I forgot this even existed. Basically, if you've ever thought about getting RPG Maker VX Ace, but don't know if you want to and/or can spend the money on it, try this first. It's very much like the full version, the major differences being (in the lite version): Less resources You can't use scripts (game functionality, not words) You're limited in some of the things you can use You can't make any money off of the projects you make in it There's also an extensive Help section in the software (press F1), and a large online community of awesome resources and tutorials in case you need it. So, it's nice and free, and it's a good start. I recommend it. Edit: (3 years later): I thought I'd just mention that I believe there is a way to bypass some of the limits from the lite version. You can just search online for a specific aspect in the lite version, and you might find a way to work around it.
This was really fun to use and nice to have, but they don't say ANYTHING about there being a limit of twenty maps that you can make. I spent many hours making a good rpg but then suddenly it says I can't make any more maps. That was so frustrating after all the time I put into it. But I suppose if you just want to try the software before officially buying it, I do recommend this software.

useful for getting the hang of the software before you buy the full version. The lite version is limited but in the full version you can really get creative!
It's really fun to try out on a whim, and while the restrictions are harsh they force you to become more creative with it. Once you get in the zone you'll be sucked in for hours trying to turn a bunch of maps into a memorable experience. Hell, even the various spelling mistakes and errors force you into wanting to change the item descriptions. To give a good tip in keeping your game balanced, just keep testing the game over and over until you find yourself having fun with the build you got. Even as a demo this is worth picking up for a few hours. I can say once you buy the full product, it's definitely worth looking into finding Ruby scripting tutorials. This is a tool that just keeps expanding and expanding the more you dive into it, and who knows, maybe the scatological joke game you made from downloading this will eventually unfold into a genuine game development interest.
I really recommend getting this before actually buying the real thing. This version may have limitations, but you can still have lots of fun with it. All you really need here is your common sense :P
i try this before bought full version, which make me falling in love with RPG Maker...
for people toying with the idea of making a game or just to get familiar with things while deciding if this is right for you it gives you a good point of reference and is very helpful. I recommend this to anyone if they are unsure of buying the full version.
Simples o suficiente para uma criança usar, poderoso o suficiente para um desenvolvedor programar, e versátil o suficiente para qualquer plataforma.
This game maker is great. (Although it's not the paid version). im not very good with programming though. So I kinda failed my game, but anyway it's still a fun and creative little game(even though I suck at it).
Fantastic taste of what RPG Maker can let you create. It allows you to navigate the software and get used to things before you buy. This is particularly useful for people who have been considering the full software, but want to know more about it and get a view of what the software can do. Please note that this is basically a demo for the full software, so don't be expecting unlimited access to change what you want; that's pretty much what you get when buying RPG Maker VX Ace,
