The AI is really dumb
it's a neat game, very helpful for learning the rules with some guardrails imposed to keep you from messing things up like improper item use / move restrictions that you might forget about on a physical board. (the little things, like vagabond needing two boots to enter clearings with any hostile enemy pieces), and cheap to try if you're interested in the real thing for a game night. while there are solo challenges for some spice, the game is best played with at least two other friends on voice chat so you can table talk and politic. don't forget to turn off battle animations to keep the game moving! if at low player counts, i rec the hireling dlc, adds mini playable factions that rotate control to help fill out the board and adds much more variety
Fun!
Great video game port of a great board game. Simple as that The multiplayer is definitely rife with annoying issues (not being able to change settings IN the waiting room and there's a lot of desyncs AND no steam invite integration is... annoying) but apart from that it gives an applicable way to play Root single player as well as letting people learn factions as they go. But Multiplayer DLC sharing is a nice touch (if you use draft mode ofc) Good game.
I was introduced to this game at a boardgame convention by some of my friends and I played as the vagabond there and "won" (We got some rules wrong but eh). Overall the base version of this game is 4 different games packed on a single victory track, each faction plays differently and offers different paths to achieve victory, not to mention the dominance cards which throw all of that out and offer you new victory patterns. The replayability of this game is excellent and it is well worth its price.
Game is good players are garbage. Behaviour vise. 2 out of 3 games.... yeah, I'm done with it only playing with someone I know from now on. Leavers and absolutly horrible sportmanship.
Peak game design.
