This game had potential, unfortunately the original developers were scammed into releasing it to crooks who promised to update and help build their game. Instead the scammer bankrupt the developers and the game stopped updating and died. Don't buy this game, its unfinished, buggy and unbalanced. It looks awesome but you get maybe 4-5 hours playtime and some enemies one shot you while others you one shot. You clip into walls, fall through the world, get lit up by invisible foe's, and many more irritating problems. If you have to play it get it for 2$ or less

Rogue Islands is a roguelike game where you, as a wizard, have to find and defeat one boss after another in Minecraft-like environments. It's a voxel design similar to Minecraft but feels more alive than derivative because of its increased levels of detail. You start out with a wand that has a long-range but deals little damage. Thankfully, you don’t have to perfectly aim at an enemy in order to hit them because it fires a projectile that acts as a missile. The environment is destructible, but there are no building-blocks to store, only consumable minerals required to develop your character’s magic. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1904076423 Despite being able to defy the laws of gravity with hovering and boost jumps, you can still get fall damage, which can happen very often due to the short amount of time that you're able to fly. Pros +Minecraft vibes +Controller support +A great variety of environments Cons -No checkpoints -Lack of tutorial -No coop (yet?) https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1904076586 The good news is that it's possible to increase the duration of your ability to fly by defeating foes, since most of them will drop essences that can be used to develop this ability. But watch out, because all the encounters are randomized and you can find very hard opponents right after leaving the spawn zone; it would be better if it had a more progressive difficulty curve. Generally speaking, the more enemies you kill, the faster you move, which in turn grants more chances to unlock better weaponry. The game has no checkpoints, meaning that if you die, you will have to start from the very beginning. The lowest difficulty will give you some room to breathe, but there is not much difference between the game's difficulties. I don’t consider this a negative point since permadeath is a part of rogue-like games. However, the game also burdens you with survival mechanics, such as the hunger meter. You will need to find food every minute or you will start starving, which in turn drains your HP. This can lead to early deaths while you struggle to find something to forage. Night is the game's most dangerous time, where new and invincible magical creatures appear. The best way to deal with them is not to! To avoid detection, you can retreat to your ship to take a nap until the next sunrise, or try to locate a special berry that grants invisibility - although only temporarily. Whether you want to take the risk to continue to explore is up to you. Rogue Islands is priced quite reasonably: For the cost of a coffee you can have a few hours of entertainment (minus the early suffering as you learn the game's rules). However, because it doesn't provide a fair tutorial or an introductory island in a game where permadeath is involved and other mechanics, it feels overwhelming. Each island can be completed in half an hour, adding up to a total of around 4 hours to complete a full run. A higher difficulty will require more time for each level since you'll probably slow down to avoid making mistakes.
Conclusion
In general, Rogue Islands does a good job at making itself different from other voxel games. Despite that, I wish the game had more traditional resource collecting, instead of lots of blocks you can't pick up and use. The game would be much better if co-op could be implemented, as well. And last but not least, an optional mode to be able to save your game would be lovely. Sure, permadeath makes the game suspenseful, but if I just want to explore the environment to learn how to play the game better, savepoints would take away the stress of being punished for simple mistakes.

Yeah this game looked promising, but it never get any changes really. The difficulty/tutorial is pretty blank too, should only be worth like 5 dollars IMO. 5/10.
Decent presentation and theme, especially for its price point (I think I paid ~$1.25?). Not fun in the least, though.
4 years i've waited for this game to add SOMETHING. Nothing. DO NOT BUY THIS TRASH
+ very beautiful graphics and levels + later movement modes are very satisfying to practice + the enemies have very distinct modes of attack - sometimes the cherries are really hard to pick:)
