers. I own a LOT of VR games and this is the only one, and by far the worst one I've come across that I expected to have some sort of play value. Even for a game that is a work in progress (even though its been in the works since 2019) it was practically unplayable. Practically no customization options, movement was horrid, and oh, did I mention lack of controls? The stand alone mechanics also blow, and the game will give you a headache, this is the first VR game to give me a headache. I could sit here and write many reasons as to why not to get this game. I refunded it, and if you still wanna give it a try, I highly recommend preparing for a refund. Don't let these positive reviews throw you in the wrong direction. The developer seems to not care one bit.
No support for WMR HP g2 controllers. Avoid
This is more of a neutral review that leans slightly into the negative due to lack of polish, effort and bugs nearly a year after launch.. https://youtu.be/CqRo2c0TN3c At 14.99 RPG NPC Simulator isn't very expensive. It's also not that cheap either. The game lacks a lot of polish and doesn't feel like a lot of effort went into the game. There are some good ideas but overall the execution is pretty poor. The audio is all over the place. I'm sure the customer noises are for your information but hearing them across the map breaks immersion and just doesn't feel right. The noises themselves were kinda meh. All around just meh. Visually the game was also sort of meh. Scale on the Players? NPCs? Patrons? People buying your sh*t... They were way too short. They were all about 5ish feet tall and all the same height. Just one of those little things that's really insignificant but glaringly immersion breaking. Like a tiny paper cut on your finger while you try to type. It's the tiniest of wounds but always at the forefront of your mind whenever you touch a key. The UI was pretty bad IMO. The laser pointer selector kept going away whenever you touched the stick. You'd have to attempt to scroll with the stick again to get it to come back. Where you needed to look to interact with the UI vs where the response information was presented were at opposite ends of the menu. Just poorly designed. Having recopies show up before purchasable items when you can't craft anything for quite some time seems poorly implemented. There just wasn't much I liked about the UI. I did like the mechanics I saw though. Wandering around and scavenging for loot from dead adventurers and just designing and running the shop in general. A lot of good ideas, just very low effort implementation. I would have liked to see some other adventuring mechanics and I would have liked to try crafting but that appears to be a mid to late game mechanic. Which brings me to your goal, or lack there of. With the flat games like this, you have a story or a MP goal of building up a town. There's a purpose for getting all that money aside from just hitting achievement goals. There was no purpose here. No feeling of progression. The leveling system had no meaning other than to ding every once in a while. I didn't see any new unlocks or mechanics. So... What is my overall goal? I didn't see one. This is overall a mostly neutral and meh review but I think it leans more negative than positive. Which is pretty disappointing because I expected I would like this game and was going for a win after MoH. Oh well... Maybe next time...
Moving around (teleportation) is painful, so painful in fact I've revisited this game multiple times since purchase just to see if there are anything in the settings to change it. To move (with the Oculus S) you have to point and click using the analogue stick. It is either that or nausea inducing "smooth" locomotion. Maybe the game is fun, but when the basic controllers are this ♥♥♥♥ then I might never experience the gameplay.
This game is a little frustrating at first, but once you get the knack for it, is a fun little game to play and so far is very easy to beat. I believe it has amazing potential to be something REALLY great, as it is super unique! As I played through this game, I wrote down some things for improvement for constructive criticism. :) Some things that could use improvement: Please work on your tutorial. Include how to SAVE as it took me three times of guessing, losing progress and restarting. Movement is pretty bad, very sensitive, it takes a lot to get me dizzy as I play VR pretty frequently but this game movement often makes me dizzy. So if you're sensitive, I would pass over this game until motion has been fixed. Needs a mass price change option!!! It is very frustrating to hit the tiny up/down button, for every weapon. Item on the bottom of the list is very difficult to aim on. Clicking on the up/down button also moves the entire list, again, these things together make price changing very frustrating. Either do mass price changes, or at least make the up/down buttons stationary. Every tier of Wizzard items is the same price- 80 NPC can walk through your shelves, and they shouldn't be able to. This would give players the opportunity to make a maze and catch thieves. NPC get stuck in shelves when haggling and you cannot read their script or click on yes/no. NPC get stuck on each other when entering/exiting. Make them enter through right, exit through left to control some of this chaos. Items get stuck in tables and in cabinets. I will have to move my shelves and find 5+ potions under them. When restarting my game, shelves disappear and all of my potions were doubled in amount, but dumped all over the floor, or the items that NPCs have dropped will suddenly reappear everywhere. When setting up floor display, often having more than one type of display piece in your inventory will cause many issues. For example, if you have shelves and tables in your inventory, tables will appear red on your floor, making it unable to be placed but will randomly stay there in red on the floor. You cannot set them up, sell it, or pick up or get rid of the glowing red table. (this situation can happen with any furniture piece) You are forced to do a game exit/reenter to fix the issue. When you exit/enter game, all of your display pieces are gone from your inventory, every time. Things that have been placed on the floor stay where they were placed (most of the time, sometimes they randomly disappear too) Items in your hand just get funky. A simple dagger (beginner level item, I wrote down the name but can't find it now) when picked up ruined my hand, made it 3 feet above my head and would fly all over the screen, luckily i was able to exit/reenter and it fixed the issue. Sometimes when placing items they just... disappear. Or they're somehow thrown in the back of the shop. Assign the shelves to a specific potion!!!!! Just the shelves, make it so you can designate one shelf to what ever potion you choose and it will auto fill when you click on it or something, because filling this shelf by hand, one by one, is killing my knees and shoulders dude lol You need a mass pick up option. It's a necessity, especially when you progress and buy hundreds of potions at a time. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE ARROWS. It is so hard to pull one out, and I can't figure out why sometimes it will work, but most of the time it doesn't. Because of this issue, I chase down the thieves and poke them with the arrow instead of shooting them because you're so unlikely to be able to pull out another one. Or, I'll stand in front of the doors and hold the arrow out in front of me like a gate. When the thieves run through it, they kill themselves. Or... I just let the thieves get away because it is such a hassle that's not worth the time. Blacksmithing, this is coooooool! but again, REALLY needs a better tutorial. :) When you click on a recipe, you cannot minimize it or get rid of it, you can only change it to a new item. There is no dark iron (????????) When you make individual color irons (yellow, blue, green) they are placed together in your inventory under the regular iron. They need their own individual item slot. Your character must have a really weak wrist because the pick gets fUnKyYyYy. The stones when picked give one stone, three stones, or no stones, and sometimes just reappear whole over and over again. This game, while frustrating at times, has such potential. I love happy, addicting, stress free games like this. Of course at present time, most people will quickly give up, but it's already so unique that it's worth it to stick with it, even in it's early stages. I hope the dev doesn't give up on this game, you've done great so far, please keep it going! :D
It's a shallow experience, make no mistake. And yet, I found myself getting engaged. And before I knew it, I was invested. The concept is simple, you run an Item Shop that sells to adventurers. You have a few ways to get stock. You can go out and loot it from dead adventurers and bandits, you can buy it from the Mage Order catalog, or you can (eventually) craft it yourself using ores you mined. You decide what to stock, set prices, and protect the shop from thieves. As I said, it's a shallow experience, but it can also be surprisingly engaging. The tutorials are... not good. They all open in the middle, so if you don't scroll up you'll miss important information. Nothing in-game explains the controls. For that you need to view a "controls" graphic on the title menu. Still, if you're interested in a shopkeeper simulator, this is interesting. This is a very niche game, so it's difficult to recommend it in it's current state. It might not be worth $15, but if you can get it on sale or as part of a bundle it's worth checking out. Me, I got it through my Viveport subscription. Here's hoping for more content being added at some point to flesh the experience out further. There's suppose to be a major content update in the works that will add another mode. So in the future I may well change my mind. But right now, I can't say that it's worth the $15 price tag unless you already were wanting this type of experience.
I cannot say how good the rest of the game is, because I cannot make it past the main menu. The menu buttons don't work!
This review is mostly positive i promise. i am going to start with the bad stuff i have to say which is very little so here we go 1) having to use a bow to kill thieves, yeah seems fitting but the mechanics of it are rather iffy and your ability to hit is rather slim. id recommend a crossbow but that's just me 2) crafting, once i got to the crafting building i was only ever able to make one thing per day as the anvil tends to glitch, despite using the materials to make a sword (for example) the anvil will say the materials are still there despite having already crafted a sword and therefore cannot make another 3) id recommend the developers grant the players an ability to hire guards to prevent thieves from getting away 4) long term gameplay doesn't really seem possible in a game like this, yeah i can sell high quality gear, i can buy everything, i can have everything and just watch my gold counter get higher. but what after that? now that the negativity is out of the way lets go 1) this game is fun to play, its a unique experience being treated as an NPC in a video game and i very much enjoy it 2) the crafting mechanic itself is pretty simple and fun 3) the diversity of the customers gets pretty entertaining as the game goes on 4) being able to design your shop is a fun thing, even setting your prices with all that said i would very much like to say that i recommend this game and have enjoyed playing it, bugs and all.
