About
Rise of the Village Hero is a lighthearted indie RPG set in the charming Kingdom of Dobroja. Play as Guy, a hunter who returns home to find his village, Warlington, under attack by orcs and goblins. Fight to protect your home, uncover the cause of the chaos, and restore peace by exploring diverse lands, interacting with factions, and completing quests. Discover treasures, brave dungeons, and become the hero Dobroja needs!

Rise of the Village Hero offers a fair challenge. You start as a hunter facing an orc army — a fight you’re not yet prepared for. The game has a learning curve, so use health and stamina potions wisely, upgrade gear when you can, and avoid rushing into large enemy groups. Save often, as the game features permanent death, and use the quick save function to avoid losing progress. Movement is click-to-move, and the camera may take some getting used to — you’ll sometimes need to scroll up or zoom in to navigate around high obstacles.

Combat:
Combat is simple but enjoyable, combining melee and ranged attacks with a few useful abilities.
Players have mentioned how satisfying it is to fight monsters like orcs, skeletons, and ghosts, with the added challenge of permadeath making every encounter feel more tense and rewarding.
Abilities
Combat Ability: Whirlwind Pirouette

Use the Healing Chant to recover health. It consumes stamina and has a cooldown. Upgradeable to level 10, it can be purchased from shops, earned as a quest reward, or found in the world, offering players different ways to heal.
Dialogues, quests and leveling up:
NPC interactions are lighthearted, funny, and sassy, adding charm to the game, with serious moments for balance. The story is enriched through quests, dialogue, and the main theme of protecting your home and country.
Inventory management and shops:
Find a variety of loot throughout the world—dropped by enemies, hidden spots, or quest rewards. Manage your inventory with health potions, gear, and weapons. Sell surplus items to buy better equipment and gain the edge in your struggle.

Rise of the Village Hero is a charming RPG that keeps things simple yet engaging. The game offers an enjoyable mix of humour, straightforward combat, and a world that feels inviting to explore. The controls are easy to pick up, making it accessible for players of all experience levels. Combat is primarily handled through mouse clicks, with some hotbar abilities available. The fights feel responsive and rewarding, keeping the action engaging without being overly complicated. That said, I did run into some minor frustrations. The inventory system can be a bit clunky to navigate, and the camera occasionally gets in the way, especially in tighter spaces. Another issue I encountered was not knowing how to use certain items, like the bow. There doesn’t seem to be a clear system in place to explain item usage, which can lead to some confusion. However, since I’m still early in the game, it’s possible these are items I’ll be able to use later on. Despite these small issues, the overall experience has been fun. The game’s humour adds a lot to the journey, keeping things lighthearted and entertaining. What’s even more impressive is that this game was developed by a single person. They’ve managed to create something truly engaging—an RPG that’s easy to sit down with and sink hours into. I look forward to seeing what they create next!
This is a cute love-letter to Diablo style isometric/point-and-click type games. Music is solid, graphics are fine, runs smooth with no issues. There's no controller support, which is a *minor* inconvenience. I, personally, do not do well with keyboard and mouse gaming, as it hurts my wrists. I can use a controller for hours, no problem. That's no fault of the dev, of course! The controls are simple enough: Q to open/close quest tab, tab to open inventory, number keys to use items. Combat is straightforward, but can get challenging if multiple enemies swarm you. When you kill one enemy, you do not automatically start attacking the next one, and sometimes when clicking the combat doesn't engage but the enemy can hit you. Overall, a decent game and worth checking out. I live streamed my playthrough, which I have linked below. https://youtu.be/HJLWEyTUk1w Keep up the good work, Sil!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed playing this game. It took me back to the days of dungeon crawling in Diablo with more modern graphics, reminiscent of Runescape. The balance of the game was good and although some parts were unpolished or still being worked on you could tell there was a lot of love and craft that went into making it. There were some very funny lines and good dialogue. Beating the enemies felt good and there was a nice balance of main and side quests. I only completed the initial areas but looking forward to more with regular updates occurring.
You know that wholesome feeling you get with those classic RPGs? That's what you'll have with Rise of the Village Hero. A doomed village just waiting for a regular guy to become their beacon of hope! I loved the lighthearted dialogues with NPCs while you uncover the great mysteries of the story. I had a lot of fun playing this game with my viewers on Twitch! Had blast with this game, feels like an old ARPG and that is a really good thing! Cannot wait for the continuation. Gameplay here: https://youtu.be/OHUmd6yDd60
I have to say the level of jank in the game is strong. I have bought way better games for way less. If this were an early access game, I could recommend this. And, it would be different if ihe gameplay was fun. But, this is a finished game. There is no way I could recommend this game in its current state. I am putting in for a refund.
Rise of the Village Hero has a environmental design that reminds me a lot of old school games, most noticeably the style gives me that RuneScape vibe. I enjoyed the game for as far as I was able to get into it, which apparently was pretty far. The game has some good story beats with the dialogue that you get from the NPC's in the game as you learn the lore of this world from starting with nothing & rising in strength & power to save people from the Orc incursion. But that being said, I did notice some grammar issues, but that's something that is easily corrected & not a huge deal as I even see grammar mistakes in games like World of Warcraft (even ones that haven't been fixed since Vanilla!) The game is pretty generous with giving you things like HP/Stam potions, but the offset to that is the lack of NPC vendors to spend your gold on or to sell your overflowing backpack of items. Controls are simple & straight forwards & I didn't really have any issues with them, though I feel the camera could use a bit more work as it feels a little senstive, maybe a sensitivity slider in the options can fix that. Leveling up is something that feels random even though you are gaining EXP, there isn't like an EXP bar on the UI that lets you know how much EXP you have or how much more you need to level up. On the topic of the UI, the character UI needs a bit of work as the Equipment window icons feel like they are not in a more proper order. Speaking of leveling, allocating stat points feels like its lacking because unless you the player know the traditional tropes of allocating stat points, you won't really know where you should be allocating your points. Combat I feel needs a bit of work, because you carry a shield but there is no way to use it to further help mitigage or block incoming damage. It just seems like the shield is like a statstick for your defensive stat. Now as of this writing the game is in early access & the dev has been taking in feedback from the growing community that helps them improve & further polish this game which has a lot of potential. I appreciate the opportunity I was given by the dev to check out this game & I can't wait to jump back in down the line as this game gets more updates to it. I'll likely start over from the beginning so I can experience those changes as this game is that fun & would absolutly be worth starting over again, which when that happens I'll add an update to this review to document those changes that I experienced. I will say that mobs need to have a leash limit as you can see here: Mistakes Were Made
Having a good time with it so far! Looks real cool, gives a Runescape vibe on the gameplay which I love. Will be playing more of it, but highly recommended ! Here is some gameplay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=trjuyFXayJY
Un petit jeux indé avec un gros potentiel comme on les aimes , je l'ai testé en Live et on vois que le dev aime ce qu'il fais il y a du boulot mais c'est un bon début ^^
