just another pc port? no it feels tuned, can manual reload, weapons feel and look good, if you have vr give it a try
It's Roboquest except you are the Robo. One of the top Roguelike games, with very few others coming even remotely close. The guns are varied and exciting to use, the affixes on them vary wildly and add a top of depth and player power, and the overall upgrade system is impactful. It's a game that knows a roguelike needs a feeling of progression and evolution as you unlock more stuff, not just a linear checklist as you clear areas. So you've got unlockable classes, a full skill tree, secrets galore, and multiple routes through the game, some of which require you to perform tasks like speedrunning, platforming, surviving a gauntlet, or finding items in other areas. It has a LOT for you to do, and even multiplayer! For the most part, it has everything from the flatscreen version of Roboquest except for the Dead Cells collab as far as I can tell. (Also I wish the VR space had a better name for not-VR besides flatscreen, it's kind of a dorky way to refer to how gaming has been for 40+ years) If I have any complaints, it's that the VR implementation adds a few issues and complications that make it harder than regular Roboquest and somewhat fiddly. Most of my issues have to do with controls. Pressing up on the stick to jump is not very intuitive, I'd prefer it on a physical button. Same with swapping weapons, currently you swap weapons by reaching behind your back to grab it, but if you've ever played Roboquest you know you're gonna be hopping and bouncing and grinding around, so flopping your arm over your shoulder mid-fight is finicky and sometimes will activate the character's ultimate on their chest instead. So, weapon swap and jump really should have the option to be put on a button. I'm also not a fan of melee in this game's current state. It just does not work sometimes, either by not activating or activating too early and missing. The most consistent way to melee I've found is by thrusting forward, but even then that isn't guaranteed. This makes melee weapons as well as melee abilities kind of suicidal for pretty much the same reward as firing a gun but also you're point blank when the enemy decides your desperate flailing is kind of annoying and murders you. Making it so melee attacks can be activated by pressing the firing button would probably help make it work like it should, as well as mitigate the awkwardness involved in trying to use a melee weapon with an internal cooldown timer that your arms are not aware of. And lastly, though this is more of a personal nitpick, as much as I love VR interactions in games this is one where I quickly stopped playing with manual reload. The game's just too fast paced with too many different weapons that reload in too many different ways for me to want that. So! Roboquest VR is a solid VR title for sure, with a few bits of the awkwardness you get from strapping a hunk of plastic to your face.

Loved the flatscreen version of the game but the VR edition takes it up a notch so much fun having a blast playing the game. Testing out all the different abilities you get as you can change characters, weapons that are in the game is awesome been running around with akimbo smgs and grenade launcher. Gameplay is super fun and addicting keep coming back for more! You can unlock power ups from collecting wrenches and spend them on the upgraded. Anyone who like Great roguelike games will love this!
Amazing game! It does not feel like a mere "port" to be honest, more like its own thing, while keeping pretty much all elements of the original. The original RQ is great in its own right (played a lot on Game Pass back in the day) but RQVR makes it almost a bit better. 25 € is an absolutely fair price for what you get, imho. If you have a VR headset and like fast-paced first person shooters, definitely give it a try! Overall controls are really good, gunplay feels crisp, and I -still- love the soundtrack :D Gun variation seems to be extended in the coming days and co-op will be added as well, which I'm excited about. I was kinda hoping RQVR and RQ could play together, but it seems the game systems differ too much unfortunately, but that's just a minor downside. Alas, the game is really awesome and you should try it out!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic VR roguelite shooter — multiplayer is a blast! This was my first time playing Roboquest, and VR turned out to be a great way to experience it. The movement feels smooth, the gunplay is punchy and satisfying, and blasting through runs with a friend is exactly as chaotic and fun as you'd hope. I kept coming back for more sessions — it's got that "one more run" pull that the best roguelites have. What really excites me is where this could go. The core loop is already rock solid, and having co-op in VR is something very few shooters in this space pull off. If the devs keep building on this foundation — smoothing out the multiplayer experience, adding more content over time — this could easily become the go-to co-op VR roguelite. The potential here is huge. Since multiplayer is still fresh, a few friendly notes from our sessions that I hope help the devs polish it up: Session flow could be smoother. It wasn't obvious at first that we needed to head to the camper to actually start a run — we assumed creating a group would kick things off automatically. A small prompt or highlight would help a lot. Room codes are a bit long, and once a session ends, the old code is dead, so we had to spin up a fresh room each time. Shorter, reusable codes would be a quality-of-life win. Also, the join code field placement felt a little unusual compared to most games (it's on the right) — even just a green highlight to draw the eye would help. Reconnecting needs some love. After a lost session (Steam Link paused the game on my end), I got stuck on a loading screen and couldn't rejoin. And when our squad wiped, the host sometimes ended up in a broken state that forced a full session restart. Minor VR polish items: two-handing the Comet Cannon feels awkward (it wants to point straight up), and usernames render in front of the journal log, blocking the text. To the devs: keep it up. The hard part — making the game genuinely fun — is already done, and it shows. I'm invested in seeing this grow, I'll be following updates closely, and I'll be jumping back in as they land. None of these issues stopped us from having a great time. Easy recommend for any VR shooter fan who wants to get in early on something special.
Having put some time into the flatscreen version, I can say from what I've played that Roboquest VR is a really well done port. Gunplay still feels fast and exciting and this version puts you right there in the action. From what I can see everything from the flatscreen version has made it across, from the classes with their varied abilites, to the range of gadgets that can expand your movement options further. Some changes have obviously been made to make it more intuitive for Virtual Reality. The option to choose between manual and single button reloading is a nice addition, as is the fact that throwing weapons lock on to enemies, so you don't need to try predicting your angles in the middle of combat. All the standard VR options are there from seated mode to dominant hand selection and movement stick selection. As a left-handed player who also moves with the left stick, that was very nice to see. Button prompts also seemed to match correctly once I swapped everything as well, which was a pleasant surprise compared to other games I've played in the past. Something not so great though, is that heavy weapons like the minigun and flamethrower seem to flip out when gripping with two hands and make it impossible to aim. I'm assuming this is either a bug or unintended interaction that will hopefully get fixed very soon. Keeping that in mind though, if you're looking for a fast-paced VR Roguelite with a ton of varied weapons and upgrades, this is definitely one to consider and if you're a fan of the flatscreen version then I would say it's worth picking up.
This isn't 'Roboquest VR' It's 'RoboQuest but they bolted VR controls to it.' If they where going to do that, might have just as well made it a update/DLC for the original game.
After you work out what to do, its not bad if you like shooting stuff, which i do... there are a few quirks, such as its seemingly geared towards rushing through the levels, whereas i prefer to thoroughly kill everything.
That's how you do a VR FPS Rogue-lite
Alright, do you already know Roboquest ? I did try it and loved it during a previous Steam Next Fest and enjoyed the demo. However, now we have a VR version of it. And it really changes how the game handles. You get to take even more enjoyment handling combos of robot kills with your weapons and skillfully dash and run around, bumping on robots heads to defeat them. Either with a revolver, automatic dual SMGs, throwing knives and hatchets, pistols, or flamethrowers, and I'm missing a lot. My favorite? ABSOLUTELY THE BOW. From playing The Lab a lot, I've become quite accustomed to it, and while I haven't decided to continue going to a bow shooting club in real life, I've been really doing plenty of trailer-worthy kills with it. Plus, there's quite a lot of content to unlock and find, with optional loot rooms and branches in the game. The game also has plenty of movement options to allow you to play with, with rail grinding, dashes, double jumps, and slides, which can really make the action feel hectic but fun. The game even gives you boss battles every three levels or so to spice up the runs. A game I would continue to play during hours-long sessions in the future. Absolutely a VR pearl. RoboQuest, which already had high-octane gunplay with fast and smooth action, received a VR upgrade! Meaning now, the intense firefights and level rushes are even *more* immersive and in-your-face! Not only that, it also received multiplayer co-op for FREE, so now your friends can join in! The game features a main hub where players can outfit their chosen class with appropriate gear for each mission, and that is where this game *really* shines in its arsenal and player class choices! There's so many types of classes that each feature their own skillset and strengths and boast their own set of preferred weapons or even traversal methods. As you upgrade your class you get even more abilities and ways to blast through the missions as well as weapon upgrades and damage modifiers. The story progression is mostly simple through one-screen illustrations and text, comic book style, but delivers the message finely and before you know it you're in the action! Even when you play through the different acts, you will find yourself replaying them with different classes and loadouts for a whole new feeling! When you really get good and upgraded and used to fast speeds, you will be flying through and just eviscerating the enemies! Highly suggest this game if you have at least 1-2 friends to do runs with.
