Rise Eterna 2, developed by Forever Entertainment S. A., Makee Games, and Ricci Cedric Design and published by Forever Entertainment S. A., is a tactical role-playing game that aims to refine the ideas of its predecessor while leaning heavily into the traditions of classic strategy RPGs. It presents a focused, retro-inspired experience built around grid-based combat, streamlined progression systems, and a war-driven narrative that unfolds across a series of compact, mission-based encounters. Rather than reinventing the genre, it concentrates on accessibility and efficiency, offering a familiar structure that is easy to engage with from the outset. The story follows Jacht, a newly recruited soldier drawn into a larger conflict involving rival factions competing for power within a fractured empire. The narrative embraces well-established genre themes such as political tension, loyalty, and the shifting nature of alliances. While it does not break new narrative ground, it maintains a steady sense of momentum, moving quickly from one event to the next without becoming overly dense or reliant on exposition. Characters serve their roles effectively within the plot, though they are not always explored in great depth, resulting in a story that is functional and engaging but rarely surprising. Gameplay revolves around turn-based battles on grid-based maps, where positioning and careful planning are essential. Each encounter challenges players to consider terrain, unit placement, and enemy behavior, creating a tactical rhythm that rewards thoughtful decision-making. The mechanics are intentionally streamlined, making the game approachable for newcomers to the genre while still offering enough structure to keep battles engaging. Movement and attacks are easy to understand, and the overall flow of combat remains consistent throughout the campaign. One of the more distinctive aspects of the game is its approach to character progression. Instead of relying on traditional leveling systems, it uses skill trees and a gem-based enhancement system to shape each unit’s abilities. This allows for a degree of customization, enabling players to tailor their team according to preferred strategies. While this system introduces flexibility, it can also feel somewhat limited in practice, as the range of meaningful differences between characters is not always as pronounced as it could be. Over time, this can reduce the sense of individuality within the roster. The pacing of the game is one of its strengths. With a relatively concise campaign, it avoids unnecessary padding and maintains a steady progression from one mission to the next. This structure ensures that players are consistently moving forward, with each battle contributing directly to the overall experience. However, the streamlined nature of the game also means that it lacks the depth and variety found in more expansive tactical RPGs. As the campaign progresses, encounters can begin to feel repetitive, particularly due to limited enemy diversity and a consistent gameplay loop. Visually, Rise Eterna 2 adopts a pixel art style that pays homage to classic titles in the genre. Character sprites and portraits are detailed and expressive, capturing a nostalgic aesthetic that aligns well with the game’s design philosophy. Environments are functional and varied enough to support the gameplay, though there are moments where the presentation feels uneven, with some elements appearing more polished than others. Despite this inconsistency, the overall visual identity remains cohesive and appealing. The game’s audio design complements its atmosphere, with a soundtrack that emphasizes the scale and tension of its conflicts. While effective in setting the tone, it can become repetitive over longer play sessions. Interface design, on the other hand, presents some challenges. Navigating menus and accessing certain information can feel less intuitive than expected, which occasionally disrupts the flow of gameplay and highlights areas where refinement would have been beneficial. Ultimately, Rise Eterna 2 is a game that succeeds in delivering a straightforward and accessible tactical RPG experience. It captures the essence of classic strategy games through its mechanics and presentation, offering a focused campaign that is easy to engage with and complete. However, its limited depth, repetitive structure, and lack of innovation prevent it from standing out in a genre filled with more complex and polished titles. For players seeking a streamlined, retro-inspired tactical experience, it provides a solid and enjoyable journey that respects the fundamentals of the genre. While it may not leave a lasting impression or redefine expectations, it fulfills its role as a competent and approachable entry in the world of tactical RPGs. Rating: 7/10
So far, not bad at all. Could use some tech polish though—screen scrolling and mouse controls feel janky, I’m kinda fighting them. Visuals are fine but a bit “quick and dirty.” That said, the story’s got its hooks in me and leaves a strong first impression. Fingers crossed it ramps up instead of fizzles out by the end. Not perfect, but pretty solid.
Rise Eterna 2 is a turn-based RPG is a refreshing reminder of why the genre continues to thrive. With its deep combat system, memorable characters, and well-paced storytelling. Combat feels simplified but it's still fun. The game strikes a perfect balance between strategy and accessibility, making it enjoyable for both veterans and newcomers. Whether you're customizing your party, exploring environments, or unraveling the game's lore, there's always something engaging to do. Anyone can appreciate thoughtful gameplay and a strong narrative.

The best word I have to describe Rise Eterna 2 is unambitious. It doesn’t do anything special nor interesting to make it really stand out from others, and so the result doesn’t feel worth your money or your time. The story didn’t hook me, so I don’t have a good grasp on what’s happening. We’re definitely fighting a lot of bandits and rebels, and for the most part there is one guy telling our main characters where to go and what to do. As far as I can tell, I don’t think the characters actively use their own heads to make decisions. The characters are incredibly bland with no interesting personality about them. The male lead is a very serious person that doesn’t seem to have any interesting qualities about him. The female lead is a bland, spineless girl that follows the male lead wherever he goes. Early on you meet a character whose much more relaxed personality would seem to offer a fun dynamic the way she messes with the male lead, but their dialogue lacks quality banter to make such a good dynamic stand out. Honestly, all the dialogue is lackluster. Everyone reads so stiff and nothing seems like words a person would actually say. Some of your characters can have support conversations in camp, but between the 2-3 I saw it was 2 lines of dialogue with no insight to the characters or who they are. The gameplay is very simplistic without much of any strategic depth. You’re actively encouraged to cluster your units in groups and deathball towards enemies and that’s exclusively the gameplay. Across 9 maps that I completed the objectives were never unique enough to warrant changing that, and I don’t foresee that changing for the remainder. The skill trees for each character are a mish-mash of skills that other characters have so that mixture makes them somewhat unique, but not enough to make them interesting. Gems exist to equip onto characters, but they are purely stat adjustments such as AGI -1/DEF +3. What I’m most upset about is the animations of each character are incredibly bland as well. After seeing the dog, male lead, female lead, and another new recruit run up to an enemy to do an extremely uninspired attack animation I completely lost interest and felt the need to turn animations off so my time with the game would be shorter. There was absolutely a ton of potential here, but the developers opted to play it as safe as possible to seemingly shell out a game for a quick buck. It wasn't even worth the $2 I got it for.
The story is pretty bad, which I can forgive in an SRPG, just know that it's poorly written. I'm playing on the intended difficulty and it's just a no brainer for everything. Just move your units forward and attack. Also there is too much dead time in the game. There doesn't seem to be a way to skip watching the enemy's turn. So even units that are on the other side of the map you have to watch them walk back and forth. And the maps seem to have a few units, then a bunch of open space until the next cluster of units, so you just spend most of the map moving into enemy range and watching the enemy's turn. This sounds kind of nit picky but really there's just nothing this game seems to have going on for it. -Poorly written dialog -Overly simple gameplay / tactics -Too much dead time watching you and the enemy move in each map -The combat projection will show you your anticipated DMG but makes you do the math every time to determine how much the enemy will hit you for None of the issues are huge, but that's all there is to this game; just a bunch on small annoyance with nothing good to keep you playing.
pretty okay game for its price. a few things for future updates or sequel - tactics before game start (placing who on what tile) - expand more on character bonds - ability to see where to farm for crafting materials
"We have Fire Emblem at home TOO." For a buck, it was alright I guess. 5/10
