The game has been on my Wishlist for a while and I am happy to see it release and have played it for a bit over an hour at the time of writing. So far the gameplay has been good! Having tried with mouse & keyboard then controller/deck I would recommend a controller/deck if you can as it definitely feels more natural. My initial approach of charging right in with guns and missiles stopped working a few levels in and I found being more tactical with picking the mobs to clear and using handbrake turns to dodge and gain position became essential. Overall a good experience, look forward to seeing how this develops and how deep of a run I can get.
Rogue Eclipse feels like a proof of concept rather than a full-fledged game. The lack of variety means you will see the same zones and enemies. This is hard to recommend in its current state. The studio’s next game might be a more fleshed-out and engaging experience.

Rad game. Go play it!!!
I haven't played many space flight shooters, but the ship combat feels really fast and fluid. Been opting for the railgun over the missiles - great to pierce through enemy ships!
THIS game has a lot of potential for now imma step away but it needs more detail like moons astroids idk stars kinda like everspace when i seen this i as hoping it would be like that is some ways . im rooting for u . its just too dark and plain to keep my attention maybe a story line too .ill make u one for free if u need help
Had and eye on the game from announcement and not disappointed. Great game would recommend!
Full disclosure: I was a beta tester on this game across several versions, and saw it evolve significantly in that time. Nonetheless, I have tried to remain objective in my review. I'm only a few hours in - having beaten the first "boss" and progressed the story at least one stage - but Rogue Eclipse is a promising arcade spaceflight-sim with a roguelite twist that is likely to please those looking for a somewhat challenging take on the genre. Comparisons have immediately been made to Star Fox, and there's definitely a hint of that here... but control-wise, Rogue Eclipse is probably closer to a fusion of something like Rogue Squadron 1 or 2 and the PC combat space-sims of yore, such as Wing Commander. Immediate pitch and yaw control is snappy on the analog sticks, but the key to mastering movement is to utilise your ship's "drift" on the left trigger; taking advantage of this to circle around large enemy cruisers or match their rate of acceleration is pretty satisfying once you get the hang of it, and fairly crucial to targeting their weak-points through the handy lock-on system on your craft. Difficulty is always a tricky subject when it comes to games that have roguelike or -lite systems, but what I've played so far feels just about right for "Normal" (called "Cadet" here); several star-cruisers and especially the first boss may be a genuine challenge, but you can succeed on even your first attempt if you're careful. Pro-tip: do NOT underestimate missile clusters or be afraid to back off if you need a breather! A fun variety of secondary weapons encourage experimentation on larger enemies (my favourite being the particle weapon) and in a typical rogue manner, you earn ship upgrades as you progress your current run, which all make a big difference in how your build develops. As for the audio: the soundtrack is a pulse-pounding, bassy mix of electronic synth, rock and distinctive Middle-Eastern/Asian influences, with a particular guitar riff standing out during the first boss battle. The three voice-actors I've heard so far all sound authentic and appropriate to the setting, with one I thought I recognised as an industry vet making quite an impression on their scene. I look forward to hearing more voiced lines both during missions and between them, where you receive some bonus narration as you make progress. Meanwhile, on the graphics front, the unique art direction (especially for your ship) and the Unreal-powered visuals shine; combat is almost always loaded with shiny particle effects, explosions, space debris, and contrasting background nebulae. I have a decent, mid-range setup (specs attached), but I easily clear 100+ FPS with everything on "Epic", and the game includes a Steam Deck preset for those on lower-spec machines. I did run into a minor UI bug with the mouse/controller input while swapping screens, but given how responsive developer HUSKRAFTS has been, I don't expect this will be an issue for long. Ultimately, my only lingering question surrounding Rogue Eclipse right now is how it will balance its longevity versus difficulty, but I can say that I am excited to get back to it and make progress in the story and try newly unlocked ship part combinations, which is a good sign for any game with this type of premise!
Very pretty environments, the music has a lovely retro vibe to it, the handling/aiming on the ships feels great and the combat is engaging and can be quite challenging - you're definitely under fire a lot! If you've been hankering for a Star-Fox kinda game with a roguelike twist, would recommend giving this a try. I have noticed a few bugs like the mouse going to top left of screen in main menu while a controller is plugged in, as well as a rather bassy mix to the FX, but I'm certain these will be fixed quickly. I'm interested to see where the story goes with this, as well as see what other upgrades there are in store!
Ah yes this is so much fun! 1hr in... awesome!
Fun concept, nice style, but somehow feels more like a tech demo than a finished game. One thing to point out, the upgrade system sucks, +2.5% top speed, +10% weapon range, c'mon.
