Great concept, immediately had it's hooks in me. Some lovely art and good music, maybe some audio modulation needed to attacks to prevent ear fatigue. Need some work of course being in early access but I think a flesh of version of this could be incredibly fun and would love to see what the developer can add to the game play loop moving forward. 7 -🥄's
RiftGuard, developed and published by Artur Rezende, is a roguelike survival game that builds its identity around a blend of automated combat and player-driven decision-making. Set in a dark fantasy world overrun by relentless enemy forces, the game challenges players to endure increasingly intense waves while shaping their character through upgrades and resource choices. It’s a design that favors strategy over direct control, creating an experience that feels more about planning and adaptation than mechanical execution. The core gameplay loop revolves around surviving as long as possible while your character automatically attacks nearby enemies. Instead of focusing on aiming or timing attacks, players are tasked with managing movement, positioning, and, most importantly, selecting upgrades that define their build. This shift in focus gives the game a distinct rhythm, where success depends on how well you can anticipate threats and optimize your abilities over time. Each run becomes a balancing act between offense and survivability, as players choose between enhancing damage output, improving defensive options, or investing in utility skills that provide long-term benefits. As the game progresses, the intensity ramps up steadily. Early encounters are manageable, allowing players to experiment with different upgrades, but the difficulty quickly escalates as enemy numbers grow and new behaviors are introduced. The increasing density of threats creates moments of controlled chaos, where positioning becomes critical and even small mistakes can lead to being overwhelmed. This gradual buildup gives each run a satisfying arc, moving from cautious exploration to high-pressure survival. While the enemy variety adds some diversity to encounters, the overall structure remains consistent, with most challenges stemming from scale rather than fundamentally new mechanics. Visually, RiftGuard adopts a pixel-art style that complements its dark fantasy setting. The environments are moody and atmospheric, while character and enemy designs are clear enough to remain readable during hectic sequences. Visual effects become more pronounced as the screen fills with enemies and attacks, helping convey the escalating intensity of each run. Although the presentation is relatively simple, it effectively supports the gameplay by maintaining clarity and reinforcing the game’s tone. The progression system is tied to resources earned during runs, allowing players to unlock and improve abilities over time. This creates a sense of continuity between attempts, where each failure contributes to future success. The upgrade system itself offers a range of options, encouraging experimentation with different builds and strategies. However, the depth of these systems is somewhat limited, and after several runs, the sense of discovery begins to fade as players become familiar with the available choices. One of the more notable aspects of the game is its accessibility. The auto-combat system lowers the barrier to entry, making it easy for players to jump in without needing precise control skills. At the same time, this design choice may not appeal to everyone, as it reduces the level of direct interaction during combat. For players who prefer hands-on action, the experience may feel too passive, with much of the engagement coming from decision-making rather than moment-to-moment gameplay. Despite its limitations, RiftGuard succeeds in delivering a focused and engaging roguelike experience. It captures the appeal of incremental progression and build optimization, offering satisfying gameplay in short sessions while still rewarding strategic thinking. Its simplicity works in its favor, but it also prevents the game from reaching greater depth or long-term variety. Ultimately, RiftGuard is a solid entry in the auto-battler roguelike space, providing a well-balanced mix of accessibility and strategy. It may not offer the complexity or longevity of larger titles in the genre, but it delivers enough engaging moments to make it worthwhile for players who enjoy survival-focused gameplay with a strategic twist. Rating: 7/10
Very fun game! It's in the style of Vampire Survivel but with some really cool changes, I've never seen it done like this way before. I like it a lot and I hope more people find it and play the game.
Simple game, but very fun!
This is one of those games you immediately want to play again as soon as it ends, just to try out a different strategy. The graphics are beautiful, and everything feels like it's being crafted with great care by the developers. Even though it's still in early access and subject to many changes, the game is already in a state that's absolutely worth playing. I truly believe the developers will deliver an excellent final product. As it stands, I’d give it a solid 9/10.
It's an incredibly fun experience that keeps you hooked, always pushing for "just one more run."
I liked the game, I'm looking forward to the next updates that will come
