About
About ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN
Take control of the protagonist Romeo Stargazer in this third person singleplayer action adventure, split into various chapters. His story is both unpredictable and littered with intense battles, interspersed with side missions to suit the player's pace.
A story that transcends space-time
This game's story starts with space-time itself being shattered by a certain incident. Romeo, too, on the brink of life and death finds himself revived by a new kind of super technology. Thus he is recruited for the FBI's Space-Time Police as a special agent, and wanders the cosmos in search of criminals who've taken advantage of the situation at hand in an attempt to bring justice back to the universe. At the same time, he looks for clues concerning his missing girlfriend Juliet, and quickly comes to find both her disappearance and the destruction of space may be more linked than he thought. Donning the mask called Deadgear, what awaits Romeo at the edges of space-time?
Fight blood with blood
Romeo switches between swords and guns to fight. Wipe out the waves of enemies that stand in your path to give birth to a new kind of bloody action, and take down the fearsome space-time criminals that await. Absorb the blood of your enemies to unleash Romeo's special attack: Bloody Summer, capable of turning any situation around. Romeo's various weapons can be strengthened and altered as the story moves forward as he takes on even stronger enemies.

Reviews
I'm a big fan of SUDA51 so I was excited for ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN, and the fact that this is my 100th review is a happy coincidence, but in the interest of transparency I do want to be clear that I am huge fan of Grasshopper so this is not a review from a neutral standpoint. ------------------------------------------------------------------- “O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?” Alright, obvious bit aside it’s actually a good question in this case since this game is wacky. ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN is the newest game by Grasshopper and has a lot of the things you may have come to expect from them. Action hack-and-slash, weird plot, mixed art styles and references to other cult media. As I did with my Travis Strikes Again review I’m going to split this review into two parts, that being a surface critique (surface as in the part you interface with, not surface as in surface-level) and a deeper dive. ROMEO IS A DEAD MAN, which we’ll just call RDM going forward, is mechanically similar to No More Heroes 3’s hack-and-slash gameplay but with the addition of a firearm for ranged combat and striking weak points. Furthermore abilities in this game come from an odd pokemon system in which instead of the magic attacks from your gauntlet in NMH3 you summon a zombie to do a move. It’s responsive and feels pretty good and there’s decent enemy variety. Each level has a little gimmick that prevents them from feeling samey and none overstay their welcome. There’s a frankly baffling mechanic though I do want to mention. For some reason multiple times per level you will be forced to go through slow, maze sections with no combat that all take place in the same environment. I have no idea why these “sub-space” sections are in the game, but they are easily the worst part of the game. They’re not deal breaking, but fair warning they are there, and honestly you may just want to search for a map because they are such a slog. That aside the game is fun to play and has plenty of content. Visually the game is very sharp, the varied visuals and high contrast colors produce rapidly changing arenas of violence. Musically this game is on the weaker side. There are some really good tracks, but most just come and go, no No More Heroes 2 is this. Stylistically I don’t think this is one of Grasshoppers finest games, but it works well and stands head-and-shoulders above a lot of games. As for the story, and the deeper dive section, it’s a hard one to talk about because it’s so all over the place, I think intentionally. The basic plot is that Romeo has to kill space criminals and find his girlfriend. There’s layers to it though since the setting involves time being shattered so part of the meta-game is figuring out what’s actually going on. Where/when are “we” and what is a remnant of another time or place. This makes for a fun story because you get to play detective, but also a somewhat frustrating one because the parts don’t fit together super well. That said there’s an underlying something in RDM that compels me though. It has something to say about people and relationships and how we affect each other, but extracting that from the game requires some effort. I don’t fault it for that since the point of sub-text is that you have to dig for it. I do hope Grasshopper’s next game is a bit more focused, but more for my own taste than because there’s something wrong with RDM. In fact I recommend Romeo is a Dead Man even though it’s a bit artsy and may not gel with everyone. I think it’s important that games like this are made and experienced. Even without engaging with that narrative depth I think it’s a good action game and worth playing.

SHEDEVRRRRR
Trash game, you gotta be high on your own farts to like this thing. Bad combat, ugly visuals that look like mushed together asset packs, the plot is apparently told to you on the trailer, no heart. Suda really phoned this one in.
es un absoluto viaje psicodelico
