Much has changed since I last played, so I took an hour out of my day to replay and re-review this game. First of all I'd like to thank you Zaxtor for actually reading my review and responding professionally. First of all the tutorial section is quite good and skims over most of the games mechanics without making it boring. You are given free reign to do what you'd like as you fly around, not that there is much to do, but being able to learn the controls is nice. The tutorial voice overs were personally a bit cringey but fit for a younger audience, and work well for that audience. The only real issue I have with the tutorial is that the AI should disappear when the ET power-up is removed, but this isn't really a major flaw just a personal preference and the 60 FPS thing. I'm not sure if it was a joke as it was said so seriously, but just a heads up if it was serious, we can see over 60 fps and I would very much recommend a max frame-rate in the game of 120 - 200 (maybe a slider can assist with this). The AI in the beginning of the tutorial was a great way to assist players as well as displaying that they can use this character within the game. The explanation for the multiple earths blowing up was also a cool way to show that its not just one earth being spammed across the screen and add a bit of story to the game. The explanation of the UI is done very well even though the UI is still very poorly designed, I feel as though it could do with an overhaul, maybe use Spacewar or Asteroids as a reference to this as their HUD's worked really well, but I do understand that the UI is advanced and you can't really just throw it about, still a single or gradient color would be much nicer and easier on the eyes. The quick mention of the Galactic Update Centre and what it does was handy and a very nice way to introduce an upgrade system without forcing players to go through it or listen to you talk at length about upgrades. I also like that you added audio sliders and a quick skip to the introduction, made the games start-up much more bearable. The flashing pick-ups are a great addition and made the ores and other objects much more visible, this made differentiating between them much easier and I was able to play without accidentally slamming into rocks, which was good. Although I still feel as though this game could do with a few fixes. As I have mentioned the UI needs a single color or gradient color and the text needs to be a little clearer in my opinion. Alongside this an option to be able to skip the earths blowing up would be nice but apart from that good job updating everything.
Entertaining Game at an Incredible Price
We were fortunate enough to get a preview of this game when it was in the very early Beta stages and was just an emerging concept. This game has really come so far in a short time especially in the past few weeks. We have seen numerous updates and improvements made. ZaxtorGames has been very receptive to questions, problem reports, and suggestions to improve the game feel and experience. In fact, we've seen several of them implemented. This is such a fun game that you can choose to play either with a keyboard and mouse or with a controller depending on your preference. Personally, we love the controller experience because it gives us better maneuverability and control. The movement and game mechanics do take some getting used to, but it really doesn't take all the long to get your space legs and feel for the controls. The concept and story are very cool. When the GEOS were introduced, we felt that it really added something extra to the game and made your gameplay decisions carry some weight. Now the player can earn a chance to save the world and see how your choice of gameplay can impact the outcome. One of our very favorite aspects of the game, besides the original assets, are the voice and sound effects. I, Nicole, loved getting cheered on at the end of each level if I scored an accuracy bonus. This game is such an incredibly unique experience. We were absolutely blown away when we saw the listed price for the game! You really get an amazing value for your money with this game. We've already played 11+ hours in the past week alone and expect to play many more. While some of the levels and enemies can become very difficult, you do learn strategies and progress as you become more experienced. We welcome the challenge to improve and meet the special VDS killer I keep hearing about! In short, we would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the game for it's entertainment value and price tag alone. Almost anyone would enjoy this game and should definitely give it a try! For those who haven't had a chance to play it, we're also including a link to some of our game coverage so you can see it in action for yourself. Rock 'N Roll is a remake of the classic Asteroids. Though honestly, I believe this game to be one of Zaxtor's better games. Yes it is another remake, although this time it felt as if a lot more work and passion went into making this. There is an extensive list of achievements which provided me with some sort of goal, along with Steam leaderboards. Tutorial was there, voiced over and informative (may I add the narrator sounds exactly like Olan Rogers in Final Space). The game itself was fun, had a lot more depth than other games and replayability. I personally did not like the movement, felt very slow and very difficult to learn and get use to. The turning was extremely frustrating and to be honest, I almost refused to play the game a few minutes in. The asteroids also look the exact same as G.E.O.S. gems which was quite annoying as well to get use to. Honestly, I would have given this game a mixed rating if it were possible. It is one of his better games, a lot more effort spent in to this one although still a lot to improve on to make it worth spending $13AUD for a remake of Asteroids.
Welcome back to the Old Arcade!!! Desinitely one addictive little game, plenty of fun and stress that will make you want to tear your hair out. Simple style, easy to understand, difficult to master.
This game is truly a lot of fun! It's a blast from the past! It's like a more advanced version of the kickass games I used to play as a kid in the arcade! It's definitely worth the price. I used to spend WAY more on quarters on the arcade machines every time I'd die... (Which was A LOT!) lol I'd definitely pick it up. Totally worth it!
Incredible old-school arcade game for just a small price of 3$ (CAD) Rock n' Roll sets you up in a simplistic design with a really hard time learning how to master the games mechanics. The games about trying to save the people you love by trying to smash some asteroids and aliens with a slithery giant space snake assisting them in this top down, classic arcade, space shooter. The game is excellently coded with 1-2 little scratches from a developer who made this game on their own. The music and funny voiced lines, and text such as when you're being shot out of a cannon was comical. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys a flashback to any style arcade machine-made game.
Love it! Although there are some minor flaws (expected at this stage of developement), this game has a lot of potential and is defenetly worth the price
great game i wish more arcade games would be expanded on
This game takes me back to my childhood. I think it was inspired by my second favorite arcade game Astroids by Atari. Rock 'N Roll has the same feel but eanough differences to make it unique. I really enjoy the boss battles like the giant astroids . Im looking forward to many hours of this game I can't recomend it enough.
First off, the game reminds me of bully when you're in the comic store on the machines in the mission. It was dope, very challenging and the boss sounds are fun to hear, tnt is the remedy. cons - When you die your settings reset, at least for me. - Not really a con, but it's hard, and you'll wanna pull your hair out. pros - Good fun, loved playing it beat a level on the easiest difficulty so i guess im a chicken. - Reminded me of my favorite game bully - Developer is a dope guy. - Art style - Can sell space junk - Everyone on earth died because of me ( That is not good, but ya know) - Keeps you entertained. I would recommend this game if you're looking to burn time before work, school etc.
