Area 05
Your road begins in Area 05, an evacuated zone located in the southeastern part of Finland. In Area 05, you will find shelters, traders, tasks, and starting loot for initial survival.
Your peaceful life in Area 05 is often interrupted by hostile Bandits, an anarchist group taking advantage of the lack of authority in the area.
Once you have gathered enough loot and equipment, your road continues toward the east, where you will find the Border Zone, a guarded border line between Finland and Russia.
Border Zone
Each Border Zone map has a crossing point with different challenges. Some crossing points may include mines or physical obstacles, while others require using waterways with boats.
On top of these challenges, the Border Zone is guarded by a group called Guards. These foreign border guards are armed, corrupt, and often rely on air support to prevent people from crossing the border.
Vostok
If you manage to cross the Border Zone, you will enter Vostok. Located in Russia, Vostok is a high-risk, high-reward zone and holds the most valuable loot in the game.
Every Vostok map is a permadeath map. If you die in Area 05 or Border Zone, you only lose the equipment and loot you're carrying, but if you die in Vostok, you lose everything.
Vostok is controlled by the Military, an armed troop with heavy weaponry and the ability to use armored vehicles. The Military faction is the most dangerous faction in the game, and they have one objective: to push you back where you came from.
Time of Day
The game uses a 24-hour day & night simulation where lighting conditions change dynamically with sun and moon cycles. You can manipulate game time by sleeping, but most of the time, you will need to prepare for darkness when roaming through the game world.
Weather
The game has randomized weather states that vary from sunny to dark skies with thunder and everything in between. If you are lucky, you may even see northern lights on a clear night sky.
Seasons
If you survive long enough, the game world will shift from summer to winter, and you will start facing issues related to snow and cold. You can also choose constant summer or winter modes for your playthrough.
Events
On top of the changing lighting conditions and weather, dynamic events occur every now and then in the game world. These events vary from small ambient sounds to aerial events, like airdrops and crash sites, to faction-based special events.
Scavenge
Every playthrough is a different experience where loot and luck are core components of game progression. Scavenge, trade, and craft hundreds of unique items based on real-world parameters and progressive loot tiers.
Loot Systems
The game uses physically-based loot and loot containers, where loot never spawns in the same places. You can find hundreds of loot items in each map, and anything that logically looks like storage for loot is an interactable loot container. You can find consumables, clothing, medical items, tools, electronics, weapons, attachments, and much more.
UI & Inventories
Handling loot and items is done through tetris-style inventories with dynamic icons, item combining, item stacking, and quick actions to make the looting experience seamless part of the game.
In-game Traders
You can trade items with in-game trader characters using an intuitive bartering system. Each trader is specialized in certain themes, like tools, medical supplies, weapons, and furniture.
Bartering
The trading system doesn’t use money and is purely based on bartering. All items are valued based on their post-apocalyptic usage value, where items like medical supplies, food, and even toilet paper might hold high value.
Tasks & Services
Traders can be used for tasks and services like medical care or weapon maintenance. The task system is based on trader levels, and through tasks, you can obtain rare items, unlock new shelters, and get clues to lore-based questions.
Safe Place to Save
Shelters are safe zones and places to store loot. Shelters are the only way to save your game, and you often need to utilize multiple shelters when traveling toward the east.
Multiple Homes
All shelters are different from each other in terms of size and customization possibilities. One shelter may be a small cabin, while another might be a large concrete bunker. Certain shelters are unlocked by default, but some are only available through keys that you need to earn through trader tasks.
Shelter Customization
All shelters have a default template in terms of furniture, but everything is customizable through a decoration mode. This mode can be activated inside the shelter and gives you the ability to modify all furniture-related elements. You can catalog, move, and rotate all existing furniture however you want, and you can acquire new furniture through crafting or trading.
Item Placement
Once you have your preferred shelter layout ready, you are ready to start placing items for storage. You can use furniture containers for storage, but you also have the ability to place individual items wherever you want. All items are physics-based, and once you place them, their positions save automatically when you exit the shelter.
Your Road, Your Character
Road to Vostok is a hardcore survival game, but it doesn’t force you into specific playstyles. You are not forced to enter the permadeath zone, you don’t have to care about the lore, and your character isn’t tied to any specific role or theme.
In some playthroughs, you can be a combat-oriented character with military gear, and in the next, you can be a lonely fisherman playing the harmonica on a remote island.
You create the story, the game provides you the tools.

Only 3 hours in and it's basically what I wanted from tarkov single player performance wise. Obviously with it being early access the depth isn't as much as tarkov but the dev is very transparent with the roadmap and I'm very excited to see the additions and growth. For $20 this is a no brainer buy.
I really really want to like this game. I'm still trying it but there is one glaring issue I just can't overlook. As much as I enjoy the running around scrounging for scraps gameplay. Even for someone who likes that kind of thing. There just isn't enough stuff to loot. So far the core gameplay loop is leave my safehouse, loot a couple houses, return, repeat. There is this really cool mode where you start in some random place with nothing and gotta find what you can to survive quickly. I spawned inside a market and searched every inch, every lootable thing and found nothing but a single mag for a weapon I didn't have. And when I do find a weapon, there's no mag. The scarcity of items is just too severe. And there isn't a melee option outside of a knife.. But you have to find a knife. So every playthrough I did in that random setting that I am really trying to enjoy just ends in me starving because I just can't find anything or I get killed with 0 options to defend myself. Sadly, I don't even have any other bad things to say. Everything else about the game is cool. But it's just too difficult to play. The game isn't too difficult as a game, it's being able to actually have a game to play that is the problem. You can't have gameplay if your players don't have a single resource for the gameplay to happen. I will keep playing, and hope it gets better. Maybe check in every once in a while after an update to see if it feels better. Cuz the game does have good bones.

+ Best performance I've ever seen in a game, just unheard of, getting 400+ to 500+ FPS while having nice, realistic graphics. Most devs can never achieve an even remotely acceptable level of performance no matter how many millions of dollars they have, let alone matching this games phenomenal performance. It is just so important & critical especially in a high stakes hardcore FPS. Even after investing millions, if anything, most games performance will become worse over the updates. - EXTREME lack of content, & lack of anything to do, the main problem of this game: There are 7 maps, 3 traders and their quests, but really it is just 1 map, & 1 trader. The rest is useless worthless filler. The quests can hardly be called quests. Some of the maps are mostly empty and exist for a single purpose, like the minefields just be a transitional area, or the outpost is empty and exists to house a single trader. - The only 1 map worth going to: The Vostok Apartments is the "endgame" area and also the "only game" area. Has the best & most abundant loot by far. Rarely encounter any enemies while grabbing massive loot so why go anywhere else? Max out here instantly, no reason to explore the other 6 maps, what do they even have to offer? In fact what does the game even have to offer you now that you are maxed? The Apartments is already the end game area & ultimate goal of the game and it is boring AF. ROAD TO VOSTOK? MORE LIKE SIDEWALK TO VOSTOK. No epic journey, just an average Finnish or Russians day. The apartments are EXTREMELY boring, The exact same 7 apartment blocks copy pasted with different doors open or closed with rarely any enemies. The starter areas are more fun and interesting but don't have loot so why bother. Once you done looting the Apartments, leave the area and come back to reset it and repeat. Start a new run, even on Ironman, with nothing at all, and easily waltz into the apartments without a fight and max out instantly, starvation along the way doesn't matter, the moment you get in you will instantly get food and easily find meds to heal up. It's funny how the apartments are safer & easier to loot than the starting areas. Only 10 enemies can spawn per map, and the Apartments area is so huge you will hardly encounter anyone. Never had anyone walk in on me. Starter areas you could be fighting 2 or 3 guys at a time, here it's only 1 by 1. There is nothing stopping you from going to the "endgame" zone, and no reason to stick to the early game area. You are more likely to get killed looking for a starter gun with matching mag & ammo in the starter area than just running straight to the apartments with nothing, which has safer and a guaranteed chance for better loot. The higher tier lvl 3 military here, compared to lvl 1 bandits in easy areas, I can't tell the difference. The minefields along the way? Just run along the edges, EZ. Why risk going through the center of the map, dodging the mines while fighting guards(if they decide to show up for work), also an invincible helicopter might spawn on you which can insta kill you too. I've done it, but high risk 0 reward, no loot. So skip the minefield. - Rubbish quests & useless traders: There are 3 traders but only 1 that is actually useful & worth trading with. The other 2 traders existence is just to be useless filler content and doing their quests is a complete waste of time. The first 2 traders, the Generalist & Doctor, 50%+ of their stock is worthless furniture, the other 50% is useless junk. The chances of the Generalist having something you need is very slim, the Doctor never even sells the only 1 medical item you actually need, the First Aid Kit that can actually heal head injuries that can quickly kill you, instead only sells useless basic meds that are already everywhere in the game. Tried rerolling the Docs inventory 10 times, same trash. The Generalist doesn't need to exist too, go over to the Apartments for guaranteed loot & better loot, all for free. What is ridiculous is that the only trader worth your time is the Gunsmith, but he only appears on Day 10. So you can spam sleep until Day 10 comes, or you can keep looting the Apartments until Day 10 to make sure you won't need anything he has to offer anymore. Even then he still might have 70% inventory of furniture for sale. QUESTS? Hardly can be called quests. Extremely unrewarding, just abysmal. You go find RNG loot that the traders want, you don't need to go anywhere specific, the loot is just RNG stuff you already normally find, so you just keep going to the apartments as usual, and in return they will give you sh*t, the only thing you do the quests for is the permanent stacking discount, 10 total, the item reward that they give is trash. The discount & quests aren't shared between traders so ignore the other 2 guys. Like the first useless trader, absolutely ridiculous, find 6 BEERS for him, it is already very rare to even find 1, find 6 and he will give you the lowest tier starter primary, a mosin with a fixed zoom long range scope? Long before you found even the first beer you are already maxed out. AR with variable zoom & supressor on Day 1 easy, 2 days max, plus a maxed SMG secondary. 1 or 2 quests might ask you to do something different for once, but same abysmal reward. - Rubbish legendary guns, and so easy to max out All you really need is a single gun with a variable zoom scope, it can fit on any AR/SMG. It's nice to have a laser for the SMG for CQC but not necessary. Nothing else you really need, the standard issue AR & SMGS are common, infinite ammo, long before you current AR/SMG reaches 50% durability where it begins to jam, you already can easily find another one with high durability and swap out. The suppressors aren't hard to find either but don't seem to make much difference, if any at all. Why bother to find rare & expensive repair kits if there is no reason to repair? - Legendary guns? Not exciting or worth it at all. The game is so easy with a standard issue AR/SMG. Most of the rare weapons with rare ammo seem to have the same stats as the normal guns, some are just straight up worse, like the legendary KP-31 SMG can't accept any attatchments, not even a laser, the ultimate CQC attachment and still has the same performance, recoil & stats as the normal SMGs, just a bigger mag that provides no advantage in this game, over having a 30 round mag with a proper sight, laser and supressor. Hardly get any ammo for any of these rare guns too, the Gunsmith doesn't even sell ammo for them, all too much hassle for minimal benefit that is even if the legendary gun even happens to have any benefit... Not to mention the hassle of having to keep repairing the legendary gun that isn't worth it when you can just keep picking up a new standard AR or SMG and swapping over your attatchments. Also the only difference between the legendary .308 and the cheaper more common .308 is that the legendary one has an ultra rare mag that only holds 20 rounds, the cheaper one holds 30 and is way more common. Why? OMG I just found a rare legendary VSS, an ultimate gun in any other game, but might as well hand it in for a quest for the Gunsmith for a permanent 10% discound instead of getting excited because my standard issue AR has better stats in everyway. It can't even equip laser or go into the secondary slot, so it can't even replace the SMG, the only way it could ever be useful. Useless, not to mention you have to now grind for the matching mags & ammo if you wanted to use a worse gun.
game truly makes you feel that perfect sense of loneliness and constant alertness, environment and ambient sounds are excellent. only issue is that the gun sounds, enemy AI chatter and footsteps sound like they're right next to my ear even though they are quite far away.i think it will be fixed asap, but still 10/10.
Ии душит, лучше в аномали гамма поиграть
Killed by AI shooting through walls and laser beam accuracy means instant headshots. Lost everything 5 minutes of walking out the starting house from AI that can see you through dozens of bushes. Just play Tarkov PVE if you want a game like this. There is a good game here beneath the cheating AI. Refunded for now...
4-March-2026 Pros: -It has guns and suppressors. Cons: -Ever see a person strafing 100 yards away and zip a dude in the head with a pistol? This game does it quite often. -This is not a "good tactical shooter". It requires absolutely zero tactics. -Beware of mass positive reviews in the review section. Most the positive reviews seem like fake, dev sponsored ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. -AI has an aimbot, no tactical sense and uber stealth shoes unless they are in extremely close proximity. -Backpacks don't let you hold more with a larger pack, they only increase weight capacity. -No compass or area map, only world map. -There is no real save system, you have to go all the way back to your cabin or you loose all your gear and loot if the game crashes, you exit to desktop or you die. To me, this seems less like a design choice and more like lazy developing. -Dialogue with NPC's consists of mumbling, akin to pigs farting. -Cabin is extremely small, severely limiting storage. -Most of the furniture is useless and serves no real purpose. -Items don't stack. -You can't sell your salvage and save up your resources. Only barter for mostly useless junk or store items in the extremely limited space in your cabin. -The demo is not representative of the actual gameplay. Loot in the demo is far more prolific and varied and of a much higher class than you'll find in the actual game. -There are only 5 maps currently. -There are substantially more flaws that I'm not going to bother listing. This "game" honestly seems like a Beta build with almost no actual balancing, poor design choices and an extremely stupid AI. Add in a clunky inventory controls and poor UI elements and playing is a chore. TLDR: This game is barebones. Skip it entirely or wait until it's inevitable price reduction to the 5 dollar range. Unturned is a far more rewarding experience and it's free.
although Road to Vostok is still in early access, it is one of the best single player tactical shooter games i have played. everything from managing your gear and loadout to the tactical awarness of your surroundings against AI vs player, i would defently like to see more side quests from the traders to keep you on your toes aside from the exsiting quests. i would also like to see more of a weapon veriety and explosives (like RPG) to take out the BTR for added excitement haha and other LMG & assult rifles ect. I am excited to see what Antti has in store and i cant wait for what this game has in store fore us!! as its still in early access there are acouple bugs such as light/ texture flickering at the traders and in the open, i would recommend Road to Vostok to everyone who love tactical survival shooters where every decition means keeping your saved game or having it wiped
Most likely the most boring game I've had the displeasure of playing........
The map is very empty, and the sound design has many logical flaws. It feels more like a demo.
