Great board game, great digital game
For those too lazy to read the full review, I highly recommend. 9.5/10 To preface, I've played both the board game and, more recently, the video game. Gameplay I've played every faction as it came out, since the original kickstarter campaign released, with the 4 base factions (Marquise, Eyrie, Woodland Alliance and Vagabond). To say that this game has some of the best, most diverse asymmetric gameplay while still maintaining a very consistent level of balance is a clear understatement to anyone that has played. Bugs I'm not going to pretend that the video game is bugless - there are a few random error messages that still show occasionally. However, for the most part, it plays exactly as it should: as a replica of the board game, with quality of life improvements and an easier UI. Why Root? Of all the tabletop strategy games out there, or strategy games in general, Root stands out for a few reasons: It is highly asymmetric. The world is a system that each faction plays into in their own unique way, and that governs the expectations for what a faction should be capable of. For example, every faction can move and battle. Most can also build and recruit. However, different factions may have a different level of ability to perform these 4 key actions, and also add in their own unique twist. For example, the Lizards are religious converters, the Eyrie are a militaristic, organised legion of birds, and the riverfolk are traders on the waterways. If you already have the board game, the video game is a good way to practise in order to beat the table next time, or to become familiar with another faction before bringing it to the table. As a keen strategy genre fan (keen on AoE2, Civ6, Chess, etc.), Root stands out as being one of the deepest games in terms of knowledge required for mastery, however, it also holds a surprising simplicity to learn another faction after learning the original rules of the game. Art/Soundtrack Root has a very unique art style, as if bringing the board game to life. It also has a very good country/folk-style soundtrack to accompany it, exclusive to steam (as it is not on Spotify). Would I recommend? Anyone who enjoys highly strategic games will love this game. This includes anyone who wants to be challenged to master a whole new gameplay system based on traditional board game rules. In some ways it is like learning a language: you learn the components, and string them together to create a new result with each faction. Do buy if: [*] You enjoy the strategy genre [*] You want to practise for the board game [*] You just want to see cats chase mice (Or vice versa!) Do not buy if: [*] Unwilling to learn new rules/exceptions to these rules [*] Not keen on strategy games If in the unlikely case you do buy this game, do not like it, and forget to refund in the 2h gameplay window, do not fear. You can always just play the Vagabond every game.

Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1.57/day in the week to Jul 31 → 3.86/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Melhor jogo no estilo de "war" que já joguei. Para quem quer jogar antes de comprar a versão física é uma ótima pedida, até para aprender as regras e se ambientar entre as facções. Vale muito a pena.
Not bad but maybe I was expecting something different.
