About
Rise of the Village Hero is a lighthearted indie RPG set in the charming Kingdom of Dobroja. Play as Guy, a hunter who returns home to find his village, Warlington, under attack by orcs and goblins. Fight to protect your home, uncover the cause of the chaos, and restore peace by exploring diverse lands, interacting with factions, and completing quests. Discover treasures, brave dungeons, and become the hero Dobroja needs!

Rise of the Village Hero offers a fair challenge. You start as a hunter facing an orc army — a fight you’re not yet prepared for. The game has a learning curve, so use health and stamina potions wisely, upgrade gear when you can, and avoid rushing into large enemy groups. Save often, as the game features permanent death, and use the quick save function to avoid losing progress. Movement is click-to-move, and the camera may take some getting used to — you’ll sometimes need to scroll up or zoom in to navigate around high obstacles.

Combat:
Combat is simple but enjoyable, combining melee and ranged attacks with a few useful abilities.
Players have mentioned how satisfying it is to fight monsters like orcs, skeletons, and ghosts, with the added challenge of permadeath making every encounter feel more tense and rewarding.
Abilities
Combat Ability: Whirlwind Pirouette
Unlocked after the first tutorial quest, this skill deals damage to nearby enemies. It can be upgraded to level 5 by purchasing from shops and is best used when surrounded. Equip it via the quick action bar.
Healing ability: Healing chant
Use the Healing Chant to recover health. It consumes stamina and has a cooldown. Upgradeable to level 10, it can be purchased from shops, earned as a quest reward, or found in the world, offering players different ways to heal.
Dialogues, quests and leveling up:
NPC interactions are lighthearted, funny, and sassy, adding charm to the game, with serious moments for balance. The story is enriched through quests, dialogue, and the main theme of protecting your home and country.
Inventory management and shops:
Find a variety of loot throughout the world—dropped by enemies, hidden spots, or quest rewards. Manage your inventory with health potions, gear, and weapons. Sell surplus items to buy better equipment and gain the edge in your struggle.

Rise Of The Village Hero A game inspired by classic RPGs we all used to play and love when we were younger! Our village is under attack by orcs and other monsters! The town we lived in with all our friends and family has been overrun and we're just not having it! We are standing up for ourselves and for the people we love! We're going on quests to help them out by finding people or things they lost. And while we're doing that we're slaying all these monsters that turned today in a living Hell! The dialogue with the NPCs is funny and sassy. There are still some tiny little bugs here and there that have to be changed but that's to be expected with an early access game. None of them affected the game play whatsoever. The game has permadeath so it's a little unforgiving. Which also gives it it's charm and makes you be extra careful! You're the hero after all! Unfortunately this game doesn't have achievements (yet, *looks at dev*) Which for me personally as an achievement hunter is always a little bit of a shame. But it doesn't take away anything from the game! It's still a super fun playthrough! I love this game and had a blast playing it! If you're interested in my playthrough you can check the VOD over on YouTube: https://youtu.be/QL_XPmgwLwQ?si=g0iE3HNDsNbQO6wr I'd give this game a 7,5/10 It's nostalgic re-branded!
This game is so self aware, riddled with humour, and has an interesting and very classic RPG story style! Like the blessed offspring of Runsecape and Neverwinter Nights - I have had a lot of fun so far, and im only at the end of Chapter 1! The Dev is a team made of ONE MAN, doing everything himself including voicing - and I am really impressed at what one man can achieve when he has a vision. Obviously, updates are still coming out, and things get patched and fixed and added regularly - so some bugs and glitches may occur, but nothing game breaking for me so far which is great. The weapons have fun names and stories added to them, some little jokes in there too which is really refreshing! It plays smoothly and simply, has a forgiving shopping and upgrading curve, and the dungeon delving feels organic -- just remember as the enemies scale up to chug those potions like you are Geralt of Rivia and dehydrated! The Dev is great with taking on feedback too, which is AWESOME for a dev these days, and you can submit feedback at any time in game with F12. I am looking forward to playing through the other chapters, and also to see what comes from this Dev in the future! Supporting this guy is a great decision!
game was fun and simple, the price is very reasonable and especially since the game is in beta a few bugs here and there but nothing game breaking. really cool art style as well can appreciate the environment as well as the mechanics all in all very good and i cant wait till its updated with more levels and content.
I've played through the first town/dungeon area and feel good enough to say I recommend the game. It's a solid action RPG with some light Diablo elements(combat wise). The story is fairly simple, you're a random dude who has more bravery than the rest of the town's knights and sets out to save the kingdom. It comes across as a "I'm just a guy, but someone needs to do something.. Might as well be me," take. And that's pretty refreshing to be honest. Sure, you're also kind've an orc-slaying badass but you're also just a normal dude. The writing is good, though there are some grammar issues here and there. Nothing major. Hard to tell if it is serious, or if it is just the way you and the other villagers/orcs talk. Maybe it's the latter. Music and sound are decent, no complaints there. Graphically the game looks like it consists of the often used Synty Polygon assets that I've seen hundreds of times. I try not to hold that against the developer though, as there's nothing wrong with using art assets. Not everyone is an artist, or can utilize the skills of one. The environmental design, placement of NPCs/bodies/items/enemies, and level design are created in such a way that the game doesn't suffer from the use of said assets. Combat is a mix of ranged and melee. I used melee mostly exclusively because I found it occasionally difficult to get combat to activate when I wanted if clicking on enemies from afar. The melee is pretty much just slashy slash stab stab, and it's not too in depth. It's almost casual in a way. Enemies will drop various loot at a fairly decent pace. You can go back to shop-keepers to sell or buy items. I found the healing in the game to be a bit lackluster, as you will depend very heavily on potions. In my experience I ran into small and medium potions, neither of which really felt like they were enough to keep my health at an acceptable level usually. You will also level up as you kill things, thought I have no idea what amount of experience is required to do so. That's not something displayed in the UI currently. You have your usual stats that you'd expect in an RPG, but it's also missing any sort of meaningful feedback as to what those stats do. I found myself holding on to my skill points until I found gear that required a stat to be a certain level. As that is the only real indicator I had that stats mattered. In any case, I've enjoyed the beginning of Rise of the Village Hero and I look forward to jumping back in when it is a full adventure.
Rise of the Village Hero is a hero fantasy where the player starts with nothing and defeats enemies to level, acquire potions, and obtain gear to save his people from orcs. It seems to be a pretty straightforward hack-and-slash. The movement reminds me of some older games and it gave me a bit of trouble since I'm used to WASD, but I got the hang of it quickly. The character moves using the left mouse button, the camera zooms in and out using the mouse wheel, and turning the camera is controlled with the right mouse button. So, the game is in early access so there are a few things that I can be forgiving about especially since the dev seems to be receptive to feedback and wants to work on the game. I would like to see a map. I'm not sure if I did some things out of order since I completely skipped the area with humans where I could buy armor and potions until after I went to the church. I killed the big orc with horns but he kept standing and was alive again and got stuck in place after I pulled further away from the church. Also, the game seemed to lag for me at times with the combat sound or when I left click to fight it was slow to respond. All this being said I did have fun just going into areas full of orcs and hacking them down. I hope the dev continues to work on the game to polish it up and make it better because I think there is some potential here with a little bit of work. If you want to get an idea of gameplay, check out my gameplay video for the game. https://youtu.be/0ADVFqKo_Gw?si=_rq0W7RnmvYdfPaE
Game definitely has potential though a things I would personally add is a minimap, a pop up that tells the player that they have leveled up and it would probably do some good to make it easier to click the enemies and most of the time where I think I have clicked them my character walks straight past them. fun game tho
I started doing a full Let's Play series of this game and I'm loving it so far. It seems to draw inspiration from games like Diablo, Torchlight, RuneScape and others. It's still in early access so I'm very excited to see how the game develops!! Here's the first of the Let's Play Series I did on this game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfzWOi4I6L0
this game has a lot of potential! i don't think i've personally played a game with mouse mechanics quite like this one. it's really interesting! i think there's a few things that could make the game flow a little better, like maybe larger hitboxes for the enemies so that it's harder to click away from them (you end up walking away when that happens while they're still roasting your onion lmao), but overall the game is pretty fun and the story is interesting!
A solid start for this RPG. It had all the foundational elements: stats, inventory, dialogue, quests. It’s great to see another indie dev publish a game and continue to push out patches and updates. The best addition would be some additional player feedback with both visuals and sounds. I look forward to see how this game progresses.
