This is incredibly basic and after 40 mins I can't imagine playing any more as I haven't seen anything worth coming back for. I beat 3 zones, got a few unlocks, none of which really changed the game at all. There is no real sense of a story, no idea what I'm working towards, no indication of how many zones there are or if they are different in any way, same voice lines over and over again, and the fact it's a rogue like makes that worse because it means it could be dozens of hours before I find out.
I want to like this but the progression is basically non-existent. I get a notification saying I have unlocks but nothing actually changes in the menu where you select ship components. The mook enemies are literally filler and the starships are almost fun to fight but it feels almost random whether you make a successful strafing run or lose half your health. Sorry dev, maybe I'll come back to this after some updates.

Game is pretty good so far. Definitely play this with a controller. The rounds feel engaging, the combat is fast-paced and I love the customization so far. The game could use a little more optimization imo, there are a lot of frame drops when playing on steam deck (and I am playing on the optimized for deck launch mode). However, if you are fine with ~30fps, you won't really notice the drops. I know it's a big ask, but I'd love to see a first person/cockpit mode to make this feel even more intense.
This came up on my calendar as it was relevant to my interests. I've played around with it a littler, and decided even very early on this game is worthy of praise. The movement and combat are fast and frenetic, but feel accessible and not at all overwhelming at first. It feel satisfying to blow up enemies and pull sick space-drifts. As of the time of writing there's a negative review citing terrible mouse controls. I recommend playing this game with a controller. I do have a handful of small critiques. - The story probably needs a little more front-loading if at all possible. The initial dialogue feels odd and out of place without a precursor. - It appears to be a rogue like, but upon dying I get a mission failed screen with a score etc. I might need to delve deeper but if its a rogue like and I'm unlocking new things - is this failure? just a minor nit-pick around terminology. - A map of sectors and perhaps a goal would be nice. something like what void crew and other roguelike games do when jumping from sector to sector? It's hard for me to visualise what I'm actually trying to accomplish here. Overall, glad I picked this up and excited to play more. Highly recommend for fans of Star Fox, House of the Dying Sun, Everspace etc.
There is probably potential here, but the controls are really strange and there is no possibility to edit them. I think you should make the ship roll on right stick instead of using shoulder buttons because there is some next level motor skills required to boost/brake/roll with both shoulder and triggers at the same time. It becomes really tedous trying to navigare the ship, and none of the presets cater to this. Im not saying the game is bad, but to me the controls make it a frustrating experience which i dont really have the energy to get into atm, Edit: also, is the sound supposed to be so muffled? It might be a artistic choice for it, but to me it converges into a bass heavy noisy environment that doesn't really give me the dopamine kicks id hope for when i shoot things
Good Gameplay loop. Needs remappable controls. Good for casual fun. upgrades are inconsequential and the game resets you before you're even able to snowball at all. Miniscule amounts available to maintain situational awareness and dodge incoming fire aside from jinking and hoping for the best. The collision boxes inside the final bosses are flappy bird levels of infuriating. (The 2 horizontal pillars specifically) Implement a target lock camera. I want to like the game. I think it's got the sauce. Lack of features and basic QoL makes it feel like an Early Access. Hopefully my purchase and others motivates the dev (solo dev btw) to evolve the game.
So far this game's been incredibly fun. It plays like a combination of Armoured Core and Star Fox, and overall feels very slick! There does seem to be an issue with input not working after alt-tabbing, but I'm sure that this'll be patched out in due time.
Rogue Eclipse is a joy - as a full disclaimer I've been playing beta versions of the game for what feels like years - though even in the early days it was very clear that it was destined to become a gem. Flight feels *so* good, to the point it made me really wish for more from the recent Starfox remaster. HUSKRAFTS have absolutely nailed the feel of space combat, and wrapped it up in a universe of intrigue and delight. Some of these boss fights are hard as nails (I.. still find it very hard to play on anything higher than the easiest setting :D ) but everytime I explode into little bits of space craft, I look forward to pushing the "RETRY" button.. make sure you play with a controller though :D
It's a fun indie Starship combat game, but unfortunately it just feels lacking in a way. I'm a fan of "Chorus" and how that game just hits with it's snappy flight controls. I can see some similarities, but doesn't exactly capture what that title does for me. I may come back later after to this after a few patches, but for now it's a no for me. :/
