About
Steel Seed — a gripping action-adventure game from the visionary team behind the critically acclaimed Close to the Sun, set in a dark sci-fi world where humanity stands on the brink of extinction. Join protagonist Zoe and her flying drone companion, KOBY, as they investigate the depths of a hostile underground facility in search of answers and the key to the survival of mankind.
After a catastrophic event rendered Earth uninhabitable, machines took control of the remnants of humanity’s survival. The underground facility is a vast, machine-built structure designed for machines — not humans. Each region presents unique environmental storytelling, hazards, and secrets waiting to be uncovered. From towering industrial landscapes to eerie biodomes, the world of Steel Seed is as haunting as it is immersive. Explore a hand-crafted world filled with dynamic combat, formidable enemies, and an immersive narrative that challenges the very definition of humanity.
Zoe isn’t alone — her only ally is Koby, a prototype drone designed to assist her. Initially just a tool, Koby becomes a crucial partner, offering guidance and solving puzzles through environmental interactions. Though it communicates only through chirps and visual cues, Koby becomes Zoe’s emotional anchor in an otherwise desolate world. They create a formidable duo by working together and bringing something new to every fight.
Adapt your playstyle with a unique blend of stealth-action gameplay:
Stealth & Strategy – Utilize shadows, distractions, and the environment to evade or take down enemies.
Dynamic Combat – Face off against various enemy types and challenging bosses, each with unique abilities.
Upgradeable Abilities – Customize Zoe’s playstyle with three distinct skill trees featuring 40 different upgrades.
Highly interactive environments encourage creative problem-solving, making every encounter feel strategic and rewarding.
Steel Seed isn’t just about survival — it’s about exploring the fine line between human and machine, trust and control, resilience and despair. Revised and edited by BAFTA-winning writer Martin Korda, it pairs an intriguing main character's evolution with a compelling and deep narrative experience.

You've played this game before. It might not have been called Steel Seed, but it could have been Uncharted, Jedi: Survivor, Tomb Raider, Assassin's Creed, or any of the countless other titles that wear the Action-Adventure label. The specific mix of setting, gameplay, mechanics, and story might be unique, but if you've played third-person action-adventures, you've essentially played Steel Seed. It doesn't bring anything new to the table, and that lack of originality ends up hurting it more than anything else. Throughout my playthrough, I was constantly teetering on the edge of liking it more than it ever allowed me to. It exists in a frustrating limbo, full of visible potential that it stubbornly refuses to reach. Everything about it is simply "fine". The stealth is fine, the combat is fine, the levels are fine, the graphics are fine, the platforming is fine, the story is fine, and the writing… is really bad. There’s something here, or at least there could have been, but the game feels hell-bent on being the most bare-bones version of itself. It is 'A" 3D action-adventure built around melee combat, stealth, and platforming. Combat offers light and heavy attacks, timed dodges, light ranged options, and a handful of special abilities. Stealth involves sneaking up for takedowns, cover you’ll rarely use, and tall grass that’s been given a digital glow-up. Platforming consists of on-rails sections with minor parkour elements, and when I say “on-rails,” I mean it. Even climbing ledges is relegated to the infamous yellow paint. Yes, yellow paint. As I said, the game seems determined to be as average as possible. If my descriptions of the mechanics feel dry, it’s because they are. Whatever you’re already imagining based on past games is exactly what Steel Seed delivers. It functions. It works. It’s fine. For Narrative: Humanity stands on the brink of extinction. Our protagonist, Zoe, awakens in a mechanical body with a mission to save the world. She’s joined by Koby, a flying robot companion who acts as a scouting drone and ranged weapon in gameplay. Narratively, he points you in the right direction and provides banter. He communicates entirely in beeps and boops (A-la Star Wars), which Zoe understands perfectly. His existence is an in-universe excuse for the protagonist to constantly think out loud. And by god, does Zoe love to talk. I don’t know why modern writing seems so terrified of silence. Even if her word count per hour isn’t excessive, far too much of what she says feels like unnecessary observations and forced cheeky quips. It often breaks immersion. Zoe handles apocalyptic events with such casual nonchalance that her occasional deep, philosophical musings about human nature and sudden waves of empathy for the machines around her feel wildly out of character. Especially when she immediately goes back to shouting “Surprise!” during takedowns. The plot itself is inoffensive. You’re tasked with recovering fragments of your father’s memory and returning them to the supercomputer S4VI to save humanity. If you suspect there’s a twist about what’s really going on, I'll just let you know that in your first meeting with S4VI, you see him as a holographic solid-gold man playing chess by himself. Draw your own conclusions. I kept having the same thought while playing: "What if it was just 30% more?" The game is already basic. What if they simply made her run faster, hit harder, swing quicker, and made enemies more aggressive? What if the feel was sharper and more dynamic? Zoe herself looks like someone took Sharen from The First Descendant and dialed her sexiness and badassery down by about 30%. I’m not talking about difficulty; I’m talking about feel. What if upgrades meaningfully changed how she plays; turning her into a lethal cyber-assassin who dominates stealth, a hit-and-run speedster, or an absolute unit in direct combat? My point is that even after unlocking all her abilities, it still feels like the most simplified version possible, as if the developers were overly worried about balance. Steel Seed isn’t a AAA franchise with a built-in audience that will forgive mediocrity. It has neither the reputation nor the production values to stand out on name alone. It desperately needed something unique, and unfortunately, it doesn’t have it. I know I’m being harsh. Honestly, if you’re just looking for “another one of those games,” Steel Seed is perfectly serviceable. What frustrates me is how clearly I can see something bigger and better lurking beneath the surface. It’s not bad. It’s not great. It’s just… fine. And somehow, that makes it all the more disappointing.
Pure trash. If you wanted to make an animated movie, you should have done that and not wasted our time by calling it a game. Controls are ♥♥♥♥, dialogue is ♥♥♥♥, another perfect example of goyslop.
9/10 ------------------- ENG ------------------- A game that seems inspired by Yukito Kishiro's GUNNM (Battle Angel Alita), where we find ourselves in a dystopian future. Our protagonist has just awakened with no memory of their past, and faced with the circumstances and characters they encounter, they take action to save humanity. Although the plot isn't original, it's well-told and interesting from beginning to end, offering a storyline that becomes more engaging as we progress. While not the game's central focus, it's very good. The protagonist is very charismatic and manages to connect with the player. It's also fully dubbed in Spanish, and the voice actress's performance is excellent. The game is a combination of platforming, parkour, and stealth, achieving a very good result in its blend of these elements. Playing it is truly fun, and the character's controls and responsiveness are excellent. The level design is truly good and meticulously crafted, the atmosphere it creates is impressive, and its combination with the story generates a completely immersive experience. Although the character controls are really good, fluid, and responsive, making the platforming sections a joy to play, it would have been fantastic if the game had included mobile platforms. This is perhaps the only thing missing, and its inclusion could have been excellent. 9/10
Neat console-like experience, but kills Cell Shading at cut-scenes by last update.
I thought I've already reviewed the game all the way back in 2025, but it turns out I haven't! After spending lots of time playing it and replaying it, I fell in love with it more than ever. In fact I fell in love with it ever since the beginning, but with the time everything it made me witness made that love grow. Such an incredibly executed indie debut game is rare to witness! It has potential to be even more, but this game deserves all the applause for what it is - one of the most refined indie experiences I've had - the quality of the product is certainly leaning more towards AA, rather than indie. There's many qualities too that surpass the AA market and even has a potential to compete with AAA titles for some things. I honestly haven't seen another game present what we witnessed in this one in this particular way. I was completely drawn into its world, its characters and its story. I felt like I was in the Matrix! What an incredible experience. I also relate to the amazing looking protagonist. It was a joy getting to play her and her little new friend, who we made a strong connection with during the journey. I'd for sure update the review in a more formal way when I have the time to do so.
This game completely blew me away. Fast-paced, intense, stylish, and visually stunning from start to finish. Brutal when it needs to be, dark and mysterious throughout, and packed with action from the very first minute. Huge respect to the developers for creating such an incredible experience. Absolutely recommended.
Sooo, first of all. This game is very worth it and looks beautiful for indie tiitle. Recommended
