This free "demo" has a lot of options. Not as many as the full version of either VX Ace or the more recent "MV," but easily enough to get a general idea before spending any money. If anybody is even a little curious about RPG Maker game engines, I highly recommend this. The RPG Maker site has tutorials ... the ones for VX Ace all work on this "Lite" version, too. So you're not left out in the cold, just because you didn't spend money - yet. This free version limits "events" to 10 per screen, and the "chibi maker" in the full version has many more options. However, this remains a reasonable place to begin. It lets you experiment, and decide if using an engine like this is something you want to do. And you can continue using it, while you wait for a sale on the paid versions. Win-win all around! :)
After 80 hours of figuring this thing out, I finally feel as though I could create anything I wanted to using this software. It's the perfect rpg maker for beginners and great for creating games. Some of the features are hard to figure out at first, but with practice and some youtube tutorials, you can be really good at this!

Its confusing just from the start, and this has to be payed to actually work, so I suggest that you shouldn't even get the demo, even if it is free.
This is pretty great to get yourself if you're considering getting any rpg maker software but aren't sure if it's gonna be your thing. You're extremely limited in how many events, maps and such that you can have, but hey thats expected, it's free and gives you a taste of what rpg maker is all about. If you can get the hang of it and enjoy it, moving onto the full version is a lot easier. I'd highly reccommend testing this out before buying the full version.
